For the second part of the exchange visit, I went to London with my classmates. I was very happy to meet Sarah and Eric and other students. Going to a Woodpark school was an educational and exciting experience for me.
On the first day, we attended a school meeting. I sat next to a girl named Diana. We soon became best friends. At the meeting, the headmaster told us about the rules of the school. He also told us that the best way to earn respect was to study hard and get high grades.
I had many teachers during the month. Mr. Heywood, my class teacher was very helpful. In our class there were 28 students. We had to move to different classrooms for different classes.
The homework was not as heavy as what I used to get in my old school. However, it was a bit challenging for me, but all my teachers encouraged me and I did well in all my subjects including cooking.
My English improved a lot and I learnt a lot about British culture and history. I practiced using English every day and spent an hour each day reading English books in the library. I usually went to the Computer Club during the lunch break, so I could send e-mails to my family and friends back home for free. Cooking was really fun. At the end of the visit, we had a class party and we had to cook something. I was glad that all my classmates were fond of the dumplings that I made.
I was very lucky to experience this different way of life. And I really hope to go back to study in England one day.

Last Friday afternoon the young man and his friends went to spend the weekend on a wild island. They could swim, fish, play the guitar and sleep in the quiet place at night. They enjoyed themselves there. On the third morning they decided to get back to the land. But their boat hit a rock and soon went down. With the villagers’ help, they swam to the bank.
Luckily none of them was hurt. They took a taxi and half an hour later they arrived at our town, but it was two at night. The young man was hungry and thirsty. He wished to get home as soon as possible. Something was wrong with the lift, so he had to go up the stairs. He stopped by my door and brought out a key. Of course, he could not open the door. Half an hour passed but he failed. He became angry and shouted, “I’ll cut you down with a knife!”
The noise woke me up and I opened the door. I understood at once what was happening and said, “You’re trying to open a wrong door, Paul!” “Sorry, I can’t agree with you, Charlie!” said the young man, “It’s my room. You’ve entered it by mistake!”

A few minutes later, the man returned and spoke to the camera. Because it was windy, the sound was not clear, but the man seemed to be saying the words “lost” and “help me”. The area has no cellphone signal, and the weather was bad that day, with wind, rain and fog.
People watching the video on a website posted words saying the man was in trouble, and the staff (工作人员) at the website then got in touch with the National Park Service. Compared with cars, bicycles have many advantages. First, they are much cheaper than cars. Some Chinese can’t afford cars, but they can afford bicycles. Second, bicycles are small enough to park anywhere, while cars need a larger piece of land to park. What’s more, with lower speed, bicycles are safer than cars.
However, bicycles also bring some problems. Some riders don’t obey the traffic rules and some riders don’t think about others’ safety. So they ride too fast. During rush hours, many bicycles may cause traffic accidents. We should find ways to solve the problem.

Researchers found that people become happier and experience less worry after they reach the age of 50. In fact, they said, by the age of 85, people are happier with their life than they were when they were 18 years old.
The findings came from a survey of more than 340,000 adults in the US. The Gallup Organization questioned them by telephone in 2008. At that time, the people were between the ages of 18 and 85.
The researchers asked questions about emotions like happiness, sadness and worry. They also asked about mental or emotional stress.
Arthur Stone in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at Stony Brook University in New York led the study. His team found that levels of stress were highest among adults between the ages of 22 and 25.
The findings showed that stress levels dropped sharply after people reached their fifties. Happiness was highest among the youngest adults and those in their early seventies. The people least likely to report feeling negative emotions were those in their seventies and eighties.
The study also showed that men and women have similar emotional patterns as they grow older. However, women at all ages reported more sadness, stress and worry than men.
The findings appeared in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Researchers said they didn’t know why happiness increases as people get older. One theory is that, as people grow older, they grow more thankful for what they have and have better control of their emotions. They also spend less time thinking about bad experiences.
Professor Stone said the emotional patterns could be linked to changes in how people see the world, or maybe even changes in brain chemistry.
The researchers also considered possible influences like having young children, being unemployed or being single. But they found that influences like these did not affect the levels of happiness and well-being related to age.
