Our life will be different from now with robots appearing in our home. So what will the future be like? Here are some students’ ideas.
I expect to live in a more beautiful and cleaner city. The street will be cleaned by the robots once a day.
—Ben
There will be more kinds of food to choose from and the food will be more delicious. The robots can make the food for us.
—Karen
We do not have to spend much time on heavy work because robots will take most of our work, for example, washing the clothes. So we will have more vacations. We can take a vacation on the moon. We will not live on the earth but on the moon or other planets.
—Mark
I expect that most families will have their own planes made by their robots. And travel will become more convenient. The plane is faster than any other transportation.
—Sue
I expect robots can make the clothes for us. The clothes could change their size and color by themselves.

The spacesuit is beautiful in black and orange, which will stand out on the moon’s surface. The helmet is much larger than before, providing astronauts with a wider view. There’s also a video camera that can send videos from the moon back to Earth. The shoes of the suit are also better insulated (隔绝) from the moon’s cold temperature.
In the past, the suits were large and heavy. This new suit has been better improved. It has more joints (关节) so that astronauts can bend (弯曲) over, raise their arms and move their fingers more easily. Also, this one has been made with women in mind, with different sizes. Spacewalks on the international space station had to be canceled for women in the past due to unfit suits. The new spacesuits will open chances for more people to explore and do scientific studies on the moon than ever before.

One of the things he discovered was that the Chinese used paper money. In Western countries, people did not use paper money until the 15th century. However, people in China began to use paper money in the 7th century.
A Chinese man called Cai Lun invented paper almost 2000 years ago. He made it from wood. He took the wood from trees and made it into paper. He then put these pieces of paper together and made them into a book.
Now paper still comes from trees. We use a lot of paper every day. If we keep on wasting so much paper, there will not be any trees left on the earth. If there are no trees, there will be no paper.
So how can we save paper? We can use both sides of every piece of paper, especially when we are making notes. We can choose drinks in bottles instead of those in paper packets. We can also use cotton handkerchief(手帕)and not paper ones. When we go shopping, we can use fewer paper bags. If the shop assistant does give us a paper, we can save it and reuse it later.
Everyone can help to save paper. If we all think carefully, we can help protect trees. But we should do it now, before it is too late.

“The Book That Can’t Wait” is written by some new authors(作者). It makes the bonds(联结)between new authors and their readers much stronger.
Books are usually very “patient”. We buy them, and then they wait for us to read. They wait there for days, months, even years. That’s OK for books, but not for new authors. If people don’t read their first book, the authors won’t be able to publish a second one. That’s why Etema Cadencia wants to make different things. Mary’s opinion:
I think it will be a bad thing if people live longer in the future. Firstly, people will live longer, but babies will still be born. There will be more people. So the world will become more crowded. Secondly, if people live longer, they will cost the government (政府) a lot more money. The government pays each old person some money, a pension, to live on because they no longer go to work. If people live longer, the government will have to pay pensions for longer. Lastly, if people live longer, they will get sick and more things will go wrong with them.
Peter’s opinion:
I think it will be a very good thing. Today, lots of people work very hard all their lives. Then they stop working and retire (退休). Often, they do not get time to enjoy their retirement. They get sick and die. Doctors are looking for new ways of keeping people healthy. So people will enjoy their retirement. They won’t get sick all the time. Many people today save money when they are working. They put the money aside for their future. Then, when they retire, they have pensions of their own. In the future, people will do this more. Then the government won’t have to spend more on pensions.

Of course we may still have some of the same problems with cards we now have with money. For example, we lose money from time to time. Maybe we will lose the cards. Maybe someone will take the cards. Someone may even make a card that looks like our cards. Since we can’t buy anything without our cards, the credit cards may be no better than money.
Is there something easier to use than credit cards? Each of us has a thumbprint(拇指指纹). No two thumbprints are the same. Maybe someday the government will keep people’s thumbprints with a number. When you want to buy something, you will put your thumb on a machine or a computer. Each store or business will posses one. Everyone’s thumbprints will be in the computer. It will be difficult to lose our thumbprints! It will be difficult for someone to steal it or to make one like it.

We noticed that Mark was sad. He said, “There is nothing special about me. Well, I am smaller than my elder brother and I am bigger than my younger brother.” I knew he felt that he, was not getting the same attention.
We walked a little farther into the woods when Mark asked me if we could throw rocks into the stream (小溪) to see which one would go to the farthest. I agreed. Then Mark said, “I am going to throw the biggest rock, because I know it will go the farthest.” Mark picked up the largest rock he could find and threw it. Although it made a very big splash(飞溅的水), it didn’t go very far. Mark thought for a minute and said, “I am going to throw a little rock instead.” He picked up a little stone and threw it but it didn’t go very far because it was too little.
I thought this was a very good chance to teach him. I said, “Why don’t you pick up a medium-sized rock and see what happens?”
Mark picked up a medium-sized rock and threw it. Mark said, “Look, the middle-sized rock went the farthest!”
I smiled, “You see, Mark, you are like the middle-sized rock. In this situation the little rock was too light, the big rock was too heavy, but the middle-sized rock was just right. ”

Just ten at the time, Ang clearly remembers her excitement on first seeing the golden-furred little monkey. She named him Ah Boy and they soon became close friends. “I would cycle through the neighborhood and Ah Boy would always follow me, ”recalls Ang. “Neighbors would stop to look and cry, ‘Oh, so cute! ” Ah Boy quickly developed a habit of climbing onto Ang’s shoulders to pull her hair apart in search of anything that shouldn’t have been there.
But as the years passed, the family became unable to care for the monkey, so Ang turned to the Internet for help. After a hard and costly searching, the day arrived for Ang and Ah Boy to say goodbye. It was a tearful parting for her. Later that day, Ang made up her mind to study monkeys. “The time we spent together made me want to know more about monkeys, the threats (威胁) to them, and how we can help,” she says.
After getting a Life Sciences degree (学位), Ang went on to complete a PHD in Biological Anthropology with a specialty in Raffles’ banded langurs (黑脊叶猴), which hadn’t been studied for 15 years.
Today, she spends hours in Singapore’s Central Catchment Nature Reserve, where the whole local population of Raffles’ banded langurs can be found, doing field research in the forest. As a result of Ang’s work and growing support among locals, the community has come to better understand the value of native wildlife. The future of this small population of Raffles’ banded langurs has become a lot more certain.
