Dear Sis,
How are things back home? Everything’s going great here!
Today, I had acupuncture (针灸) for the first time! I woke up this morning with a bad backache, so I called the hotel reception desk and asked if they knew of any nearby hospitals. They gave me a list of some places I could go to, and it included an acupuncture clinic that was right next door, so I decided to have a try.
I was surprised when the clinic staff started putting in needles (针), because I hardly felt anything at first. I thought it would hurt, but in fact I didn’t even know that I had any needles sticking in me. Then I started feeling a warm sensation in my lower back, and I became very relaxed.
I think it must have helped, because my back stopped hurting. Afterwards, I went to a shop next door that sells Chinese herbal medicines. I was amazed because there were huge glass jars full of all kinds of roots, leaves, and plants, and all sorts of things I cannot even describe. Then behind the counters was a large cupboard going all the way up to the ceiling (天花板), full of wooden drawers containing different kinds of ingredients. I didn’t know what to buy, so l ended up buying two boxes of dried ginseng (人参) — one for me, and one as a gift for you. I’ll give it to you when I get back.
Love,
John

“Why not try to make one by ourselves?” said Wan Bo. “You are good at making things and I am interested in painting.”
“Actions speak louder than words,” Tang Qi said. Then, the two young men began to collect some information about it. During those days, watching videos about caring(雕刻) and shaping wood into horse shapes on the Internet became an important part of their life.
Several months later, a wooden rocking horse appeared. They felt so excited that they put the picture of it on the Internet right away. To their surprise, it attracted lots of people’s attention and some even hoped to order one.
The two young men thought it might be a good chance. They sent some forms to the customers to make a survey. According to the result, they made each customer a special rocking horse. These horses were quite different from those produced in other factories, and they soon became popular among the customers.
In the first year of their new hobby, Wan and Tang made thirteen rocking horses. Sometimes, they also repaired rocking horses for people. They made the old ones look new again. Wan and Tang helped those people bring back many happy memories.
Their hobby has now become a successful and busy business.
1. How many rocking horses did they make in the first year of their new hobby?2. What did the forms help Wan and Tang to know about?
3. Do you think it is a good idea to start a business with the hobby like the two young university students? Why or why not?

There was a farmer who lost his watch in his barn(谷仓). It was not an ordinary watch because it had great value to him. After searching in the hay(干草)for a long time, he gave up and asked a group of children who were playing outside the barn to help him look for it. He promised them that whoever found the watch would be rewarded(酬劳).
Hearing this, the children hurried inside the barn and searched the whole place. But none of them could find the watch. Just when the farmer was about to give up, a little boy went up to him and asked to be given another chance.
The farmer looked at him and thought, “Why not? After all, this kid looks sincere enough.” So the farmer sent the little boy back in the barn. After a while, the little boy came out with the watch in his hand! The farmer was happy and surprised. He asked the boy how he succeeded while the rest had failed.
The boy answered, “I did nothing but sit on the ground and listen. In the silence, I heard the ticking of the watch and just looked for it in that direction.” A peaceful mind can think better than a restless mind.
