Some people think only school children do not agree with their parents. However, it is not true.
Communication is a problem for parents and children of all ages. If it’s hard for you to communicate with your parents, don’t worry about it. Here is some advice for you to bridge the generation gap (消除代沟).
Don’t argue (争辩) with your parents. Don’t get to your parents when you are angry. Your parents probably won’t consider your ideas if you are shouting at them. And you can’t express (表达) yourself well if you are angry: Go somewhere to cool off. Make sure you understand why you are unhappy. Then think about what you want to say to your parents. If you don’t think you can speak to them at the moment, try writing a letter.
Try to reach a compromise (和解). Perhaps you and your parents disagree on something. You can keep your disagreement and try your best to accept each other. Michael’s mother didn’t agree with him about buying a motorcycle. They argued over it. But they finally came to a compromise. Michael bought the motorcycle, but only drove it on certain days. It is especially important to show love and respect (尊敬) to them. Showing respect will keep your relationship strong.
Talk about your values. The values of your parents are probably different from those of your own. Tell your parents what you care about, and why. Understanding your values might help them see your purposes in life.
A good relationship with your parents can make you a better and happier person. Have a try!

The Earth is like a huge ball. Like the other seven planets, the Earth is running around the sun. It's the third nearest one to the sun. It takes the Earth about 365 days to run around the sun. At the same time, the Earth is going around itself. If you are in space, you can see lots of white clouds over the surface of the Earth. Through the clouds, you can see the blue colour of the oceans, and the brown colour of the land. About 70% of the Earth is covered with water.
Why do we have day and night? When the half of the Earth is facing the sun, it's daytime. As the Earth turns, and this half is away from the sun, night is coming. And it's daytime for the other half.

We don’t clean the floor, sort (分类) the garbage, cut the meat, chop (剁碎) the vegetables… Yes, we are “grown-up babies” in cradles.
But we cannot stay in the cradles forever. Everybody needs to prepare for real life. If we want to live a better life, we’ll have to learn the practical skills we need in life. I realized that when I went to college.
Without parents around me, my college life was a real mess! I wish my parents or my teachers had taught me all these skills before — they are really so useful! I had to learn to shop, prepare my food, cook meals, clean up and do the washing. Learning these skills changed me greatly and brought me a lot. Now I feel very confident in running a home.
Some people might say we can order food online. In fact, good life skills will make us better students, better workers, better family members and happier in our life. Making a meal needs good planning, skillful chopping, control of temperature and a good nose! It makes us smarter!
It’s time for us to break the cradle. A coming change may help us a lot — schools in China will teach life skills as a subject. If we don’t have practical life skills, our education will be incomplete. Let’s start now. One day, others will wonder why they have no clean socks, and why we can cook a delicious meal but they cannot!

Years later, during her final illness, Mother kept different things for my sister and brother. “But the desk,” she said again, “ is for Elizabeth.”
I never saw her angry, never saw her cry. I knew she loved me; she showed in action. But as a young girl, I wanted to have heart-to-heart talks between mother and daughter. They never happened. And a gulf opened between us. I was “too emotional(易动感情的)”. But she lived “on the surface(表面)”.
As years passed and I had my own family. I loved my mother and thanked her for our happy family. I wrote to her in careful words and asked her to let me know in any way she chose that she did forgive me.
My hope turned to disappointment, then little interest and, finally, peace — it seemed that nothing happened. I couldn’t be sure that the letter had even got to Mother. I only knew that I had written it, and I could stop trying to make her into someone she was not.
But the present of her desk told me, as she’d never been able to, that she was pleased that writing was my chosen work. I cleaned the desk carefully and found some papers inside — a photo of my father and a one-page letter, folded(折叠) and refolded many times. It was my letter.
“In any way you choose, Mother, you always chose the act that speaks louder than words.”

Bibi Tooren, 11
Schools should give kids days off for mental health, because mental health is an important part of health. If you don’t feel well, it will have a big impact (巨大影响) on your ability to focus(注意力). Kids get stressed with long school days. Plus, kids don’t have much experience dealing with mental health crises(危机).
Hailey Young, 12
The weekend was created to give us time off, and children need to learn to better manage our time. We hardly get our schoolwork done in the five schooldays we get. Plus, schools would need students to make up mental health days. They would probably do so during our real breaks: in summer vacation or winter vacation. Another thing is that, for some kids, school might be safe.
Johnny Gabel, 9
I don’t think schools should give students days off for their mental health. Having too many days off can have a bad influence on grades. And many students' parents have to go to work. If students get too many days off, they might get left home too much. This could make some students’ mental health problems worse.

Everyone knows that the earth is in danger. Some people think there is nothing we can do about this but that’s just not true. If we all do a few small things every day, we can make a real difference.
Use less electricity (电).
Get moving. Use public transport (公共交通工具), walk or ride bikes to get to school or meet friends. Many car journeys are under three kilometers long.
Recycle (回收利用). Try to recycle things like glass, paper and plastic.

C.It’s short and doesn’t need to drive a car. |
D.When you finish watching TV, turn it off. |
E.You can organize the recycling at home and wash glass and plastic bottles. |
Find the light You should either be wearing a light or running in a bright area. Think about the main streets. Most of them have many streetlights along the way and a sidewalk for you to run on. |
Be careful Always expect the worst of the drivers on the road. If they are going to turn into your path suddenly or don’t stop when they should, you should act in an emergency (紧急情况). |
Dress to stand out You might love dark clothes, but do not wear them while you are running at night. Buy a reflective vest (反光背心) so that you can stand out in the headlights of coming cars. |
Tell a friend Running at night can be dangerous. You should never leave the house without telling someone (a family member or friend) where you are going. |
Turn off your music You might enjoy exercising with your music on, but that is not such a good idea at night. Since you already can’t see very well, you really shouldn’t stop yourself from hearing well. |
Don’t go somewhere new Most runners usually run in different routes (路线) so that they will not be bored easily. At night, however, you’d better just find one or two very safe areas and run again and again. |
