【推荐1】Liza is in the eighth grade. She loves drawing and especially (尤其) loves drawing with words. She likes to make words into birds, butterflies, trees, and so on. Her pictures looks very beautiful and interesting. Sometimes she takes the pictures home to her parents, and sometimes her head teacher puts them up in the classroom.

One day, Liza’s art teacher, Mr. Smith, walked into the classroom and saw Liza’s pictures. He was very surprised at her creative ideas. He thought Liza’s pictures were a great way to remember spellings of words and that she could do well in a spelling competition. After class, he told his idea to Liza’s head teacher, Mrs. Green. She thought it was a wonderful idea and decided to talk about the competition with Liza.

Later that day, Mrs. Green asked Liza if she could talk with her. Liza was worried and asked Mrs. Green if she did anything wrong (错误的) . Mrs. Green said, “Don’t worry. I just want you to join in the spelling competition.”

Liza felt so happy. She thought it was an honor (荣幸) for her because only the ninth graders could join in the competition. Liza was much happier when she heard that Mr. Smith would help her with her art. She couldn’t wait to join in the spelling competition.

【推荐2】One day a poor farmer was taking a bag of rice to the town. Suddenly the bag fell from his horse on the road. He didn’t know what to do about it because it was too heavy for him to lift (举起) by himself. He only hoped that somebody would soon pass by and help him.

Just at this moment a man riding a horse came up to him. But the farmer was very disappointed (失望的) when he saw who he was. It was the great man living nearby. The farmer had hoped to ask another farmer or a poor man like him for help.

But to his surprise, the great man got off his horse as soon as he came nearer. He said to the farmer, “I see you need help, friend. How good it is that I’m here just at the right time.” Then he took one end of the bag, the farmer took the other. They together lifted and put it on the horse.

“Sir,” asked the farmer, “how can I pay you?”

“It’s quite easy,” the great man answered with a smile, “Wherever (无论在哪里) you see anyone in trouble, do the same for him.”

【推荐3】One day an 11-year-old girl asked her dad. “What are you going to get me for my 15th birthday?” The father replied, “Don’t worry about that, We still have plenty of time.”

But on a day after her 14th birthday, she passed out (昏倒) and was rushed to the hospital. The family found that the girl had a serious heart disease and that she might die. At night, she asked her dad, “Daddy, have they told you that I am going to die?” The father replied, “No, you will live as long as anyone else.” She wondered and asked, “How can you be sure?” He smiled to her and said, “I just know it?”

After the girl turned 15, She had a heart transplant (心脏移植手术). After she came back from the hospital, she found a letter on her bed. It said, “My dearest daughter, one day you asked me what I would give you for your 15th birthday. I wasn’t sure then. But now you know that my present to you is my heart.” The father had given his heart to his daughter.

Parents are selfless (无私的). They even make great sacrifices to make their children grow up happily. Keep this in mind when you feel angry toward your parents. Always, they’re just doing what they think best for you.

【推荐3】The pirates (海盗) did not return. After lunch, the doctor took his pistol (手枪) and sword. He put the map in his pocket and left. He wanted to find Ben Gunn.

It was very bat and unpleasant inside the fort. I had a plan and I needed to leave the foal. I took two pistols and left quickly when Gray and the square were with the captain.

First I ran down to the white rocks and looked for Ben Gunn’s boat. I soon found it under bushes. It was a simple boat, made out of branches and goat skins, and it was very light to carry.

I decided to wait until it was dark and row to the Hispaniola. I wanted to cut the ship adrift (漂流), leaving it to float with the currents (洋流). As I waited, I could see the pirates fire burning, and out on the watch the lights on the ship.

As soon as it was dark, I got into the boat and rowed out to the Hispaniola. I found the rope that connected the ship to the anchor (锚) and cut through it with my knife until the ship was free. As I did this, I could hear the angry voices of Israel Hands and another mutineer (叛变者) in a cabin above me.

The ship began to move away in the night air. By then I was so tired that I fell asleep and dreamed of home and the admirel Benbow.

When I awoke, I found myself at the south-west end of Treasure Island. I was only about 300 metres from the shore. When I lay quietly in the bottom of the boat, it moved perfectly over the watch.

But as soon as I sat up, the boat went out of control. So I lay down, and used the paddle from that position. I moved slowly closer to the land, but the current was strong and the boat moved past the bay (海湾).

I moved slowly to the next bay, and suddenly I saw the Hispaniola in front of me. The wind and the currents were moving the ship. I couldn’t see anyone on it. As soon as I was close enough, I held a rope and climbed on board. Just in time, as my little boat hit against the side of the ship and it sank under the water. I climbed to safety on the deck, realizing that my only way of escaping—my little boat—was lost.
