Can you imagine a cloud floating in the middle of your room? Do you want to know what it feels like to fly like a bird? Here, we have picked out four interesting inventions to share with you.
Talking Gloves
Four foreign students have created a pair of gloves, and it helps people to communicate with people who have hearing and speaking problems. The gloves are equipped with sensors (传感器). They recognize sign language and translate it into text on a smartphone. Then the smartphone changes the text to spoken words. Thus you can understand sign language easily.
Google Glasses
Google Glasses are like a computer built into a pair of glasses. Then the glasses allow you to surf the Internet and make calls without even lifting a finger. The glasses also have a camera and GPS mapping system. Users can take and share photos, check maps and surf the Internet just by looking up, down, left and right.
Indoor Clouds
That’s a real world. An artist, Smilde managed to create a small but perfect white cloud in the middle of a room using a fog machine. But it required careful planning — the temperature, humidity (湿度) and lighting all had to be just right. The cloud only lasted for a short while, though.
Wingsuits
The suit realizes your dream of flying like a bird. Well, not exactly flying, but gliding (滑翔) through the air. It increases the surface area of the human body, which makes it easier for people to float in the air. Fliers wearing wingsuits can glide one kilometer in about 30 seconds.

Though the air over the earth becomes hot, the air over the water stays cool. The hot air over the earth goes up, then the cool air over the water moves in and takes the place of the hot air. When you are near a lake or an ocean, you feel the cool air when it moves in. You feel the wind and the wind makes you cool.
Of course, scientists cannot answer all of our questions. If we ask “Why is the ocean full of salt?” Scientists will say that the salt comes from rocks. When a rock gets very hot or very cool, it cracks (崩裂), and the rain falls into the cracks. The rain then carries the salt into the earth and the rivers. The rivers carry the salt into the ocean. But then we ask “What happens to the salt in the ocean? The ocean does not get saltier every year.” Scientists are not sure about the answer to the question.
We know a lot about our world. But there are still many answers that we do not have, and we are curious.
根据短文内容,判断下列句子的正(A)或误(B)。

Students at Orefield Middle School in Pennsylvania, US, held the race early last month. They spent several weeks making their cars. The race was part of the school’s STEMM class. STEMM stands for science, technology, engineering, math and medicine.
The rules of the race were strict. The only non-food items allowed were toothpicks and popsicle sticks (冰棒棍). Some students used round bread or cookies for wheels. Some used a steak roll for the body.
For some students, the most difficult part was not making the car, but trying not to eat the tasty food. “If you ate any of it, you got out,” James Cipolla, 13, told The Morning Call.
Cipolla worked with three other students on their car. They put a marshmallow (棉花糖) at the base of their car to help it move easily. But it melted during the race and didn’t make it to the finals.
“We still had fun anyway,” said 14-year-old Andrew Maitski. “We learned about engineering and the basic parts of a car.”

Fashion brand JUMA recently showed its newest collection at a workshop in Shanghai. Eighteen clothing items from the collection, including jumpsuits, jackets, shirts and dresses, were made from recycled plastic bottles.
“We realized that billions of water bottles were being thrown into landfills and oceans every year and that these bottles take hundreds of years to decompose (分解). We thought we should use them to create our clothes and help improve the environment,” said Alia Juma, the company’s designer director.
Many other fashion companies are finding similar ways to save our planet these days. The process is rather simple. First, the plastic bottles are washed and cut into small pieces. Then they are melted and shaped into small balls. The balls are melted again to form thread (线). People can then use the thread to make different kinds of clothes.
According to Juma, it takes 67 ,000 bottles to create I ton of thread. This reduces carbon emissions (碳排放) by 4.2 tons and water use by 6.2 tons compared with the normal way of making thread.
“Four bottles can make one pillowcase (枕套). Five can make a shirt,10 dresses, and 20 a short coat,” Juma said. Some people might have doubts (疑问) about wearing something made out of plastic bottles. But according to Causeartist, a website that focuses on innovation (创新), clothes made from plastics could even be better than nylon and polyester (聚酯纤维). Plastic thread can be made into different textures (织物), such as cotton, silk, or even wool. It seems that this innovation may lead to a greener future of fashion.

Since I make the soup often, I know the recipe(配方) well and it tastes the same every time. But there was one time when I didn’t have one of the most important ingredients. I decided to just make the soup without that ingredient anyway. I thought one ingredient wouldn’t make a big difference.
When I tasted it later, it still tasted all right — I could eat it, but it wasn’t quite the same. I was sure that it would have been better if I followed the recipe exactly.
It is the same in our lives. When you work in groups at school or later in life at work, you can think of each member of the group as being an ingredient in the soup. If each “ingredient” isn’t there, or isn’t doing their job well, the “soup” won’t turn out right. Remember the story of the soup the next time you have to work in a group with your classmates.
