In fact, such a tradition was from Europe. People believed that evil spirits (幽灵) would hurt people on their birthdays. So friends and family would come and be with the birthday person and bring good thoughts and wishes just to protect (保护) him or her. Giving gifts showed that there was no place for evil in the person’s life.
However, the way of celebrating birthday is different from country to country. In Canada, people put butter on the children’s face. They believe it will make the road too difficult for evil to come. In Panama (巴拿马), they usually hold birthday parties of over 100 people. Can you imagine the number of presents? In Ukraine (乌克兰), there’s a tradition of pulls on the earlobe (耳垂). They get one “pull” for they get one year older and then another one for good luck. Also in Ukraine there’s a great tradition to take a treat to school for their classmates and all teachers.
All of these birthday traditions may be different, but the ideas are the same. They bring good luck to the birthday person. How do you celebrate your birthday?

Riding a Mobike on the street, you might hear some people speaking Chinese aloud. Turning to the right, you might see a Sichuan-style restaurant. After walking into a store, you might see that Huawei smartphones are on sale. But you’re not in China—you’re in Manchester in Britain. In fact, you might see similar things in many other cities. Chinese products(产品)have been going all over the world.
Chinese food became popular in Western countries hundreds of years ago. To meet local people’s tastes, Chinese restaurants make some changes to the dishes. “One example is the meat.” said Yin Hang, a Chinese student who is studying in Australia. “We like to eat meat with the bone in, but people here don’t. So the local Chinese restaurants provide big pieces of meat without bones, even for fish. “
Some Chinese brands(品牌)are also becoming more popular. It is reported that in many cities in Europe, many stores sell TCL televisions, Haier fridges and Lenovo computers. More than half of US-owned drones(无人机)are Chinese models, according to China Daily. They’re not only made in China, but also designed and developed in the country.
In the past, most Western people thought Chinese products were cheap and not so good. But now, things have changed greatly. More people trust Chinese brands. “Made in China” becomes cool. “They are beautiful and offer something special that American phones don’t have,” an article on CNN once said about Chinese smartphones.
As it is said, Chinese government has been trying its best to improve its national brands of all kinds to meet the needs of modern life.

Make smarter flight choices
Air travel is not an environmentally-friendly way to travel because it uses a lot of energy. If you must fly, be sure to pack light to cut down the plane’s load(负担). And try to book a non-stop flight. Connecting flights usually require longer periods of flying and planes will use more energy.
Respect natural environment
Marked hiking trails(有指示标识的游览步道) are there usually to protect the natural environment and keep wild plants safe. In beach areas, don’t use products that are harmful to the sea water and try to protect the ocean’s ecosystem.
Support locals directly
Buying handmade products and art pieces created by local people can help hand down cultural tradition and create jobs. Food that is grown locally and things that are sold by local families are often better and cheaper, all helping keep money in local pockets.
Find ways to give back
Consider the ways that you can help the local community and give back while traveling. This can be as simple as picking up litter in a park or volunteering to clean up a beach. If you’re planning a trip where volunteering is your main goal, make sure you won’t take jobs away from local people.
