Many Chinese students raise money to help people in need. Most of the time, they hold a box and ask for donations on the street or in the park. Or they sell things like old books and CDs. Those students have done a great job so far. The money helps the students in poor areas like Yunnan and Gansu with new clothes, pens and pencils.
Teenagers in the US make donations, too. But they raise money in a different way—they raise money by doing something for others. For example, they sell homemade food or play musical concerts in their neighborhood to raise money.
“Chinese students like to wait for people to donate, or sell things that they buy with their parents’ money,” says Guo Daoshun, an expert(专家).“While US kids get donations and give people something useful in return.”
He says Chinese teenagers should learn to raise money in the US kids’ ways. “That way, they can show their talents and practice communication. More importantly, they can learn every coin counts(有价值). They have to work hard to get a donation.”

Being a UPS driver, the holidays are always crazy, and I'm always exhausted by the end of the day, losing my own mood. But on the 24th last year, I went to make my last delivery. When I carried a package up to the home's doorstep, I found a poster next to a box covered in Christmas paper.
The poster read: For our delivery person…Santa loves you!In crooked letters that looked like a child's writing. I peered into the box, and it was filled with Christmas cookies, all hand-decorated. I glanced over, and through the curtains at the front window, a little girl with a toothy smile gave me a happy wave. My insides melted as I waved back mouthing, "________!"—two words that couldn't possibly sum up what her thoughtfulness meant to me.
On the way home, I put on my Santa hat, nibbled on the cookies and sang along with the carols on the radio, feeling the true magic of this wonderful time of year!

When small turns out to be big
A couple of weeks before Christmas, I loaded up my car with donations and took them to the thrift store(旧货店). After I returned, I noticed a brand-new pair of fuzzy pink slippers had been left behind.
The store was nearly 30 minutes away and I didn't plan on going back anytime soon, so I threw them in my closet. Besides, they were extra small. So tiny that I doubted any adult women could wear that size.
The next day, I went to the grocery store and noticed an Angel Tree in the lobby with gifts underneath to go to a homeless shelter. One of the paper angels had fallen off, so I went to pick it up and took a moment to read the wish. It was from a woman who was asking for a warm pair of slippers-size extra small. Pink is my favorite colour, she'd written. With great joy, I went home, wrapped up the slippers and went back to the store. As I placed the package under the Angel Tree, a store clerk smiled and thanked me.
"Actually, I'm the thankful one." I thought. Sometimes the unexpected things in life turn into the best gifts of all!

I lost my childhood to Harry Potter.
---Tom Felton
After nearly ten years, the Harry Potter bandwagon (热潮) is going to end. And for the young stars who have spent half their lives filming the movie, the pain of saying goodbye could not be greater. But there are several things Tom Felton---also known as Harry's school nemesis (复仇者)
Draco Malfoy --- is looking forward to. And from the moment you see him, it is clear why.
"For the past ten years we haven't had much free time to do other things. I certainly haven't had much free time to keep my own hair color, or lie in the sun, or do anything with only a little danger like skiing. It was nice to go on holiday and not have to make up on the SPF50 and sit under an umbrella with three caps on," Tom said.
For all the fame and wealth that Harry Potter has brought its young stars, there have been plenty of downsides, too.
Tom is now 23 but talks like he is ten years older, and his co-stars have been working since they were young children. And while he says he has no regrets about being in the movies, he also says that at the same time he had to grow up fast.
"One thing that people keep on saying to me is that the wealth and the fame must have made up fax missing out on my childhood," he says. "But the idea of money ---putting a price on your childhood--- is ridiculous (可笑的). You will never get those years back. Don't you think you can put a price on them?"
"And to me, fame is not a positive thing. The idea of being famous is a lot better than the reality."
The youngest of four brothers brought up in a middle-class home in Epsom, Surrey, he honestly says that no one in the family knew what to do with all the money he was making. His mother invested some of it in property (不动产) but told him the rest was his to do with what he wanted.

The weather was very good in Atlantis, and therefore people could grow food all year around. Many different kinds of vegetables, fruits and nuts grew there, and a lot of different animals lived on the island, including elephants.
Atlantis was the home of Poseidon, the Greek God of the Sea. Poseidon had ten sons, who became the first rulers of Atlantis.
