Many of us spent our childhoods dreaming of becoming astronauts. However, the reality is that only a few will make it. But does that mean you’ll never get the chance to work in space? Not necessarily.
In fact, some of the space jobs are not only for astronauts and they all sound just cool.
One of the most interesting space jobs is chief sniffer, NASA has already had a sniffer(嗅探员)named George Aldrich, whose job is to smell materials before they are used in spaceships.
Using your nose at work might sound a little strange, but the job is actually important. A spaceship is of small size and high temperature, which makes smells inside stronger. And once a spaceship is sent, astronauts “have no ways to run away from” unpleasant smells, Aldrich told The Telegraph. More importantly, smelling objects can help find dangerous things that could do harm to astronauts’ health.
Another job, the “space tour guide”, may seem a little ahead of its time-after all, there aren’t any tourists there. But now, many companies are starting to provide space trips and some rich space lovers such as Justin Bieber and Sarah Brightman have ordered the tours. It may not be long before space becomes one of the top travel destinations(目的地).
Being a space tour guide requires rich knowledge to help passengers get the most out of their journey. Space tour guides also need to be excellent storytellers so that passengers can experience the true beauty of the space travel.
Astronauts often spend longtime in space with the same group of people, which is why a space psychologist(心理学家)is also needed to help astronauts overcome bad feelings. “We’re crossing the boundaries between science fiction and reality,” said Rohit Talwar, director of the US company Fast Future Research. “Things we’ve seen in movies are now becoming reality!”

Houseplants(室内盆栽): Care and Tips
Many people enjoy having plants inside their homes. Houseplants can make you relax and they can also make the air clean. But sometimes houseplants need a little help. If they are not well, houseplants will let you know. They no longer stand strong or tall. The color of the leaves will change. And there will be little or no growth.
Plants send messages by the way they look. If they don’t get enough light, the leaves will turn brown and they will grow slowly. Leaves with the wrong colors can also mean other problems. These include insects problems, the bad light conditions or temperatures.
Pruning: Plant haircuts
If you want the houseplants to become strong, you can give them a plant “haircut.” In the gardening world, cutting plants is called “pruning.” pruning is a good way to start new plants.
Do you want a houseplant that needs less care than others?
Succulents(多肉)are great. Because succulents can go without water for long periods of time. They grow slowly, so they don’t need to be pruned a lot. And you don’t need to change new flower pots a lot.
Houseplants diet
When you give houseplants water and fertilizers(肥料), please pay attention to the time. Houseplants should not be fertilized(施肥)during winter when days are short. You can fertilize them in late winter as days get longer and plants wake up. Because Houseplants will need fertilizer to help them grow well during spring. Watering plants too much is a leading cause of losing houseplants.
Check to see if your plants are too big in the bottom of the pot. That means you should give the plant a new, larger flower pot. But be sure the flower pots have holes in the bottoms so that water can get out.

Just like us, trees change a lot as they grow. At one to three years old, young trees learn how to protect themselves. For example, many trees grow thorns to warn animals not to go near.
When trees are four years old they begin to grow very quickly and become strong enough to face challenges later in life. At the age of 15, trees become young adults. They grow more slowly and begin to produce flowers and fruit.
The tree doesn’t become a real adult until it is 20 to 25 years old. The tree reaches its largest size. Not only does the adult tree give us shade , oxygen and natural beauty, it is also a great place for a tree house, or a place for us to read a book, listen to music or drink tea. If the adult tree receives proper care, it may continue to live healthily for over 100 years.
Gradually, trees begin to grow older and older and even die. At this time, they still have their important place in nature. Even though a tree becomes hollow or part of it becomes dead, it can provide a home for small animals.
In many ways, the life of a tree is similar to our own life experience. When looking at the life of a tree, we learn that each period of life brings its own form of joy. Enjoy every minute of it and take care of the trees!

In August, it is very hot and wet in the southern part of the United States. People there have heart trouble and other kinds of health problems during this month. In the Northeast and the Middle West, it is very hot at some times and very cold at other times. People in these states have more heart trouble after the weather changes in February or March.
The weather can also influence intelligence. For example, in a 1983 report by scientists, the IQ of a group of students was very high when a very strong wind came, but after the strong wind, their IQ was10% lower. Students in many schools of the United States often do worse in exams in the hot months of the year (July and August).
Weather also has a strong influence on people’s feelings. Winter may be a bad time for thin people. They usually feel cold during these months. They might feel unhappy during cold weather. But fat people may have a hard time in hot summer.
Are you feeling sad, tired, forgetful or unhappy today? It may be because of the weather.

We’ve talked about snails (蜗牛) and their slow move. But much of the time snails don’t move at all. They’re in their shells—sleeping.
Hot sun will dry out a snail’s body. So at the least sign (迹象) of hot sun, a snail draws its body into its shell and closes the opening with a thin cover. Then it goes to sleep. A snail will die in a heavy rain. So whenever it rains, it goes to sleep. A snail can sleep for as long as it needs to. It can take a short sleep. Or it can sleep for days at a time. And it spends all the winter months in its shell, asleep.
In Spring the snail wakes up. Its body, about three inches long, comes out from the shell. When hungry, the snail looks for food. It can’t see very well. Its eyes, at the ends of the top feelers (触角), are very weak. But its sense of smell is very strong. So its little mouth goes to work.
A snail’s mouth is no bigger than the point of a pin (针). Yet it has 256,000 teeth! The teeth are so small that you can’t see them. But they do their work. If you put a snail in a hard paper box, it will eat its way out! And if a snail wears out (磨坏) its teeth, it will grow new ones.
Mostly, a snail looks for food at night. It can go on eating for hours and never feel full.

As the lecture began at 3:40 pm, Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping and Ye Guangfu greeted students, teachers and other participants. They then showed viewers how they lived and worked inside the space station. The astronauts invited young viewers to do similar experiments (实验) along with them to watch the differences between space and the earth environments and experience fun. Before the end of the 60-minute event, the astronauts answered questions from some students.
Groups of invited students in Beijing, Nanning in Guangxi, Wenchuan in Sichuan, Hong Kong and Macao attended the lecture and took part in video chats with the astronauts. It was the first lecture from the Tiangong space station to popularize space science. According to the China Manned Space Agency, more lectures will be given by Chinese astronauts in the future. The purposes of such activities are to spread knowledge about manned spaceflights and encourage the public, especially young people, to learn more about science.
The Shenzhou-13 was sent into space on October 16 from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwestern China’s Gobi Desert, with the astronauts soon entering the Tiangong space station. They were expected to spend six months working in the station, making it China’s longest manned space mission (任务).
The agency said, “As a national space-based laboratory, Tiangong is helpful in spreading science and technology knowledge.”
