Li Shizhen was one of the most famous doctors in Chinese history. He was born in Qichun, Hubei in 1518.
Both of Li Shizhen’s father and grandfather were doctors. Li Shizhen’s grandfather was a country doctor who travelled in the countryside with a bag of herbs (药草) and medications and cured (治愈) people. His father was a doctor who wrote several books.
Li Shizhen used to help his father in his medical practice when he was young. Li Shizhen’s father wanted him to enter politics (从政). Li Shizhen studied for the exams and passed the country-level examination, but he was never able to pass the imperial (帝国的) examination.
When he was 38, he cured the son of the Prince of Chu and was invited to be an official in that court (宫廷). A few years later, he became an official at the Imperial Medical Institute.
Even though he fulfilled his father’s dream, he didn’t want to continue working for the court. One year later, he left the court and returned to be a doctor again. Li Shizhen was famous for his book Compendium of Materia Medica (《本草纲目》). He spent 27 years writing the book. Unluckily, Li Shizhen died before the book was officially published. “Mom, have you worked out next week’s housework? Let Jim and me choose the cards. I can’t wait. It’s fun!” When Robert shouted out, his mother had already put all the cards on their big table. On the cards, there are some words like these, “sweep the floor, clean your bedroom, help mom cook, wash vegetables, make the bed,” and many others. Jim and Robert each choose two cards every day from Monday to Friday. Then they hang them on the weekday task board. Jim likes to clean, so he picked up the card “clean the bathroom”. Robert loves to make the bed, so he picked up his favorite card. Soon the two boys were happy to take away all the cards.
To make the children do housework, their mother thought hard and came up with this idea. Of course, the parents do the housework on weekends and leave Jim and Robert two free days.

What makes real family members? Whoever we are, our family members are the most important in our lives. Family members support each other in many ways besides money or helping around the house. On the one hand, we can share our hopes, dreams or problems when we communicate with them. On the other hand, we can get a strong feeling of satisfaction and confidence with their help.
How to build good family relationships needs a lot of effort. Firstly, everyone in the family needs to get along well with each other and shouldn’t have conflicts (冲突). Secondly, family members should share thoughts and feelings while eating meals, traveling or working together. Thirdly, we should talk with each other about our worries and then solve them together because family members can encourage one another to set goals and achieve dreams. He asked his students to send their homework through a QR code(二维码). “We spent an hour or two in class learning how to make the codes, and finally everything gets easier,” said Mr. Li. “When students finish the homework, they keep it on Wechat. Then, each student makes his own QR code and sends it to me. So I can check their homework everywhere using my computer or telephone.”
Students can send their QR codes to Mr. Li by e-mail, QQ and Wechat. When Mr. Li scans(扫描) his students’ QR codes, he can check their homework on his phone. He finds that their homework becomes more creative(有创造力的), with many pictures, music and even videos.
Mr. Li’s students like the new way and think it is interesting. “We are living in the information age. Many students like to work with computers. It makes learning more fun.” said Zhang Ming, a student of Mr. Li.
“The paper is not easy to keep, but the code is easy to keep and share.” Mr. Li said, “It is great to try new ways in education(教育). Education itself is a kind of creation. I don’t want my students to fall behind the times.”
However, some parents are worried. They are afraid that their children will spend too much time on computers or telephones and communicating(交流)with friends online. But in fact, there is no need to worry about that. Students still need to look up information in books and write it down when they do their homework. They only use the code when they send their work, and it doesn’t take them too much time. Also for teachers, it allows them to check the students’ work at any time.
