文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文。主要介绍了张宝新(音译)发明环保防晒霜的故事。
【推荐1】阅读下面短文,根据短文内容回答问题。

Sunscreen (防晒霜) protects our skin from sunburn. But did you know that it is harmful to coral (珊瑚) living in the ocean?

Some chemicals in sunscreen, such as benzophenone (二苯甲酮), can kill coral. Every year, about 4,000 to 6,000 tons of sunscreen flows into coral areas, according to the US National Park Service.

About four years ago, Zhang Baoxin, who studied at Guangdong Experimental High School, read about this and decided to make an environmentally friendly sunscreen to protect the marine (海洋的) environment.

Zhang read lots of things about it and then put forward a new formula (配方). She mixed natural plant oils with safe and commonly used sunscreen ingredients. She tested about 10 kinds of plant oils and after trying about 20 formulas, Zhang found a jojoba oil formula that is effective, cheap and easy to make.

Zhang wrote a paper to explain her findings. The project made Zhang a nominee (候选人) of the Stockholm Junior Water Prize, an award to celebrate teenagers who help solve major water challenges. She was the only nominee from the Chinese mainland in 2020.

“With my formula, anyone can make sunscreen at home. You just need a blender to mix the oil and the powder,” she said. She wants to study environmental science in college. “I hope to use my knowledge to make a better world.” she said.

Every summer he worked in a fish factory to help pay for college. Often he worked from four o'clock in the morning until midnight. He slept in a room with 100 other men.

Enjoying a swim at their local beach was once a daily pleasure for Melati and her sister. But in 2013, when Melati was 12, and Isabel just 10, the sisters started to lose their love for swimming in the waters near their home on the island. When they walked back to shore, red and white plastic shopping bags would stick to their legs and bodies.

Melati didn’t think much about it until later in 2013, when her teacher gave a lesson on world heroes. Each of the heroes made a positive change to the world.

One night, the sisters talked about ways to fix the plastic pollution. Their parents agreed with the girls’ ideas. Soon, they gathered a team of 15, made up of school friends and students from other schools. They named their group “Bye Bye Plastic Bags (BBPB)”. Its task was simple: stop local people from using plastic bags.

The following year, the BBPB team spent their lunchtimes having meetings and organizing activities to stop plastic bags. Within 24 hours, more than 6000 people, both local and people from around the world, had signed up.

Melati and Isabel’s effort has made big changes. In 2017, they organized the first beach clean-up. Around 12,000 people collected 36 tons of rubbish across 55 locations. It became the biggest clean-up ever on the island and is now an event every year. In 2018, the government helped to stop single-use plastic bags. The law took effect in July 2019. Then, in 2020 the government promised to reduce plastic waste in the sea by 70 percent by 2025.

Today, BBPB is a global youth movement and has more than 50 teams in 29 countries. Their teams are given a set of tools for starters and a handbook prepared by Melati and Isabel. It explains how to organize teams, events and how to better understand the plastic situation in their own community.
