On Dec. 25, 2022, the cartoon film Soul was on in Chinese mainland theatres. Disney and Pixar gave fans a musical enjoyment as a gift.

Soul tells the story of a middle school music teacher Joe, who has wanted nothing more than to be a musician. One day, he gets the chance to make a change in the school music club. But before he can get a big break, an accident takes his life, causing his soul(灵魂) to be sent to the Great Beyond. Joe succeeds in running to the Great Before—a fantastic place. Here Gardner meets a soul, 22, who he tries to make believe the beauty of living.

Few of us really understand that a father’s love is like a mountain(山). But in the US movie I Am Sam, I see this kind of love and understand.

Sam Dawson has a 7-year-old daughter, her name is Lucy. Sam has mental disability(智力障碍), he is not like the other adults(成年人). Sam just gets the intelligence(智力) of 7-year-old kids, so people think he cannot look after Lucy and send her away to another family and they can take care of Lucy better.

Sam finds many part-time jobs. He works very hard and he can come closer to see Lucy. One night, Lucy goes to Sam’s house. She tells him that she wants to stay with him and doesn’t want to go back, but Sam takes her back to her new family’s home, because Sam thinks it is good for Lucy and he can also look after her in other ways. Finally Sam’s act wins Lucy’s heart. Everyone is moved(感动)after watching this film .

This movie tells us what fathers’ love is. Sam knows how to love. He always tries his best to take care of Lucy and he will do it all the way.

Three years ago, Bing Dwen Dwen became the mascot (吉祥物) for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. The design comes from 5,816 works from 38 countries and areas. Cao Xue, the chief designer of Bing Dwen Dwen, said the idea first came from the traditional Chinese snack bingtanghulu. But a simple snack couldn’t stand for (代表) a country by itself. Cao’s team tried many animals and plants and finally decided on a panda.

However there were already too many cartoon images of pandas. Cao first decided that it should be a baby panda instead of an adult one, so its body is as long as its head.

Cao’s team looked all over the world to collect all the panda designs they could find. They wanted to make sure their panda looked special. They visited the panda nature reserve in Wolong, Sichuan, to get ideas. They found that baby pandas are pigeon-toed (内八字) and often lean in while standing.

The helmet (头盔) made of ice makes the mascot in fashion. It looks like a spaceman. Bing Dwen Dwen waves its left hand to say hello. There are two red hearts in the hand, showing it’s kindness and love. A group of lines with different colours around its head look like the tracks (赛道) on an ice rink. They also stand for fast 5G signals.

Now the panda in a nice shell is made into all kinds of souvenirs (纪念品), like toys and models, as well as printed on notebooks, badges (徽章) and bags. People of all ages like them very much. “Design is like dancing with chains. I’m glad we performed (表演) a good dance.” Cao said.

In autumn, the wild geese migrate (迁移) to a warmer place. They fly in a V formation (队形). Why do they fly like this? Here is the story of the migrating wild geese. If they fly in a V formation, the whole group will increase the flight efficiency by 71% compared with just one bird flying alone.

They share the same direction and work as a team so that they can get to the destination (目的地) more quickly and easily. When a wild goose leaves the formation, it will feel the resistance (阻力) of the air and the difficulties of flying alone. Then, it quickly comes back to the formation to be protected by the group’s power in front of it. If the leader wild goose gets tired of flying, it will go to the end of the V formation while another one takes the lead. This is how they share the leadership and have respect for everyone in the team. The wild geese flying at the back of a V formation quack (嘎嘎叫) to encourage the ones in the front so that they keep the same speed. The progress is greater by encouraging each other. If a goose gets sick, it must leave the formation, and other wild geese leave the formation too. They fly with it to help it out and protect it, or they stay with it until it dies or it is able to fly again. They just make another V formation. So they stay beside each other in times of difficulties and great challenges.
