The Shenzhou XIII heroes entered the Tiangong space station on Oct 16, 2021, started their six-month journey inside the station in the country’s longest spaceflight (太空飞行).
The three heroes Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping and Ye Guangfu — floated (漂浮) into the station and began their works. Wang is the only woman of the three.
Their Shenzhou XIII spaceship was lifted by a Long March (长征) 2F rocket (火箭) at 12:23 am at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center (卫星发射中心), in northwestern China’s Desert.
During their flight, the astronauts have many tasks, such as having three spacewalks to fix a small robot arm , testing the robot arm and checking the machines inside the station; One of the astronauts will teach the Chinese students a science lesson by television.
Shenzhou XIII is the fourth spacecraft to visit the Tiangong station
The flight is expected to become the longest spaceflight by China. It will also see the first spacewalk by a Chinese woman.
Mother of a 5-year-old girl, Wang is China’s second woman astronaut to take part in a spaceflight. She took part in the Shenzhou X mission in June 2013. Cook food from the fridge
Start with the fresh food. If you have some food in the fridge, use it first. Make a meal with what you have instead of running out to the supermarket for something else.
Learn to read the labels(标签)
“Best-before” and “ use-by” dates are more important. Learn to know the different periods of foods and know how to cook them in a proper way. For example, black bananas are proper for baking, fresh vegetables are good in soups, and bread that is not fresh can be turned into small pieces.
Use the freezer(冷冻室)
The freezer can keep foods fresh until you are ready to cook them, and store the cooked foods until you’re ready to eat them. It’s also the best place for the remaining food. Mark the date of the foods nearby, so it’s easy to find the foods you need to eat first and you will never leave them there for too long
Shop with a list
Make a list before shopping so that you know exactly what to buy. Doing this helps reduce food waste because it’s possible to buy too much of a certain food and then forget to eat or cook it later.

“When it comes to the Earth, there is no time to waste.” says the Earth Day Network.
And that is right. Protecting our environment is very important, and World Earth Day was created in 1970 to ask more people to protect our environment. On April 22, people around the world celebrate Earth Day.
Every year there is a special topic, and this year it is “Trees for the Earth”, so Earth Day this year will be all about planting trees. They are planning to plant 7.8 billion trees within the next five years.
That’s a big goal, and you might wonder why trees are so important. Because they can take in carbon dioxide (CO2) and protect the air quality (质量). CO2 is a chemical in our atmosphere, but humans make too much of it. Each person makes about 2.3 tons a year, which is bad for the environment.
Well guess what! Planting new trees is important because people cut down a huge number of trees. Last year, there were 3 trillion trees in the world, about 139 billion in China. But according to China Daily, the world’s total number has been almost cut in half since human civilization (文明) began. That’s because 15 billion trees are cut down every year.
So we need to plant more to make up for (弥补) the ones we lost. One tree can take in 21.8 kilograms of CO2 per year. And it’s still one of the cheapest and best ways to get rid of CO2.
But don’t forget that we can also help the environment by cutting down on how much energy (能源) or water we use every day. Every little thing helps.

1. When do people around the world celebrate World Earth Day?【推荐1】On May 11, heavy hail(冰雹)came down to an Australian beach. It turned the beach into a sea of white.
It made for an unusual sight and got us wondering, “what causes hail?”
Hail is a type of water in the atmosphere(大气). A piece of hail is called a hailstone. A hailstone begins as a small water drop or a round snowflake in a cloud. The drop grows by collecting many cloud drops. When it is down by a strong wind inside the cloud, the little drop meets with some very cold water drops. These supercooled (过冷的) drops are still liquid water, even though the temperature is below freezing. When the little drop and these very cold drops merge(融化), the little drop has now become a hailstone.
The little hailstone is thrown up inside the cloud, still collecting other cold drops. The hailstone gets bigger and bigger until it goes to the top of the cloud. Then, because there is no more wind, it falls back down through the cloud. While it is falling, it can hit the earth at a speed of up to 144 kilometers per hour. So it is very dangerous to people, animals, buildings and many other things on the ground.
In Australia, hail can occur(发生)at any time of the year. But large hail often happens during spring and early summer.
1. When did the hail mentioned in paragraph 1 happen in Australia?2. What helps the little water drop meet with some extremely cold water drops?
3. Are the supercooled drops liquid water or solid water?
4. What does the little hailstone collect while it is thrown up inside the cloud?
5. If hailstones fall down at the speed of 144 kph, are they very dangerous? Why?

You might not pay attention to it, but in your everyday life, you use cotton everywhere. When you wake up in the morning, you sleep on bed sheets (床单) made of cotton. You take a shower and when you dry yourself, you probably use a towel made of cotton. You put on your clothes, which probably have at least some cotton in them.
Cotton has many advantages that make it an excellent clothing material. On hot days, cotton clothing feels cool. On cold days, cotton clothing keeps you warm.
Cotton fabric is made from the cotton plant, a small plant that’s easy to grow. The seeds (种子) of the cotton plant are surrounded by fluffy (绒毛般的) white fibers (纤维) for protection. These fibers are collected and made into cloth, which can then be made into many products.
The cotton seeds are not wasted, either. They are put in a machine that presses the oil out of them. This oil is a valuable product for cooking and is used in many kinds of food. The mush (碎屑) that’s left is used to feed animals, such as pigs and cows.
Nothing is wasted. That’s why cotton is a very useful plant. Even more importantly, cotton is a natural product. It doesn’t require a lot of energy to produce, and it can be renewed every year simply by planting a new crop.
