Nanotechnology is a new type of science that will be widely used in many fields. Do you want to know more about it?

Imagine: A television screen has the size and thickness of a piece of paper. You carry it around in your pocket and take it out when you want to watch a show. (1) A guitar is so tiny that you can’t see it with human eyes, but you can hear sounds when its strings are pulled.

(2) Nanotechnology is the science, and this kind of science can deal with things in a very small way. It is being studied and developed all over the world. Many scientists say nanotechnology will produce the next industrial revolution(工业革命).

(3) 也许纳米技术对医学将有最大的影响。 Imagine nanobots in medicine. Thousands or even millions of tiny machines can be sent into the human body with specific tasks. For example, (4) they can be designed to find and destroy cancer cells or viruses(病毒). Other machines may stay in the human body forever to help organs(器官) that are not working properly.

When could all of these happen? Scientists predict that most of these are possible in the next 30 years. Thousands of scientists around the world are working on these micro-machines. Nanotechnology is just around the corner.

On October 11th in 2020, three new asymptomatic (无症状的) cases of COVID—19 were reported in Qingdao. The government held a meeting: Large-scale- nucleic acid testing (核酸检测) and thorough screening of possible infected (感染的) persons should be carried out.

In order to quickly and orderly complete the detection (探测) of all the citizens, more than 20,000 volunteers have been arranged to five urban areas to participate in the test. The volunteers are mainly public security officers, government workers, community workers and the public. Because of the large amount of nucleic acid testing of all persons, the “10 in 1 mixed sampling detection technology” (混合采样检测技术) was accepted in the detection work, which can be used in large-scale screening, and its biggest advantage is to improve efficiency.

1,038,785 nucleic acid samples were collected in Qingdao, and 312,977 samples were detected. As of 18:00 on October 16th, Qingdao had completed nucleic acid testing of all the people of 10,899,145, and the results were all safe.

On October 14th, a reporter was surprised to introduce the situation in Qingdao, saying that Qingdao completed more than million samples of nucleic acid testing within three days, but this has not affected the normal life of local people. The supremacy (至上) of people and life is not an empty slogan (口号), but a strong and solid action, which is soaked (渗透) in vivid details and has fulfilled the promise to the people.

1. What part of a newspaper can we find this passage in?
2. What does the underlined word “efficiency” mean in Chinese?
3. What is the second paragraph mainly about?
4. How long did the nucleic acid testing of all the people in Qingdao last?
5. Why was the reporter surprised?

If you wear the glasses, you will be able to shoot videos or pictures and others can watch shows on the Internet.

Google glasses are like a clever friend. You can talk to them through voice activation (语音激活) if you get lost. Three years ago, there were only a few volunteers wearing Google glasses. Google was testing on them before they were officially released (发布) at the end of 2013. A lot of the volunteers complained the glasses made them look silly. You could buy Google glasses in the market for about $1, 500 by the end of 2015.
