All around the world, we hear stories of terrible weather becoming even worse. For example, while forests in Australia are on fire, fields in Egypt are covered in snow. Environmental scientists explain that events such as these are due to climate (气候) change. They say that if we can’t protect the environment from pollution, we will surely destroy the Earth. However, there are still many people say that scientists have lied to us and there is no such thing as climate change. This passage will look at both sides of the argument to see who is telling the truth.

First of all, it is necessary to remember that scientific opinion has changed many times. For example, in the 1950s, the temperature in many countries seemed to be rising. Some of the world’s best scientists said that the world was becoming hotter. However, in the early 1970s the world began to freeze. As a result, scientists made new predictions: the world was not becoming hotter, but much colder. After the freezing winters of the 1970s, world temperature began to rise again in the 1980s and 1990s. Scientists changed their predictions again and decided that the world was now becoming too hot.

Some people have said that these examples show that climate change is not real. And it’s true that scientists have made mistakes. However, I don’t believe this means that they are wrong about climate change. It’s very difficult to make predictions about the future of weather. Although scientific predictions can sometimes be wrong, it does not mean that climate change is not real.

In conclusion, environmental scientists have not invented climate change. They have made mistakes but the important point is not whether the world is becoming hotter or colder but that climate is becoming worse. We have a chance to stop climate from changing and take action.

A.forest fire and snows have changed the world’s climate

3. According to passage, which is the writer’s opinion?

文章大意:本文主要介绍了害羞这种现象,并分析了害羞的原因以及解决方法。

【推荐2】How do you feel when you have to make a speech (演讲) in front of class? What about when you go to a birthday party? Do you get really shy (害羞的)?

Shyness means feeling nervous or frightened when you’re around other people. Experts (专家) have found that more than 80% middle school students feel afraid to be the centre of attention (注意). Some kids are born shy. Some become shy later because of their life experiences.

It’s OK if it takes you a while to feel yourself again when you go to a new place or meet new people. In fact, everybody gets a little shy sometimes. It’s just a case of how much.

Most people have red faces and talk in broken sentences when they get shy. But some become so shy that they won’t go to a restaurant because they are too nervous to order and pay the bill. Some are afraid to meet new people, so they seldom (很少,不常) go outside. This kind of shyness can be bad for a person.

If shyness doesn’t stop you from doing anything you want to do, being shy isn’t a very big problem. Some experts say shy people are quieter and cleverer because they think more and talk less. Shy people are also good at working with others because they think more for other people. Some great people in history were shy, too.

You see, being shy isn’t all bad. But remember not to let good chances pass by just because of it! If you have to sing a song at a birthday party or practice your spoken English in front of others, just do it! There’s nothing to be afraid of.

文章大意:本文介绍了如何处理和认识数学焦虑症。

【推荐3】Do you get nervous thinking about a coming math test? If yes, you are far from alone. Math worries have become a common emotion among students around the world. Students in countries with higher levels of math worry are likely to achieve lower math grades, according to a study published by the National Academy of Sciences on Feb. 15.

Math worries cause fear, physical suffering and behavior problems among young pupils, according to a University of Cambridge study. In ordinary life, many people experience some degree of discomfort when faced with a math problem, ranging from light worries to strong fears.

Some people also experience physical symptoms (症状) such as sweaty palms (掌心出汗) or a racing heart. They may then try to avoid every situation including numbers, meaning they are held back from choosing jobs related to this subject, such as science, technology or engineering.

However, the fact is that those with math worries aren’t always to be bad at math. “If a child has math worries, it doesn’t mean that they’re not good at math. They may have had a really bad experience with math and there are ways to improve math achievement.” Daniel Ansari, the senior author.

Also, there are ways to manage your stress related to math. If you’re feeling stressed before a math exam, it may help to spend a few minutes exploring those feelings before the exam begins. “It’s about making sure you’re knowing your feelings correctly,” Sian Beilock, a scientist in the US told the BBC. “Just because you have a fast heartbeat and sweaty palms, that does not necessarily mean you will fail.”

A little math worry could be taken as a positive challenge to overcome. Just like many people get stage fear before delivering a speech, this nervous energy can help to motivate, according to Ian Lyons.

Math doesn’t come easy, no matter how clever you are. Leonardo da Vinci, the famous Italian artist, was a huge fan of mathematics. But his notebooks show that Da Vinci couldn’t do fractions (分数). He could never understand, for example, dividing a number by one-quarter is the same as multiplying (乘) by four, resulting in a higher number than the original.

1. What is not the physical symptom of math worriers?
A.Sweaty palms.B.A racing heart.C.Strong fear.
2. The people who have math worries may choose to be ________.
A.a scientistB.an engineerC.an artist
3. Who dealt with the worry in a better way?
A.Jack pretended to be ill and told her mother he can do better next time.B.Jessy comfort herself by taking a deep breath and tried her best to keep calm.C.Lily cried out before the test and said to herself she is just not so good at math.
4. What can we know from Leonardo da Vinci?
A.He suggests facing the math worries wisely.B.Doing fractions is a piece of cake for him.C.He thinks himself clever enough to solve the math problems.
5. Which of the following could be the best title of the article?
A.Worries by NumbersB.How to Be a Good LearnerC.The Problems in Learning
