Three Taiwanese fishermen were saved yesterday from a small island in the South Pacific. The men had disappeared for more than three months.
They had left Taiwan in a small fishing boat and had planned a week-long trip. On their fifth day, however, they met a typhoon, and it badly broke the boats.
Luckily, none of the men was hurt. After the typhoon had passed, they discovered that the engine (发动机) wouldn’t start, so their boat just drifted (漂流) at sea for over a month. During this time, the fishmen caught fish to eat and drank rain water to stay alive.
Finally, the boat drifted toward a small island. When it got close enough, the men jumped out and swam to the island. On the island, they found fresh fruit and vegetables, and they continued to catch fish to eat.
The fishmen had lived on the island for two months when a passing ship saved them. Although the three men had lost a lot of weight, they were still in good health. Their family were surprised and happy when they returned.

I was waiting for the bus at the bus stop. When the bus came, I got on the bus and sat on the window side. The bus started to move. After about five minutes, the bus stopped to wait for the signal (信号灯). I looked outside and saw an old man crossing the road. There were not many people on the road. A boy was riding a motorbike very fast from my side. It seemed that he did not see the signal. When the boy took notice of the old man, he tried to slow down his motorbike but there was no time. He collided with the old man very badly. The old man was thrown far away. The boy also fell down. His head hit the road but it was saved because of his helmet (头盔). Both of them lay in the pool of blood. Many people gathered (聚集) around them and gave their ideas. I got afraid because I saw the whole accident. Then a woman stopped and called the ambulance (救护车). It came quickly and rushed them to the hospital.
The next day I read the newspaper. The old man died in the ambulance but the boy was saved in time. This was the most terrible accident I ever saw in my life.

On the night of December31, 2014, a holiday celebration turned into a terrible tragedy. “Overcrowding(过度拥挤) and the failure of the police to contro1 the crowds were the main reasons it happened,” the authorities(官方) said.
For the last three years, light shows on the Bund have been successfully held for New Year's Eve celebrations, but this year the light show was canceled and there were fewer police on hand. But the crowds came anyway. About 300,000 people were on the Bund by 8:30 that evening and more kept arriving until people suddenly became noisy and angry around 11:30. Some people fell on the stairs and were stepped heavily on and died.
In shanghai, the authorities have reacted(作出反应) to the Bund tragedy by canceling big events. But this isn't really necessary. Better planning and better crowd control can make sure the celebrations are safe.
However, if you’re going to a place where there will be a big crowd, you should take notice of where the exits(出口)are, and if there are too many people, move away from the center of the crowd. And most importantly, if the crowd seems too big and makes you feel uncomfortable, Just leave. No celebration is worth losing your life over.

“You look very serious this morning, Gary,” said his Mum.
“I was thinking about how to get into the Crossbridge Football Academy(学院),” said Gary.
“But it is too late now.” said Mum.
“No, I can take the test again in six weeks, but if I pass, I will have to pay. It says so on the form.” said Gary.
“Let me have a look,” said Dad. His dad examined the form. He frowned(皱眉)when he looked at the cost.
“What do you think?” He said passing the form to Gary’s mum.
“Well,” said his mum, “we can afford to pay some of the cost, but not all of it. We could pay half. You could pay the other half. You could get a job, but what about the test? Do you think you can pass it?”
Gary thought for a moment “No problem, Mum,” he said, “I’ll pass the test and I’ll get a job. I am sure I can enter the Crossbridge Football Academy. You’ll see!”
In his room, Gary opened his Maths book and stared at the page in front of him. He closed his Maths book and opened his English book. He read a few pages, then he closed his book. He sighed(叹气). He knew he didn`t do well in them. He wondered ________.
Crossbridge Football Academy was a large modern school, built on the edge of town. There was a huge football field, a swimming pool and a coffee shop in it. Matt, Joe and Karen sat in the coffee shop there at the end of their first day at the Crossbridge Football Academy. The cafeteria was full of young people laughing and chattering.
“I think they are enjoying themselves,” said Matt.
“Well, I didn’t enjoy myself,” said Joe.
“Neither did I,” said Matt. “Something is missing.”
“Gary is missing,” said Joe.
“It’s not the same without him,” said Karen.
“Oh, your poor children,” said a voice. Rick was standing by their table. “You are all alone and your friend is far away. Gary isn’t coming here. He is so stupid. Just forget him.” Rick walked away with these words.
“We need to do something for Gary,” said Karen.
“I have got a plan,” said Matt.

Jackie, 14 Sofia, my mum, is probably the most amazing person I know. She’s also brave. She’s such a positive person, always seeing the good in other people. “Life is for living,” she tells me. |
Oliver, 17 The greatest person I know is my uncle Jack. He and my aunt Alice had a wonderful life. Unluckily, my aunt had a terrible car accident. It left her in a wheelchair. 【推荐3】I have worked as a keeper at the National Zoo for 11 years. Spot and Stripe are the first tiger cubs that have ever been born here. Globally, a third of Sumatran cubs in zoos don’t make it to adulthood, so I decided to give them round-the-clock care at home.
I’ve got two children—the younger one, Kynan, was extremely happy about the tigers’ arriving—but all of us really looked forward to being part of their lives and watching them grow. I wasn’t worried about bringing them into my home with my wife and kids. These were cubs. They weighed about 2.5kg and were so small that there was absolutely no risk.
As they grew more mobile, we let them move freely around the house during the day, but when we were asleep we had to contain them in a large room, otherwise they’d get up to mischief. We’d come down in the morning to find they’d turned the room upside down, and left it looking like a zoo.
Things quickly got very challenging due to the huge amount of energy required to look after them. There were some tough times and I just felt extremely tired. I was grateful that my family were there to help. We had to have a bit of a production line going, making up “tiger milk”, washing baby bottles, and cleaning the floors.
When Spot and Stripe were four months old, they were learning how to open doors and jump fences, and ★ . It was hard for us to finally part with them. For the first few days, Kynan was always a bit disappointed that the cubs weren’t there.
I’m not sad about it. I’m hands-on with them every day at the zoo, and I do look back very happily on the time that we had them.
