With no hands or feet, Kyle Maynard could make lots of excuses（借口）for doing nothing. But that’s not how he lives his life. Instead of letting physical differences decide what he can and can’t do. Kyle sets his mind to what he will do. No excuses.

Kyle was born on March 24, 1986 in the USA. Although he came into the world with no hands or feet, his parents didn’t love him less. When he was about three years old, his parents made a big decision. They knew by doing everything for him, they were actually holding him back. So they pushed their son to learn how to take care of himself. With lots of practice, Kyle learned to feed himself, stand on his own, walk, etc.

Like many other schoolboys, Kyle dreamed of becoming a great sportsman. It seemed like an impossible dream, but he didn’t give up. He joined the football team, he trained in weightlifting and he went to wrestling competitions. His world completely changed when he got into sports. He grew confident and felt hopeful about the future.

Later, Kyle took up mountain climbing. On January 15, 2012, he reached the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, crawling（爬）all 19, 340 feet in just ten days. It is the tallest mountain in Africa.

Kyle has never stopped pushing himself. He now is not only an athlete, but also a writer and a successful businessman. “Sometimes you can’t see any light at the end of the tunnel（随道）, but you have to keep fighting. Work hard. No excuses. Then you will find success,”said   Kyle.

Michael Bates is the former junior home minister (前任初级内政部长) of Britain. He says that he isn’t a person who enjoys going to places on foot. But now he is walking to different countries. And in the past six years, Bates has visited 23 countries on foot in his spare time. Up to now, he has walked thousands of kilometers!

What makes Bates keep walking to different countries? His answer is much easier than you can imagine. He walks for peace so that understanding between countries can improve greatly. He hopes people all over the world will know that it’s everyone’s duty to keep world peace.

Bates wrote a book named Walk for Peace about his 71-day journey from Beijing to Hangzhou in 2015. The walk was to celebrate the 70th anniversary (周年纪念) of the end of World War II and to give special attention to the UK-China Year of Cultural Exchange.

In Bates’s book, he writes about his own ideas of cultural differences between China and his home country. And the kindness of local people, his experiences in different cities and beautiful sites of the countryside are also included in it. His book has come out in China. It is partly in English and partly in Chinese. President Xi Jinping, during the speech in Britain, highly praised Bates for trying to keep world peace through his walking.

After that, I lived on the street. Some of the older boys were thieves(小偷). They ordered me to steal. If I refused, they would beat me. One time, I was caught and I went to prison for six months.

When I came out, I lived on the street again. I was the youngest kid in the group of serious thieves. One day, my head was hurt. My friends took me to a hospital by Child Workers in Nepal. There, for the first time, I found adults who cared about me. That happened when I was 11 years old. If it wasn’t for that accident, I would probably be a big thief by now.
