I still remember my first ballet (芭蕾) class.
One day, my parents took me to see a ballet show when I was 6 years old. It was amazing. Then I wanted to learn ballet.
When I first went into the ballet class. I saw some girls wearing pink skirts and cute shoes. They danced so beautifully. However, I knew that, like any other dance, behind all the beauty, there was much hard work.
After I started to learn ballet, I found it hard for me to dance well because I had fat legs and short arms. What’s more, I couldn’t stand straight after I put on my ballet shoes. I was disappointed and didn’t want to dance anymore.
Luckily, I met Miss Yang, an excellent teacher. She encouraged (鼓励) me to be more hard-working than others and helped me a lot. My parents also told me that I could do it. So I didn’t give up and worked hard for two years, Finally, I could dance very well.
Now I still love dancing ballet and I am good at it. I learned that if I am not good enough, I need to work harder.

But now you’d better thank your parents for their time and money spent on your musical training. A recent study suggests music lessons can make children have better memories than their peers (同龄人).
The Canadian study showed that after one year of musical training, children did better on a memory test than those who didn’t take music lessons. The researchers made the children age between 4 and 6 into two groups—one group of children took music lessons outside school, and the other didn’t take any musical training. In one year, they took four tests in different times. The results showed brain development changes at least every four months. The children taking music lessons not only did better in musical listening but also made faster progress in other ways, such as reading, writing, math and IQ.

Sunny loved climbing trees with her caterpillar friends May and June, but what she loved most was to tell stories. Her stories were so interesting that both of her friends liked them very much.
Sunny and her friends dreamed of the day when they would turn into beautiful butterflies. Sunny believed her wings would have rainbow colours.
Finally, the day came. Sunny came out of her chrysalis (蛹). She was very excited. She flew quickly down to a river, looking into the water.
“No.” she shouted loudly. She couldn’t believe her eyes. On her back were two wings as black as night. This wasn’t what she had thought at all. “How I wish I could be a caterpillar again.” Just at that time, May and June came over.
“Wow, what big wings you have.” May said.
“You look like the midnight sky,” said June. “We missed your stories. Tell us one, please!”
“Yes, tell us one.” May added.

I grew up in the countryside of Poland (波兰). It’s an area where skiing is popular, but my family was poor. I couldn’t afford to ride the ski lift (运送滑雪者的吊椅), so I used to hike up with the skis on my back. It turned out that this was good practice.
K2 (乔戈里峰) is nicknamed “savage (野蛮的) mountain”. You hear sad stories: For every four people who reach the top of the mountain, one dies. I was too afraid to even think about skiing down it. Even the best mountain climbers thought it impossible.
But that changed after a training expedition (考察) to Broad Peak. I got a clear look at K2’s massive face, and it encouraged me. Over time, my skills improved and, by 2017, I didn’t feel the fear anymore. I began preparations.
Why try such a feat (壮举)? I love nature, and I love setting goals. To be the first to do it just adds to the challenge. Fear is an important part of life, but to ski down K2, I had to stop being afraid.
At the base camp, I felt calm and prepared. There were no moods or doubts — I just knew I could do it. But there were challenges. At the third base camp, 7,000 meters up, my safety guy suffered serious back pain. We waited for 36 hours after he got better, and I decided to continue. In total, it took about three days to reach the top.
For many climbers, getting to the top of K2 would be the defining (决定性) moment of their lives. For me, it was where the real challenge began. Skiing down a mountain requires patience and endurance (耐力).
The most dangerous part was the Messner Traverse. It’s pure ice, up to a 75-degree angle in places, with drops on either side. You need to keep your turns and movements smooth and confident. No one had tried it before, so it was a relief (解脱) to cross it.
In total, going down the mountain took about seven hours. When I finally skied into camp, I simply lay in the snow, tired in both mental and body.
I’m so proud of what I achieved. No one thought it could be done. It taught me the value of patience and that nobody else can make your dreams come true.

I was playing Sir Toby Belch, a very funny old knight (骑士). I had to remember a lot of sentences and very funny old words. I worked hard in order to act well, like a real knight from the old days. But the most difficult job was to be funny in all my acting. This is quite different from the way I am in real life.
“OK. It’s time to be a different me now,” I said to myself. At first, I couldn’t do anything naturally. I didn’t know what to do when acting in this silly way. But I always told myself that I was Sir Toby now and I should forget who I really was. Even when I was in the bath, I was thinking about Sir Toby’s words and actions and trying to do everything like Sir Toby did.
The competition day finally came. When it was my turn to perform, I took a deep breath and began my part. I tried hard to make my words clear enough to be understood and my actions funny enough to make everybody laugh. When the results were finally read out, I immediately knew we had won first prize. I made it.
From this experience, I’ve come to know that I can be a different person. It doesn’t mean I`ve changed my personality, but I can do something I had never imagined possible.
