What Would You Do is a TV program on American ABC. The program which is hosted by the news reporter John Quinones is popular with many people. It tests what people will do when they see someone is in trouble so as to tell us to stand up for the people in need. Here is last week’s program.
In a cake shop, two actors acted as a blind woman named Pamela and a man clerk(职员) who looked down upon the blind. Hidden cameras were recording what would happen. The blind woman came into the shop and bought a box of twelve cupcakes. The clerk treated the woman badly at first. Then he cheated(欺骗) her when he gave her the change. He only gave her 6 dollars instead of 34 dollars.
Would someone be brave enough to stand up for the blind woman? Yes! A customer in the cake shop stopped the clerk from cheating the blind and treating her badly. And other customers joined in soon. John appeared in the end and interviewed the first customer who helped Pamela out. My name is Ann. I worked as a volunteer in 2022 because I wanted to do something to help others. I called some charity shops(慈善商店) to ask if they needed volunteers. Although I didn’t mind where I volunteered, I was glad that one of the Sue Ryder charity shops said yes. Sue Ryder was a charity very close to my heart because volunteers from Sue Ryder once cared for my dad in the hospital.
Volunteering in the shop helped me know what shop work was like and I was surprised to find how much I really enjoyed doing it. I also found how important the public were. Lots of people gave us things they didn’t need for the shops to sell. In this way Sue Ryder raised money to care for people with serious illness. I always left the charity shop late because I knew how important the work of Sue Ryder was.
Another thing I enjoyed about volunteering was talking with other volunteers in the shop. They were friendly and helpful. I really improved my teamwork skills by volunteering.

Children from Liqun Primary School in Meizhou, Guangdong, recently had a chance to ask Yang Liwei who is China’s first astronaut questions.
First, Yang Liwei talked about his own childhood (童年).When he was a little boy, he showed great interest in Chinese traditional stories. “I even wanted to meet Chang’e on the moon,” he smiled. In Grade 3, after a visit to the science museum, he decided that he wanted to become an astronaut to travel in space. It shows that sometimes childhood dreams do come true.

For his young fans from Guangdong, Yang Liwei had a message: Their dreams today, even at such a young age, could someday come true.

Have you ever visited the Forbidden City? It is the world’s largest palace and has over 17 million visitors every year. But if we traveled back to the past, we probably wouldn’t be allowed inside.
In the past, all buildings in Beijing were low except the Forbidden City. From outside, ordinary(普通的)people could only imagine what it looked like inside.
The Forbidden City takes up 720,000 square meters in the heart of Beijing. It was built from 1406 to 1420 by the third emperor of the Ming Dynasty, the Yongle Emperor. After that, it was the living and working place of 14 emperors of the Ming Dynasty and 10 emperors of the Qing Dynasty.
During those times, the Forbidden City was where the country’s supreme power(最高权力)could be found. Emperors were born, lived, fought and died there. It saw the highs and lows of the Ming and Qing dynasties, and it plays a very important part in Chinese history.
The cultural relics(遗物)and documents(文件)in the palace show how the royal families lived. They are still used today for historical research, as well as inspiration for literature(文学)and entertainment(娱乐).
In 1987, the Forbidden City was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. For world leaders who visit China, it has become a must-see. In 2017, when US President Donald Trump paid a state visit to China, President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan welcomed Trump and his wife there.

Kevin Michael Connolly began to love skiing when he was a child. He has skied and won medals in skiing competitions since 1999, and he has traveled all over the world taking photos. He’s also written a book about his life—and it has been very successful. But the most unbelievable thing about Kevin is that he doesn’t have legs. Kevin hasn’t had a terrible accident or been in a disaster. He was born without legs.
Kevin’s parents helped him to overcome the condition by raising him like any other child. He learned to “walk” using his hands, and he went to school with the other children from his neighborhood. Kevin grew up in Montana. Most Montana kids learn to ski, and Kevin did, too. He used special equipment, and he became a very good skier. He also hiked and camped in the mountains a lot.
After he finished high school, he studied Film and Photograph at Montana State University. Later, Kevin returned to his university to give a speech to welcome new students. Now he has his own TV show called Arm & Ready. On the show, Kevin travels to different places and faces different challenges. People love the show because they feel inspired when they see the world through Kevin’s eyes. Kevin’s excellent journey will change the way they look at others, and the way they see themselves.
