You might notice that some foods are named after places—for example, pu’er tea and Nanjing salted duck. These are the “birthplaces” of these foods. In fact, a product’s birthplace is very important. It’s about the quality. An agreement between China and European Union(EU)has taken effect. It lists the names of products and their birthplaces. They are called geographical indications(GIs, 地理标志).

Which products can get GIs?

Farm products, food, wine, handcrafts, and industrial products can get GIs. On the first GI list, there are food, farm products, wine and tea. On the next list, there will be some Chinese cultural products, such as Shu brocade(蜀绣)and Xuan paper.

How many products are on the GI list?

Two hundred products from China and EU countries are on the list. Over the next four years, another list will come out. It will include 350 GIs.

How will the agreement help us?

It is good for both shoppers and companies. People can buy high-quality products based on the GIs. They don’t have to worry if they are fake(假货). Companies can sell more products to other countries. 文章大意:本文主要讲述了菠萝中含有的酶能够分解蛋白质,从而“吃掉”人体细胞的过程。

【推荐2】When you eat a pineapple, the pineapple eats you? Now, don’t be afraid. This question is not about a pineapple monster that eats people. In fact, the common pineapple sold in supermarkets can “eat” a little bit of you.

When you eat something, your stomach breaks down its large molecules(分子)into smaller ones. In the same way, pineapples can “eat” you by breaking down the molecules.

Pineapples have certain enzymes that can break down proteins(蛋白质). To understand this better, you can imagine a pearl necklace. Many smaller molecules—the pearls—come together to form the long necklace of a protein. You can cut a necklace with a pair of scissors. In the same way, the enzymes in pineapples “cut up” proteins.

Proteins are an important part of the cells(细胞)in your body. If an enzyme can break down a protein, it has the ability to damage cells. When you eat pineapple, the enzymes in it will “eat” the cells of your tongue. This is why your mouth will hurt if you eat too much pineapple. But luckily, the cells in your tongue will be well fast. And after you have eaten the pineapple, the special enzymes will end up getting broken down by your stomach. It won’t “eat” you anymore.

Why does pineapple have these enzymes? Some scientists believe that they are created by the plant to prevent animals from eating its immature(未成熟的)fruits. Once the fruit is mature, its enzymes won’t hurt an animal’s tongue and the fruit will be okay to eat. Another explanation is that the enzymes help the seed to mature. They send messages when to start and stop growing to the cells of the plant.

文章大意:本文介绍了养兔子需要知道的事情。

【推荐3】Are you looking to buy a small, cute pet? If you’re thinking about getting a rabbit, make sure to think twice! Rabbits can be fun pets. However, there are important things that you should know if you want to keep one or more rabbits in your home. Don’t let their cute appearance fool you — rabbits are a lot of work!

The first thing to know is that rabbits are very social animals. That means they need as much friendship and attention as people do— maybe even more. For this reason, it’s a good idea to have two rabbits. If you don’t have the money to buy two rabbits, make sure you have enough free time to spend with the one you choose.

To keep healthy, rabbits also need a lot of physical activities. A pet rabbit needs at least four hours of daily exercise every day. Because of this, it’s best for you to have a large yard for them to run around in.

Rabbits like biting things because their teeth never stop growing. To keep their teeth from getting too large, rabbits have to use them on things. Be sure to cover any furniture or wires (家具或电线) that your rabbits can reach.

And lastly, rabbits get scared easily, so they do not get along well with very young children. They are better pets for older, more responsible kids. Though not for everyone, these cute animals are wonderful pets for patient and prepared people. So, think carefully before deciding to have one as a pet.
