Beep….beep…. There went the bell! Robbie opened his eyes. He had been sitting in the room for a whole day, and now it was time for him to do something.
Robbie looked out of the window. It was still snowing heavily and there was ice on the window. Robbie was told to turn the heat on before the family got home. And he did it.
Then Robbie was told to do some cleaning work at once. It was an easy job for him, but a tough(困难的) one for his master, Victor. He kept on working until every room was clean and tidy.
Then, he had to cook supper for the family. The first thing Robbie did was to get the big pot(锅) in the kitchen. Then he put some water in the pot and put it on the stove(炉子). He used one of his hands to cut up a chicken and added the pieces to the water to make good soup, Then he got some tomatoes, cabbages and carrots to make a vegetable salad.
At ten past eight he laid the table. Then he put some bread, the chicken soup and the salad on it. What a sweet smell! The moment he turned on the lights, the whole family came home.
“The soup smells great, Victor,” said Helen.“ You really know how to tell Robbie what to do.”

I’ve found that when kids cook, they’re more likely to taste new foods and eat dinner well! More than once, I felt sad when my children refused to eat what I’d prepared. But when they’re involved(参与)in the cooking, they’re interested in the meal.
A UK study found that if a child learns to cook from the beginning, they’ll be far more likely to do the same as an adult — and preparing food from the beginning is linked to healthier eating. It’s good for their future.
Whichever type your child loves to eat. If they love macaroni(通心粉)cheese or roast chicken, just let them make the foods they love.
Choose a day of the week that you are not busy. Spend time with your kids beforehand and find a recipe they’d like to try. Make sure you have the ingredients in advance, and be with them to help when your children prepare the meal. Parents need to take a step back and let their children have more time in the kitchen — it does so much for their sense of independence(独立).

【推荐3】Nobody likes to do chores (家务), especially kids. How can you make your kids get into a good habit of doing their chores? Try making chores fun for them.
Play some music: Music makes everything seem like a party, doesn’t it ? Play your kids’ favorite music and let them dance around while they are doing their chores.
Make it treasure hunt (寻宝): It’s a good way when you would like them to clean the house. Let them know that you hide a $5 bill someplace. If they find it, they can keep it.
Change often: If your kids keep doing the same chores for months, they may feel bored. Teaching them a new task (任务) is fun for both you and the kids. They will feel more grown up when they get a new task.
Do it together: It’s never fun to be the only one working and watching everyone else relaxing. If everyone takes part in doing chores, you will finish them faster and have more fun.
