Photographs are everywhere. They decorate the walls of homes and are used in stores for sales of different goods. The news is often filled with pictures of fires, floods, and special events. Photos record the beauty of nature. They can also bring things close that are far away. Through photos, people can see wild animals, cities in foreign lands, and even the stars in outer space. Photos also tell stories.
Reporting the news through photos is called photojournalism. At times photojournalists tell their stories through a single picture. At other times, they use a group of pictures to tell a story. Each picture is like a chapter in a book, which can do more than record the facts. It can also be a strong force for social change.
Jacob Riis was among the first photojournalists. He took pictures of parts of New York City where the poor lived. Riis believed that poverty (贫穷) caused crime, and he used photos to help him prove his point. A few years later, the photos of small children working in factories by Lewis Hine shocked the public. Hine’s pictures helped bring about laws to protect such children.
Hundreds of pictures may have to be taken in order to get one or two really good photos. It takes science to have the photo come out clearly and art to make a photo that has a good design and expresses feelings. Photojournalists make anactual record of what they see. A photo, however, can be both a work of art and an actual record. It can record an important event as a beautiful or exciting picture.
As historical and artistic documents (文献), photos can become more important over time. Today photojournalists still have their pictures appear in newspapers and magazines. They also publish them in books and on the Internet.

【推荐2】Feeling sad is an important part of human nature.
Jerome Wakefield, a professor at New York University, mentions that feeling down after your heart is broken is normal and may even be beneficial. Recently, Wakefield’s students have been coming up to him because their parents are pressuring them to get help for their sadness; often the kids want no part of it. Rather than “listen to medicine,” they want to listen to their hearts. He believes these students’ reaction represents an important part of human nature.
Professor Diener, who has studied happiness for a quarter century, finds that the Scots and many other peoples like being sad, and don’t appreciate being told they should be happier. “They say too much happiness might not be such a good thing no matter where it comes from,” says Diener. He believes it’s wrong for the “happiness industry” to send the message that not only can we all be happier, but we have a duty to be so. He argues that what is considered normal sadness is something we shouldn’t avoid.
Eric Wilson, a professor at Wake Forest University, made every effort to smooth out his habitual frown(皱眉)and wear a sunny smile, since a happy expression can lead to happy feelings. He even tried to be enthusiastic. When neither of these made him happy he concluded that such a happiness movement was no good for him at all. Americans, love for happiness, he writes, creates an environment where sadness is not valued.
These researchers believe the problem of continuous, extreme happiness should not be surprising, since negative emotions developed for a reason. Fear warns us against the presence of danger, for instance. Sadness, too, seems to be part of our DNA: monkeys, dogs and elephants all display something that looks like sadness. Being “up” all the time can cause you to play down very real threats.
They believe that only by experiencing sadness can we experience the fullness of the human condition. Their studies show that when you are in a negative frame of mind, you become more logical and more creative. Abraham Lincoln was not limited by his dark moods, and Beethoven composed his later works in a sad state. Vincent van Gogh, Emily Dickinson and other artistic giants saw the world through a glass darkly.
People who are somewhat unhappy are more motivated to improve both their own lot and the lot of their community. In contrast, people at the top of the happiness charts feel no such urgency(迫切需要). “If you’re totally satisfied with your life,” says Diener, “you don’t feel like working for change. Be careful when people tell you that you should be happier.”

Your comfort zone is a place, activity, situation or psychological state in which you feel free from anxiety and things are within your ability or control. But stepping out of it also has positive results.
When you break free and try new things, you'll be more productive and get more unexpected changes. That's because by living outside your comfort zone when you choose to, you can experience uncertainty in a controlled, manageable environment, which can prepare you for future life changes that force you out of it. Besides, as you step out of your comfort zone, productive discomfort becomes more normal to you, and you'll be willing to push further before your performance falls off.
Here are some ways to break out of your comfort zone without going too far:
Do everyday things differently. Ride your bike instead of taking the bus to school. Try a different diet. Use a new operating system. Don't be upset if things don't work out the way you planned.
Break the activity down into small steps. If you're frightened or overwhelmed (难以承受的)by the challenge you\e picked for yourself, don't do it at once. You can make it a multi-step process that will let you slowly climb that mountain.
Trust yourself and make snap decisions. Perhaps you are more comfortable weighing all of the possible choices several times, but sometimes making a snap call is in order, just to get things moving. Doing so can help you kickstart your personal projects and teach you to trust your judgment.
Yet, with all its possible benefits, you can't live outside of your comfort zone all the time. You need to come back from time to time to review your experiences. Take time to reflect on your experiences so you can apply the benefits you've got to your day-to-day activities.
Your comfort zone is neither a good or bad thing. It's a natural state that most people trend towards (倾向于). Leaving it means increased risk and anxiety, which can have positive and negative results, but don't demonize (妖魔化)your comfort zone as something holding you hack. We all need that headspace where we're least anxious and stressed so we can process the benefits we get when we leave it.

B.making a change to our routine helps to increase our productivity |
C.reducing stress and risk is what we need to bring out the best in us |
D.breaking activities down into small steps leads to greater achievements |

B.To advise people to treat the comfort zone in a proper way. |
C.To introduce some ways of improving day-to-day performance. |
D.To stress the importance of dealing with uncomfortable moments. |
Future roads with 5G
In sci-fi movies, you might see cars that can drive by themselves – you tell them where you want to go, and they take you there as fast as possible. With 5G, cars like this may soon turn into reality.
Finland’s “robot buses” are a good example. Telecoms (电信) company Nokia has installed (安装) 5G transmitters (信号发射器) in 15 lampposts (路灯柱) along a 1-km road. These transmitters are able to control (控制) the buses, making them driverless, according to Raconteur Media.
There are also 5G roads. These roads would also have many 5G transmitters. They can provide smart services, such as telling you where the nearest gas station (加油站) is.
These roads could also be used to control traffic. “Transport bodies will be able to manage a road network (网络) in real time, controlling traffic lights, traffic flow (车流) through computer programs,” said Guy Matthews, director at CGI UK, a tech consultancy company.
Public transportation can also benefit (受益) from 5G and smart tech. In the South Korean city of Seoul, a smart management system has been set up in one of the city’s subway stations. This system has many advanced features (功能), including a 3D map, sensors (传感器) and an advanced camera system that make the station more efficient and safe, according to Arirang News.
And of course, there are driverless cars. These cars can send signals (信号) to each other. They also “talk” to traffic lights and road sensors. 5G will allow these cars to drive more safely (安全地) because they can communicate with each other, as well as with traffic lights and road sensors.

It is known as fake news. It became a big problem during the US presidential election(选举). People were posting untrue stories on the Internet about Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Thousands of people were sharing them, thinking they were true. People think it must be true if so many people have shared it. It isn’t just politics(政治) where it happens though. Shopping advertisements, celebrity gossip(名人流言), and even local news from your city can be fake news. Perhaps you or one of your friends has shared fake news in WeChat friend circle.
But how can you tell if it’s real or fake? Knowing about fake news can actually be very easy. First of all, “just because it’s on the Internet, it doesn’t make it true,” according to CNN’s AJ Willingham. He says there are different kinds of fake news. Some are designed by some websites. Some news has untrue titles or pictures. These things attract(吸引) people and make them click(点击) on the story.
Communications expert Melissa said that everyone should think carefully about what they read. Some adults worry that you’re more interested in the phone than the world around you. They see you as the “face-down generation” and wonder how you will deal with school, friends, and family. Are today’s teenagers too busy texting and taking selfies (自拍) to become successful in real life or “IRL”, as you would say?
Other adults worry that today’s youth are spoiled and don’t want to face the challenges of adult life. Many children born in the 1990s and 2000s were raised by “helicopter parents” who were always there to do everything for them. So today’s young people seem to prefer to live like teenagers even when they are in their 20s or 30s.
Does the face-down generation need a heads-up? Well, probably not. The fact is that many of today’s teenagers are better educated and more creative than past generations. They also seem to be willing to become leaders. More young people than ever volunteer to serve their communities. There are also brave young people such as Malala Yousafzai, the teenager who won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize for pushing girls’ rights to go to school.
So if you are one of them born in the 2000s, there’s reason to be hopeful about the future. Things are looking up for the face-down generation.

2021 is the year of the ox(牛). In March, a set of stamps about the famous Tang Dynasty painting, Five Oxen, came out. It allows more people to know better the great art of ancient China, as well as the importance of agriculture(农业) in history.
Han Huang (723-787) was the painter of Five Oxen. He worked as a government official in the Tang Dynasty. His paintings were loved by many because the animals he painted were so alive. Unluckily, Five Oxen is probably his only painting left.
