Many Americans enjoy running in their daily life. Early in the morning, at noon or in the evening, whether in big cities or in the countryside, all over the United States, you can see Americans running-men and women, the young and the old. People run everywhere-down quiet streets in towns or at the gym. Some people even run in their living rooms.
However, running wasn’t so popular in the past. In the 1960s, few people ran, of whom most were athletes(运动员)and healthy strong people. At that time, women almost never ran. If they did, they might be laughed at. But today things change. Men and women of all ages enjoy running.
Doctors say many of the health problems come from bad habits like eating too much, smoking cigarettes or taking little exercise. They often advise people to eat less and exercise more. In fact, if you aren’t ready to change your diet, you can start running.

【推荐2】Many people run for exercise. But what will you do if you are not a “born” runner or jogger (慢跑者). You may still want a kind of exercise that’s cheap and easy to do. Why not try walking?
Walking requires (需要) no special equipment (装备). It is a kind of exercise that almost any normal(正常的), healthy person can do. Walking is good for your health like jogging or running; it will just take longer. Jogging and running make your heart work harder than walking. They also put more stress (压力) on your legs and feet than walking does.
The problem with walking is that most people don’t take it seriously. But, there’s a big difference between serious walking and the walking that most of us do. Walking, like jogging, should have a steady and continuous motion(稳健而持续的动作).
If you want to get your exercise by walking, you need to have your own walking plan. After all, runners and joggers set goals (设置目标) for themselves. Walkers need goals, too. You also need to set a course to walk. Start by walking about 15 — 30 minutes a day. Increase (增加) your time and distance (距离) slowly. And try increasing your walking speed (速度) little by little.
If you prefer to jog or run, follow the same advice. Start off slowly. Spend most of the first few days just walking. Then, start walking and running on the same day. Run or jog a short distance, then walk for a while, then run, then walk. Follow that pattern for 15 — 30 minutes a day. Slowly make each run longer and each walk shorter. Later on, ________.

Everybody knows that soccer is one of the most popular sports in the world.
Soccer is not a new sport. People all over the world played the game in different ways long ago. For example, in China nearly 2,000 years ago, soldiers kicked a ball as part of their exercise. Five hundred years ago in Europe, games in the street were common.
Soccer became popular in England in the 1800s. Different schools, clubs and groups played with different rules. In 1863, these English groups had meetings. They organized(组织)the different games into one game with similar rules. Soon, they formed the Football Association.
Not everyone agreed with the new rules. In England, some groups wanted to hold the ball with their hands so these groups formed rugby clubs. Groups in the United States also wanted to use their hands in the sport so they formed"football"clubs. Americans who didn't want to use their hands called the game “soccer”. Soccer is a short form of the word association.
From England, soccer began to grow. The first official international game of soccer was played between Scotland and England in 1872. By the 1880s, there were professional soccer teams in several parts of Europe. English players also introduced soccer to Africa, South America and New Zealand.
Soccer soon became very popular all around the world. FIFA, the international football federation(联盟), met for the first time in 1904. Seven countries came to the meeting. The first World Cup was in Uruguay in 1930. Only 13 countries played in the Uruguayan World Cup.
The World Cup is now the most popular sporting event in the world. Over 720 million people around the world watch the final game of the World Cup.

As modern young people, we all have our own dreams. And it’s our passion that drives us forward. I have a friend who loves music and often posts his own works on the Internet. He receives lots of followers and praise. He can not only develop his interest, but also have an influence on others. And I realized that millions of young people like him are now bravely chasing(追逐)their dreams.
At the same time, we have to take up our social responsibility. No matter when a big accident happens, there are always armed police officers around the country fighting there. Among them, some are even 00s. In addition, it’s touching to see many people offer help online by donating money and clothes. People usually move or lift things in life. But sometimes many people hurt their backs when they try to lift heavy things from the floor. It is easy to hurt your back muscles (肌肉) when you try to pick up a heavy thing. However, there are some correct ways to lift things from the floor. If you pick up heavy things correctly, you probably will not hurt your back. Here are some tips (提示) for you.
Firstly, you should do the following steps when you want to lift something heavy from the floor.
★Bend (弯曲) your knees and lower yourself.
★Keep your back straight. Do not bend over from your waist (腰). If you bend over, the muscles in your lower back can become hurt very easily.
★Keep your back and hips (臀部) and waist in a line. If you keep them straight, the muscles are stronger, because they hold up together. The other muscles can then help the lower back muscles.
Secondly, when you lower yourself, you should try to get as close to the thing as you can. For example:
★Put one knee on each side of the thing.
★Remember to keep your back straight at all times.
★Put your hand under the thing that is in front of you, between your knees.
Thirdly, to lift the things, you should stand up slowly. Use your leg muscles in order to stand up. In other words, lift with your legs, not with your back.

When you’re bored, what will you do first? If you’re like many, the answer is quite simple: You reach for your phone. Five minutes of short videos or funny pictures seem like a pleasant break.
If that sounds familiar, a new study has bad news. Reaching for your phone is likely to leave you feeling more bored. The problem isn’t taking a break. The problem is your phone. A research shows using phones can’t help people relax from their heavy work.
To find out the relation between phones and boredom, the research team placed an app on the phones of 83 volunteers to find out how often they used their phones. They also asked these volunteers to keep diaries for three days, recording their level of boredom every hour. “Phone breaks were frequent (频繁的): In the 20 minutes following each survey, the volunteers picked up their phones 52 percent of the time. They spent an average of around 90 seconds on it each time,” reports the research team. “The more tired we are, the most likely we are to reach for our phones. While we look at our phones to relieve (减轻) boredom, screen time seemed to increase feelings of boredom. The volunteers actually reported higher levels of boredom after having used their smart phones.”
The research team pointed out that phone breaks may end up being more tiring than exciting. In other words, watching funny videos is nice, but it’s now worth the cost to your brain in effort and attention. In addition, picking up your phone might remind you that you have a better choice to do something else if you don’t have to finish the tasks immediately. Both your time and effort are easily wasted.
What should we do instead? Here are some good tips for you. Taking a walk is good exercise. Calling someone can make your mood cheerful. Reading a book gives your brain a fresh start. You can do many things like that. Just remember, don’t reach for your phone!

A new study of 8,000 young people in the Journal of Health and Social Behavior shows that although love can make adults live healthily and happily, it is a bad thing for younger people. Puppy love (早恋) may bring stress for young people and can cause depression (忧郁症). The study shows that girls become more depressed than boys, and younger girls are the worst of all. The possible reason for the connection between love and higher risk of depression for girls is “loss of self”. According to the study, this “loss of self”is much more likely to make depression when it happens to girls. Young girls who have romantic relationships usually like hiding their feelings and opinions. They won’t tell that to their parents. Marianm Kaufman, an expert on young people problems, says 15% to 20% young people will have depression during their growing, Try romance often causes the depression. She advises kids not to jump into romance too early. During growing up, it is important for young people to build strong friendships and a strong sense of self. She also suggests parents should encourage their kids to keep close to their friends, attend more interesting school activities and spend enough time with family. Parents should watch for signs of depression—eating or mood changes—and if they see signs from their daughter or son, they need to give up. The good news is that the connection between romance and depression seems to become weak with age. Love will always make us feel young, but only maturity (成熟) gives us a chance to avoid its bad side effects.
