It took them six years to prepare everything for the trip. First, they bought a new boat. Then, they had to take advanced (高级的) sailing lessons and learn all about the sea and the weather. Confucius (551-479 BC) was a great thinker and teacher in the Spring and Autumn Period of China. He was born in Qufu, capital of the state of Lu (part of Shandong). He acted as an official (官员) there. But he was perhaps a better thinker than he was an official and he ended up having to leave the state of Lu. He spent 13 years traveling around the other states, spreading his ideas. And he tried to teach people that peace was very important for a healthy society. However, it was not until the rule of Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty (156-87 BC) that his ideas were finally put into practice. In his last few years, he returned to Qufu where he spent the rest of his life teaching. His teachings were recorded by his followers in a book called Lunyu.
Confucius’s teachings formed the base of Chinese thoughts. Confucius thought everyone should develop virtues (美德) and always do the right thing. To help people understand how to behave towards others, he taught five virtues accepted by all Chinese. They are ren, yi, li, zhi and xin.
The final goal is xiao that is the duties a person has to their parents. It means loving, respecting, and taking care of one’s parents in their old age. Xiao forms the base of a peaceful society.
It is clear that Confucius’s thought will continue to be a necessary part of Chinese culture. And it will continue to do something good to the development of China and even the whole world.

The chip that Huawei made alone says a lot about how much they care about making new tech, and how much they understand about what technology will be like in the future.
Huawei Mate 60 is a really good phone. It has a large screen that makes it easy to use and see. The phone is also very fast, allowing you to run many apps at the same time without any problems. Another great thing about the Mate 60 is its battery which can last for a long time on a single charge. Overall, the Huawei Mate 60 is a great smartphone that offers a lot of value for its price.
Making phones has been hard for Huawei because of some problems they’ve had. However, instead of giving up, Huawei worked harder and developed their own chip, which made them a stronger competitor in the tech industry. YES | Student A Paying special fees is seen as a normal business behavior. Disneyland is a for-profit (盈利) theme park, which means it has to find ways to make money. Guests who get to jump the queue have paid an extra fee, so why should we blame them? |
Student B According to Disneyland’s rules, VIPs may cut in line. After all, they have spent more money. If you buy a first-class ticket on a plane, you receive better treatment. And in banks, there are VIP windows for special customers. Spending more money is just a choice. | |
NO | Student C I think this service is a bad idea. First, it’s unreasonable to build one’s happiness upon others’ pain, so being rich doesn’t mean we can do whatever we want. Second, this rule may teach children that people can solve any problem with money, which is a misleading (误导) attitude (态度) towards life. |
Student D I don’t agree with paying extra money to cut in line. Though it’s convenient for VIP visitors, it wastes other tourists’ time, leaving a very bad impression on them. To make the matter worse, children will see that the world isn’t fair to everyone, which will be bad for the development of their values. |

Reading newspapers is a convenient way to get the daily news. They are not expensive, and we can buy them at gas stations, supermarkets and newsstands. However, newspapers were not always so easy to get until Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press (印刷机) in the fifteenth century. It made copies by making a piece of paper across metal type (金属活字印刷). There is black ink on it. That’s why “the press” not only means the machine that prints the newspaper, but also newspapers themselves.
The term “newspaper” was first introduced during the 17th century, and the first newspaper was printed in Germany. Before people got into the habit of buying their own copies, a single copy was posted in a public place on a wall or notice board.
Newspapers were not designed very beautifully at first. Today, newspapers contain much more than a record of the day’s events. There are sections for fashion, food, sports, cartoons and games. Newspapers are a source of information and entertainment. For hundreds of years, printed newspapers were very popular.
However, in the 21st century, printed newspapers are starting to disappear. Four hundred years ago, there were not many newspapers because they could not be printed quickly, and many adults didn’t even know how to read. Today tablets, phones, and the Internet are replacing (代替) newspapers because it is easier and cheaper to read the news online.
