【推荐2】Wu Xiaobo is a doctor from Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, China. In September 2017, he went to see his son staying in America by plane. After saving the lives of two passengers during the trip, he became a hero.

Wu’s plane took off on September 29. He and his wife planned to fly to Los Angeles. On the plane, a man passenger fell unconscious suddenly. The workers on the plane called for a doctor’s help. Wu Xiaobo heard the news and hurried to the passenger. He found the passenger had a stroke. He suggested the plane should land as soon as possible because the passenger was in great danger and he needed to be sent to the hospital quickly. So the plane had to land in San Francisco. Thanks to Wu Xiaobo, the passenger was saved at last.

And this wasn’t the last time the doctor was called on to help out an air traveller. Heading back to China on the same trip, Wu Xiaobo helped a woman passenger on October 10th 2017. The woman fell down on the plane suddenly just like the man passenger, but luckily the woman came to herself with the help of Wu.

Many people spoke highly of Wu, and some of them even called him a hero. But he thought that was just what a doctor should do.

Alyssa is an astronaut. She was chosen to be the first person to land on Mars (火星) by NASA in 2021 at the age of 17. She may go to Mars in 2033 and never come back to the earth. So her father is a little worried. He thinks that Mars may be a very dangerous place. Alyssa is probably going to leave the earth and never return to the earth in the future.

Alyssa expressed why she dreamed of being an astronaut in a recent interview. She said, “Well, I first wanted to become an astronaut from watching a cartoon called the Backyardigans when I was three. In the cartoon, the characters flew to Mars.” After that, the girl just kept asking for videos, books and anything she could find about space. And her parents have always given her love and support.

Alyssa has always been working hard for her dream. She went to an expensive space school to get training. Studying there isn’t always easy. It needs to pass a lot of tests like floating (漂浮) in the air. At first she felt sick in her stomach, but later she got used to it. Finally she made it to be an astronaut. From what she said, we also knew that Alyssa enjoyed speaking in public and talking to the girls who wanted to be astronauts.

【推荐3】Robin Hood is one of the most popular and interesting characters in English folk (民间的) stories, and his story is quite well known across the world. In fact, stories about the adventures of Robin Hood have been around for over six hundred years. There have been several films made about him, including three in Hollywood. But who was he, and was he actually real?

In the thirteenth century, King Richard and his army were fighting in foreign lands. Richard’s brother John ruled England while he was away. John was a cruel (残忍的) ruler, and so was his friend — the terrible police officer of Nottingham. The police officer asked for money from all the people who lived in the area of Nottingham. The poor had to pay a lot and struggled (挣扎) to live.

In the story, Robin Hood was angry at the unfairness and decided to fight against it. He and his fellows lived in Sherwood Forest, a large wood near Nottingham. They caught the king’s deer for food. They also robbed (抢) rich people who were travelling through the forest and gave the money to poor people. The forest was considered a dangerous place, but to Robin and his band, it was a place of safety, away from the police officer’s men.

There are some findings that a man called Robin Hood actually lived during the thirteenth century. The fact is that he was not quite such a good man as the one in the folk stories. But it is the heroic character in the story that we remember.

Today, Sherwood Forest is a tourist attraction. Nearly a million people every year come to learn about Britain’s most famous Robin Hood. And even if he wasn’t quite such a great man, it’s a great story!

Governments (政府) have advised people that there is no need to be in such a rush. They said that panic buying would only be bad for people who really need these things.

Psychologists (心理学家) say panic buying is a bad action that is called FOMO—the fear of missing out. Dr Katharina Wittgens said because of the coronavirus, people began to copy the actions of others. People watch the news that someone else is buying something, so they rush out to the stores to do the same right away. She said people were too afraid in front of coronavirus. She said, “Far more people die in car accidents per year but we don’t panic about these things in the morning before we go to work.” Singapore’s prime minister said to Singaporeans, “We have enough things for people. There’s no need to buy too much of them.”
