Why is setting goals important? Because goals can help you do and experience everything you want in life.

Successful people in life think how their life should be and set lots of goals. By setting goals, you are taking control(控制)of your life. It’s like having a map to show you where you want to go. Think of it in this way. There are two drivers. One has a destination(目的地)in mind, and he can find it on a map. He can drive there easily. The other driver has no goal or map. He starts off at the same time from the same place. But he drives around, never getting anywhere, just using up(用尽)fuels. Which driver do you want to be?

Successful people set goals and follow them. They decide what they want in life and then get it by setting goals and making plans. Unsuccessful people don’t think goals are important. They just let things happen by accident(偶然地). Goals aren’t difficult to set, and they aren’t difficult to reach. You should find out what your goals really are.

According to a study, when we write a goal down, it’s possible for us to get to it. We may read the written goals at any time. Also when you write your goals in your own way, you are able to make yourself get closer to your goal by working hard.

1. What does the writer want to tell us by giving the example of the two drivers?
A.Setting goals is an important part in our life.
B.It’s hard for people to take control of their life.
C.A map is important to drivers when they are lost.
D.People need to prepare a lot of fuels before traveling.
2. What can we know from the third paragraph?
A.Winners always let things happen by accident.
B.Setting goals isn’t as easy as we usually think.
C.People should give up immediately when goals are difficult to follow.
D.Successful people decide what they want in life first and then set goals.
3. Which of the following sentences could be in the blank “A”?
A.They are hard to forget.B.They are boring to read.
C.They are difficult to write.D.They are interesting to think about.

Most of them drive private cars. Of all the cars, Anna’s father’s car is the best. Anna seems to have a very rich father. She always has beautiful dresses, shoes and bags.     2     But she has no friends in school. When other students are playing, she never joins them. I don’t like her because she is too perfect. It makes me uncomfortable to make friends with her. She seems to have everything.

One afternoon, when I went to my father’s car. I saw a small thing fall out of Anna’s bag. So I called her quickly.     3     During the dinner, my father asked me, “Why do you look unhappy?”

“Today I saw something fall out of Anna’s bag, so I called her. But she didn’t answer me.     4     ” I said angrily. “Oh, I know that girl. She has no friends and is unhappy because she was born deaf. I am sure that she didn’t hear you.”

【推荐2】As graduation day approached, excitement increased. Being out of high school meant I was finally coming of age. Soon I would be on my own, making my own decisions, doing what I wanted without someone looking over my shoulder and it meant going to school with boys—a welcome change coming from an all-girl high school. There was never any question in my mind that I would go to a college away from home.

My mother’s idea, on the other hand, was just the opposite. Trying her best not to force her preferences on me, she would subtly ask whether I had considered particular schools—all of which happened to be located in or near my hometown of Chicago.

Then panic set in. My feelings took a 180-degree turn. I really didn’t want to leave high school at all, and it was questionable whether I wanted to grow up after all. It had been nice being respected as a senior by the underclass students for the past year; I didn’t enjoy the idea of being on the bottom rung of the ladder again.

Despite months of expectation, nothing could have prepared me for the impact of the actual day. As the familiar melody(旋律) of “Pomp and Circumstance” echoed(回声) in the background, I looked around at the other figures in white caps and gowns as we seriously lined into the hall. Tears welled up uncontrollably in my eyes, and I was consumed by a rush of sadness. As if in a daze(恍惚), I rose from my seat when I heard my name called and slowly crossed the stage to receive my diploma. As I reached out my hand, I knew that I was reaching not just for a piece of paper but for a brand-new life. Exciting as the future of a new life seemed, it wasn’t easy saying good-bye to the old one—the familiar faces, the familiar routine. I would even miss that chemistry class I wasn’t particularly fond of and the long travel each day between home and school that I hated. Good or bad, it was what I knew.

Although going back is impossible, it’s comforting to know I can revisit my special memories any time.

【推荐3】A secret to win
Once a 10-year-old boy decided to learn judo (柔道) though he had lost his left arm in a car accident.
The boy began lessons with an old Japanese sensei, a judo teacher. Three months later, he was still practising with the same move. So he asked, “Sensei, shouldn’t I be learning more moves?”
“This is the only move you know, but this is the only move you’ll ever need to know,” the sensei replied.
The boy kept training. Months later, the sensei took him to his first match.
Surprisingly, the boy easily won his first two matches. The third match was more difficult, but after some time, his opponent (对手) became impatient. The boy used his one move to win the match and now was in the final.
This time, his opponent was bigger, stronger, and more experienced. For a while, the boy seemed to lose the game. Being worried that the boy might get hurt, the referee (裁判) called a break. Just before the referee wanted to end the match, the sensei came to him.
“No,” the sensei said, “let him go on.” Soon after the match began, his opponent made a big mistake: he dropped his guard (防守). Suddenly, the boy won the match.
On the way home, the boy and the sensei talked about every move in each match. Then the boy gathered the courage to ask, “Sensei, how did I win the match with only one move?”
“You won for two reasons,” the sensei answered. “First, you’ve learned one of the most difficult throws in all of judo. Second, the only known guard for that move is for your opponent to catch your left arm.”
