Do you know what you can do to protect the Earth? Here are some things you can do in your daily life.
Plant a tree
It’s good for the air and the land. It can shade (遮蔽) your house and make you have a cool summer.
Turn off computers at night
Turn off your computer if you don’t use it. You can save 40 watt-hours per day. That is 4 cents (美分) a day, or $14 per year. If you don’t want to wait for your computer to start up, set it to turn on automatically (自动地) a few minutes before you get to work.
Buy some second-hand (二手的) things
Buy things from a second-hand store such as toys, bicycles and other things. Second-hand stores often sell these things in good quality (质量) because they are used for such a short time.
Don’t take a bath
Have a no-bath week. You can take showers. If you take a shower, you can save water and energy. You can also save much money.

How did you learn to ride your bike? Someone probably gave you a few lessons and then you practiced a lot. You can learn how to study in the same way. No one is born knowing how to study. You need to learn a few study skills and then practice them. Here are some tips for you.
Good studying starts in class. When you pay attention in class and take good notes, you are starting learning and studying. Tell your teacher or parents about any problem that is preventing you from paying attention and taking good notes.
Plan ahead and you’ll be glad you did. Waiting until Thursday night to study for Friday’s test will make a homework night. That’s not fun! You can’t get all the knowledge in one single night. One of the best ways to make sure that doesn’t happen is to plan ahead. Ask for a cool calendar and write down your test dates. You can then plan how much to do after school each day, and how much time to spend on each topic.
When there’s a lot to study, it can help to break things into chunks. If you have a test on 20 spelling words, you should try to break them down into five-word chunks and work on one or two different chunks each night.

Do you like tomatoes? I think they’re delicious! They are fun and easy to grow, too!
Step 1: Plant the Seeds( 种子)
Fill a small pot with soil(土壤). Use a pencil to make a hole halfway down the soil. Put two seeds in the hole. Fill the hole with soil.
Step 2: Water the Seeds
Water the seeds, but do not too much.
Step 3: See the Seedling( 幼苗)
Each day, make sure that the soil is a little wet. In about a week, you’ll see a seedling come out of the soil! Move the pot to a warm, sunny place.
Step 4: Time to Transplant(移栽)
Soon the seedling will be a few inches high. It’s time to plant the seedling outside. Dig a deep hole, and put the seedling inside.
Step 5: Water the Seedling
Put water in the hole. Fill the hole with soil. Pat the soil.
Step 6: Stake the Plant
As your tomato plant grows, tie the plant to a stake so that it will not fall to the ground. Flowers will bloom on the plant before the tomatoes will grow.
Pick the Tomatoes!
When is it time to eat your tomatoes? When they turn red!

Living things need clean air to breathe and clean water to drink. Plants need sunlight and land to grow, and we need plants for food. When plants breathe, they clean the air around them. We use the wood from plants and trees to make a lot of things, like paper, some houses, and furniture.
We shouldn’t hurt our natural resources because we can’t usually make more of them. Smoke from cars and factories makes the air dirty. If the air is dirty, people can get sick and plants can’t grow. If we cut down trees, we should plant new ones.
Trash is very bad for our natural resources. Sometimes people throw trash into water but we can’t drink dirty water, and plants can’t grow near it. Trash goes to places called landfills, and it stays there forever. Some landfills are dirty and they smell bad. People can’t use that land, and farmers can’t grow food on it.
We can all take care of the Earth’s resources. Here are some ideas:
★Use things until you can’t use them anymore.
★Don’t throw things away. Reuse them. Refill plastic drink bottles. Make toys from old things.
★Reduce the natural resources you use.
★Take your own bags to the store.

① Rebecca is a wildlife camerawoman from the United Kingdom. She was filming a documentary(纪录片)for the BBC in the Pacific Ocean (太平洋) when she saw something that made her cry: hundreds of dead birds. They died because they accidentally (偶然地) ate some of the plastic that is thrown into the sea each year. The beaches on the Pacific islands should have been some of the most beautiful places in the world. But they were covered with plastic toys, bottles, pens, cigarette lighters(打火机)—every plastic thing you can think of.
②Rebecca decided she had to do something In her hometown of Modbury in southwest England, she asked local shopkeepers if they could do something to help. She asked them to stop using plastic bags in their shops.
③Plastic bags are used everywhere in Britain. The numbers are amazing. Britain uses nearly 17 billion plastic bags each year. And the bags can take hundreds of years to break down(分解) because they are made of chemicals (化学物质). Each year, the sea and the environment become more and more polluted.
④To Rebecca's surprise, the shopkeepers agreed and Modbury became the first plastic bag-free town in Britain. Instead, shops offer reusable cotton bags or biodegradable(可生物降解的)bags. Other towns followed Modbury's example and more towns around Britain and around the world are becoming plastic bag-free.
⑤Now the bag for life is part of the national culture, and the task of reducing the use of plastic bags has become law(法律): since October 2015, all shops in the UK must charge(承担) five pence for each plastic bag used by each shopper, no matter how generous(大量的)their spending is! It's not enough, but it's a start.

I couldn’t think of any good reason not to be interested in, so I said, “Yes.” So the next day I met her and other three nice people and went to Hodo Soy Beanery in Oakland. I enjoyed the trip. And I learned a lot from the trip. The following is what I learned.
Tofu has a history of 2,000 years. Although the word “tofu” is from Japanese, the food comes from China. There are two main kinds of tofu: soft tofu and firm tofu. In some parts of Asia, people use tofu as a kind of meat.
Douhua is one kind of soft tofu. It is a popular breakfast food in China. Because it is very soft, people can’t eat it with chopsticks, but with a spoon. People often eat it as a dessert and often add spring onions and sauce to it. In Malaysia, people usually eat douhua with white or dark sugar water.

Qomolangma is very famous and it is higher than any other mountain in the world. Its newest height is 8,848.86 meters. At the height of 8,000 meters, there is only 30% O2 and the human body can only stand this height for a few days, so it is dangerous for humans to climb higher. But many climbers want to challenge themselves. As Alan Arnette, a mountain climber from America, said “Climbing mountains drives you to look deep inside yourself, and lets you find out whether you are strong enough in mind when you want to stop.”
It’s a good thing that Qomolangma gives people a chance(机会)to become strong-willed(意志坚强的)when they are trying to achieve their dreams. However, Qomolangma is in danger these years because many people leave their waste behind, such as water bottles and plastic(塑料的)bags. They cause the environmental pollution for Qomolangma. Many animals would die after eating the plastic bags. Luckily, many volunteers from all over the world came to Qornolangma to join in the clean-up activity. A volunteer advised, “Mountain climbing lovers should always take good care of themselves, and at the same time, take good care of Qomolangma.”

①Microplastics(微塑料) are one of the largest environmental problems we face. Most microplastics come from larger pieces of plastic as they break apart. They do great harm to the environment as well as the health of animals and humans.
②However, it is really hard to clean up microplastics. They are small bits of plastic less than 5mm long. Because of their size, they are difficult to clean up. This is especially true for microplastics in the ocean. Besides, they are nearly everywhere. They’ve been found in our oceans, on the top of mountains, in some of the food we eat and even in the stomachs of some ocean animals. What should we do about microplastics?
③The good news is that scientists at Sichuan University in southwestern China have made great progress in dealing with microplastics.
④A kind of small robotic fish has been invented to help deal with the microplastics in water. They are programmed to make their way through water collecting microplastics as they go. Though these swimmers are only 15 mm long, they can travel very quickly as they clean. Wang Yuyan, a member of Sichan University’s research team said the robotic fish could be controlled by light. As they swim along, any nearby microplastics get drawn towards them and stick to them.
⑤Another special thing about the robotic fish is that both their shape and the material they are made out of are inspired by ocean life. The team use the material from the inside of shells(贝壳) to make their robotic fish. As well as attracting microplastics, the material can even heal(自愈) itself after being cut.
⑥Now that the team has shown that their idea works, they are going to keep working on it. The scientists hope that their tiny fish-shaped robots will be able to help deal with this global problem. They hope in the future they can create new kinds of robotic fish that can work in deeper waters and collect more microplastics.
