Unlike the Big Lotus, the venue resembles a blooming (盛开的) lotus flower. Today both the Big Lotus and the Little Lotus have become new landmarks of Hangzhou. If you have a chance to visit Hangzhou, do remember to visit them.

The 24th Beijing Winter Olympics（冬季奥运会） will begin on 4th February, 2022. The Winter Paralympics（残奥会） will begin a month later. Do you know what are the mascots（吉祥物） for them? You may know the five “Fuwa” dolls from the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. On September 17th, 2019, the two lovely mascots first showed on TV. Now, let’s see who they are.

Look at the panda! It looks like an astronaut（宇航员）. It wears an ice shell（冰壳） and looks fat, so we call it “Bing Dwen Dwen”. White is the colour of ice and snow. “Bing Dwen Dwen” likes ice sports very much and is good at them. That’s why it is the mascot of 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games.

Do you think the red mascot looks like a lantern（灯笼）? The lantern’s name is “Shuey Rhon Rhon”. When the Chinese New Year comes, people always make or buy red lanterns. Red is the colour of hope and good luck, so people think their dreams will come true（实现） in the new year. “Shuey Rhon Rhon” can give players hope and help them do well in the 2022 Beijing Winter Paralympic Games. Many people in different countries like the two mascots very much, and they show their love for them on the Internet.

【推荐2】When he was a teenager, Hunter Adams was very unhappy and he spent many years in a special hospital for people with mental (心理的) health problems.

When he left the hospital, Adams decided to become a doctor, so he went to a medical school in Virginia, the US. But when he was there, he did things in different ways. For example, he didn’t like the doctors’ white coats, so he wore shirts with flowers on them when he visited his patients and he tried to make them laugh. The doctors at the medical school didn’t like Adams because he was too different.

Adams believed that people in hospital need more than medicine. When he saw unhappy and lonely people, he tried to help them not just as patients, but as people too. He spent a lot of time with children in the hospital and often dressed up as a clown to make the children laugh.

When he finished medical school and became a doctor, Adams opened his own hospital, called “The Gesundheit Institute”, together with some other doctors. They wanted it to be a place with a different way of working with sick people.

Hunter Adams became famous during the 1980s, and in 1998, Universal Pictures made a film about his life. It was very successful. In the film, Robin Williams played Adams. Williams said, “Hunter is a really warm person, who believes that patients need a doctor who is a friend. I enjoyed playing him.”
