How are you? Thank you for your last letter.
I like English and Maths, too. I think they’re interesting and useful. Our school is over at 3:40 p.m. every day and I can get home at 4 o’clock, but I don’t go home at once (立刻).
On Monday afternoon, I have a violin lesson for an hour. I like sports, and I’m in the school basketball team. On Tuesday afternoon, I play basketball at school with our PE teacher. On Wednesday afternoon, I shop with myparents. We buy a lot of fruit, and I like eating them very much. On Thursday, I often watch TV at home after school. I like “Sports World” very much.
On Saturday we don’t have classes. I often sing in an art school. I like singing and I can sing better now. I usually go to the park or have a rest on Sunday. I’m busy every day, but I’m very happy because I have fun in my life.
Yours,
Alice

Amy knew that many of her classmates’ families were from different countries around the world. They had many special traditions, spoke many different languages and ate many different kinds of foods. Amy had a good idea. She suggested that every student could bring a dish and hold a dinner night. Amy knew that their parents would be glad to take part in it.
“That’s a great idea. This is the first time we have held this activity.” Amy’s teacher, Mrs. Green said happily, “Let’s call it ‘Dinner Around the World’”.
Amy’s friend Amina was from Ethiopia, an African country. She brought beef and Ethiopian bread. Juan was from Mexico and she brought rice with cheese. The delicious rice tasted much better with cheese.
The activity was a great success. Everyone enjoyed seeing, smelling and tasting foods from so many different cultures.

In mid-June, school is out and nature has burst into life. Friends and family gather for the most important Swedish tradition of all: Midsummer.
Sweden's Midsummer Festival takes place on the longest day of the year. The holiday celebrates the summer solstice(夏至). At Midsummer, many begin their five-week holidays and everyone is in a hurry to get things done during the short summer season. Midsummer Eve is celebrated in the countryside. As always—and on the day before, everyone leaves towns, everything closes and the city streets are suddenly quiet.
People often begin the day by picking flowers and making wreaths(花环)to place on the maypole(五月柱), which is a key part of the celebrations.
Today, locals continue the tradition of weaving crowns from green leaves and flowers. Girls still pick seven different kinds of flowers to place under their pillows for good luck.

Some people think sugar-free drinks are healthier because they don’t have sugar or calories. They think having these drinks can help them lose weight.
In fact, sugar-free drinks have some sugar, although very little. Usually, if there is 0.5 grams (克) of sugar or less in a 100-gram drink, it can be described as a sugar-free drink. Although they have little sugar, sugar-free drinks still taste sweet because they use artificial sweeteners (人工甜味剂). But they have very few calories.
When we eat sweet-tasting things like sugar, they hit our brain and make us want more. Our brain tells our body to prepare itself for more sugar. When we drink a sugar-free drink, the brain receives the “sweet message”, but no sugar arrives. Since the brain is fooled, it still wants more sweets.
Some people drink sugar-free drinks instead of water. This is not a good choice. Sugar-free drinks can be bad for our teeth and influence our appetite (食欲).
