Driving coaches(教练)might soon be replaced by AI in the near future. A company in China has developed an AI-powered driving coach called RoboCoach, and it has already been used in driving schools.
However, RoboCoach is not a human-like robot that sits next to you and criticizes your driving skills. The digital(数字的)driving coach developed by Beijing Yi Jia Jia Technology is actually a teaching and safety control system(系统)put into the car.
The other way in which RoboCoach differs from human driving coaches is even more interesting, though. RoboCoach will call you as “mommy” or “daddy”, which is surprisingly funny for a system.
Besides the voice, the system uses a screen and a smart mirror to communicate with the learner. RoboCoach uses sensors(传感器)to slow down if the car runs into an object or speeds up suddenly for no reason, similar to how self-driving cars work.
“The RoboCoach has more than 40 different sensors on the car to sense people, other cars and roads, “Yi Jia Jia’s founder Ma Hong told Abacus, “It communicates with learners and makes proper decisions and instructions. “
The car also has radar(雷达)systems for faster decision making, he said. The system isn’t just keeping new drivers from running into objects. It also collects information on the learner’s driving behavior. It reads these driving habits in real time to see if the learner is calm or easy to get mad during practice and then changes its teaching style. By recording all the problems a learner has during lessons, the system will help the new driver correct past mistakes and prevent new ones.
The RoboCoach has recently been used in five driving instruction centers, which are owned by Yi Jia Jia’s parent company Hebei Lian Investment, as well as 22 other driving schools across China.

A Japanese company created this pet-friendly e-bike. Right under the rider’s seat is the pet’s space, which is 45 cm long, 33 cm high and 21 cm wide. In other words, you can not get any large pets in there, but small to medium-sized pets, can fit. If you are not a pet owner, Mopet’s design is great for carrying bags or any other medium-sized object you need to carry.
Mopet is not only practical, it is also safe. Riders can turn on the e-bike’s LED lights when riding at night to make their e-bike visible on the road. What’s more, the top speed of Mopet can only reach about 37 kilometers per hour, so no rider can go too fast while carrying their pets or objects.
Once you get your hands on Mopet, you are sure to spend a lot of time on it. The bad news is that it is only available(可提供的)in Japan now. Let’s look forward to it making its way to places outside Japan soon.

Guide dogs and canes are helpful, but there must be a better way for blind people to get around. A scientist in England thought so. His name is Waters and he studies bats(蝙蝠). He knows that bats are able to fly in the dark. Besides, he knows that bats go by using sound to “see”. Dr. Waters wondered if people could do something similar.
Bats make sounds as they fly. These sounds travel in waves(波)in the air. When the waves hit an object such as a tree or house, they bounce back(反射回来). The waves travel back to the bat’s ears. A bat learns the location and shape of objects around it.
Dr. Waters talked to other scientists. including Withington from America and Hoyle from Germany. They all worked together and invented a new kind of cane. They called it a “bat cane” because their idea started with bats. The new cane has a computer in the handle(手柄),
With a little training, a person using the cane can easily tell where objects are and can “see” with sound!

Printing | It was developed in 1041—1048 in the Song Dynasty. A man named Bi Sheng carved characters on pieces of clay and wood. Then he put ink on them. You are running in the playground. But then suddenly, you fall and hurt yourself. “Ow!” you cry. This sound is very familiar to us all. Crying out when we get hurt is a natural action. But have you thought about why we shout it out? And do people from different languages make the similar sound?
Scientists now believe they’ve found out the reason: shouting the word “ow” partly stops pain messages from traveling to the brain. So by shouting it out, people can feel less pain.
The scientists tested how long volunteers could hold their hands in very cold water. In the first group, they were allowed to shout “ow” when they felt pain. In another group they had to stay silent. The results showed that volunteers were able to keep their hands in the cold water for longer when they were allowed to shout out. Shouting out “ow” helps humans feel less pain and add the time.
What’s more, scientists have also found that different languages have similar expressions of pain. While cries of “ow” or “ouch” are heard in English, South Africans yell “eina”.
These languages have one thing in common: when people shout them, the mouth simply opens, the tongue (舌头)lies flat and the lips (嘴唇) unrounded. It is a simple sound that requires little control, so it’s easy to make a big sound. For the reasons, these sounds are useful to shout if we feel pain.
