I like to go slowly when I drive in the mountains of my home, because the forest is beautiful no matter what the season is. This morning, I was driving slower than usual because an early March snow had turned the roads wet. Going up a mountain road, I had to slow down as I rounded a snowy curve (弯道). That was when I saw a deer (鹿) standing in the middle of the road. I came to a full stop and for a few seconds we just stared at each other. His eyes seemed wise, calm. Finally, he nodded his head at me. I nodded in return and waved my hand for him to go on. He then jumped across the road, up the hill, and back into the woods. I drove on, smiling at the magic of this moment and thanked that I had been going slowly enough not to hit this beautiful animal.
Most of us rush through this life not knowing what we are missing. We hardly get to enjoy what each day brings us. Wouldn’t it be better to go slowly through our days here? Life is meant to be enjoyed. Moments are meant to be valued. Days are meant to be lived in love and joy, not flown through at a crazy speed.
▲ . Take the time to watch the sunrise over the sea level and fill the world with light. Take the time to look the children in their eyes, hug them, and tell them that you love them. Take the time to smile, laugh, and sing. Take the time to read, hang out, and relax. Take the time to live your life with love and enjoy all the wonderful moments each day brings you. If you do, your life will be so much better and more beautiful. And you might even end up not hitting a deer on your way home.

Shi Qinling, a paper-cutting artist, always brings a pair of scissors which allows her to create art whenever she has ideas. Most of her paper-cutting works are from moments in daily life, such as a neighbor’s dog, her own pets and scenes on the streets. “Some people like to write down their feelings in diaries. I prefer to cut them out,” says the 35-year-old, who is now working at the Fenglin community cultural activity center in Shanghai.
Shi developed an interest in handicraft (手工艺) when she was a child who often found herself alone playing with paper, folding and cutting them into different shapes. This interest later developed into a passion (酷爱). At the age of 26, one of her works, The Fighting Fish, won third place at the Baihua Cup, a competition for Chinese arts and crafts. Six years later, Shi became the city’s youngest inheritor (继承者) of paper-cutting.
Over the past few years, Shi’s works have been showed in 23 exhibitions. Shi and her workmates are now planning to produce cultural and creative goods to attract more people to learn paper-cutting. Today, more and more young workers start to show an interest in paper-cutting. There are now more than 100 people working on a Shanghai paper-cutting project, which hopes to promote folk arts.
“We are very proud to have this special folk culture and art project. And we should protect this cultural art form,” says Shi. “Paper-cutting is not about cutting different patterns from paper. Writers tell stories using words. I do the same, but with a pair of scissors,” she says. She takes paper-cutting as not just an art form, but also a form of learning about traditional Chinese culture.
23. It can be learnt from the passage that Shi ________.A.was taught how to cut by her parents | B.cuts out something fun in daily life |

Driving coaches(教练)might soon be replaced by AI in the near future. A company in China has developed an AI-powered driving coach called RoboCoach, and it has already been used in driving schools.
However, RoboCoach is not a human-like robot that sits next to you and criticizes your driving skills. The digital(数字的)driving coach developed by Beijing Yi Jia Jia Technology is actually a teaching and safety control system(系统)put into the car.
The other way in which RoboCoach differs from human driving coaches is even more interesting, though. RoboCoach will call you as “mommy” or “daddy”, which is surprisingly funny for a system.
Besides the voice, the system uses a screen and a smart mirror to communicate with the learner. RoboCoach uses sensors(传感器)to slow down if the car runs into an object or speeds up suddenly for no reason, similar to how self-driving cars work.
“The RoboCoach has more than 40 different sensors on the car to sense people, other cars and roads, “Yi Jia Jia’s founder Ma Hong told Abacus, “It communicates with learners and makes proper decisions and instructions. “
The car also has radar(雷达)systems for faster decision making, he said. The system isn’t just keeping new drivers from running into objects. It also collects information on the learner’s driving behavior. It reads these driving habits in real time to see if the learner is calm or easy to get mad during practice and then changes its teaching style. By recording all the problems a learner has during lessons, the system will help the new driver correct past mistakes and prevent new ones.
The RoboCoach has recently been used in five driving instruction centers, which are owned by Yi Jia Jia’s parent company Hebei Lian Investment, as well as 22 other driving schools across China.
27. It can be learned from the passage that RoboCoach ________.A.will be used in driving schools soon | B.looks like a robot sits next to the learner |
C.is a safety control system in the car | D.plays the role as learners’ parents |
A.communicating with the cars nearby | B.making decisions after thinking for a long time |
C.teaching learners when to change driving ways | D.choosing proper teaching style for drivers |
A.learners | B.mistakes | C.cars | D.lessons |
A.encourage people to get driver’s licenses | B.show a different way to stop car accidents |
C.make RoboCoach known around the world | D.introduce a new technology of learning driving |

Four Ways to Feel Less Busy
“Busy” is a word that everyone can relate to, and you probably feel busy during your week. The good news is that although our lifestyles are so busy, these simple ways can help you feel a little less busy.
◆Stop Saying You’re Busy
Words have amazing power over the way you feel. If you keep telling yourself how busy you are, you will start feeling even busier. Try to stop saying your feeling or situation as “being busy”.
◆Focus on (专注于) One Thing at a Time
Although you might be proud of yourself on doing many tasks at a time, the truth is you’ll get something done faster by focusing on one thing at a time. Dr. Morgenstern talked about the bad influence on your brain if you keep it busy all the time. Dr. Morgenstern said, “In fact, your brain cannot change between tasks quickly, so you lose time.”
