To most Americans, pumpkin pie(南瓜派)is a wonderful dish. If you want to enjoy the Thanksgiving Day,you must have it.
For me,however, the smell of pumpkin pie baking in the oven brings other special feelings. My father was in the army,so I often moved houses as a child. Before I could go to school or make friends in one town,we had to leave again.
There were so few things around me to give a feeling of home. When I was young,I did not know the difference—1 thought moving was usual. When I was a little older,I learned that most people have a hometown, but I didn't. Pumpkin pie was the one thing that was always there. That's why I like it so much. Another reason I like it is because I was born on October 31. It was Halloween. Every time my birthday came around,my father made a large pumpkin lantern for me. And my mother would prepare pumpkin pie for me as a gift. Before dinner my parents often said,"Happy birthday to you,Peter. "Now I still feel good about life whenever I eat pumpkin pie. To me,pumpkin pie means home

In my dream children sing
A song of love for everyone
The sky is blue and fields are green
And laugher is the language of the world
Then I wake and all I see
Is a world full of people' in need
Tell me why, why does it have to be like this
Tell me why, why is there something I have missed
Tell me why, why because I don't understand
When so many need somebody
We don't give a helping hand, tell me why
Every day I ask myself
What will I have to do to be a man
Do I have to stand and fight
To prove to everybody who I am
Is that what my life is for
To waste in a world full of war

Why, why do we say we care.

Zhou Jiangtao passed away at only 17 years old. He got bone cancer when he was 13. Four days before the announcement of his death, he asked to donate his organs (器官). “I do know the pain of suffering from disease and the helplessness of having no cure (治愈方法) …I’ve seen so much sadness and regret and want to offer help.”
On the day he ‘‘left’’, two patients who had been waiting for cornea transplants (角膜移植) were told they would get donations. Zhou’s body was moved to Zhejieng University School of Medicine on the same day.
It has been 12 years since China started a national pilot (试点) programme for human organ donation. According to the China Organ Donation Administrative Center, about 300,000 people across China are waiting for life-sustaining (维持生命的) organ transplants, but only 20, 000 receive transplants each year.
In recent years, organ donation and transplantation have gotten more public support in China. As of April 2, more than 4. 62 million people had signed up (登记) for organ donation, said the center. As many as 75 people can benefit from a single donor (捐献者). There’s no age limit to donation, while people under 18 need a guardian’s consent (监护人同意).
In China, there are some deeply rooted traditions about the bodies of dead people. For example, many believe the body is a gift from one’s parents. So, they think dead bodies must be kept complete.
But many others have changed their beliefs. Donating organs is a way to help others and extend (延展) the meaning of one’s life. Increased willingness has been seen among young and
middle-aged people, noted People’s Daily. “Dedication (奉献) makes life more precious (宝贵的) than oneself,” Zhou once said.

I am Tony. I am happy to tell you my school and my life. Every day my father drives (开车) me to school. It takes us half an hour to go to school. My school is big and beautiful. I like my school very much. The desks and chairs are new. There are lots of pictures on the walls. You can also see some flowers on the teachers’ desk. We clean the classroom every day.
I don’t go to school on Saturday and Sunday, but I don’t get up late. I get up at six on Saturday. I play basketball with my father in the park near my home for twenty minutes. Then I eat my breakfast. I help my mother water the trees and flowers in the garden. At eight, I begin to do my homework. My parents and I have lunch in the KFC. In the afternoon, I have Art lessons. I chat with my friends on the Internet in the evening.

Most tourists don’t go to Candeal, a small city in the east of Brazil. But if they’re interested in music, they will go there.
Carlinhos Brown was born here in 1962. He arrived on the Brazilian pop scene in 1982 and in the 1990s he became widely known as the leader of the musical group Timbalada. There were more than 100 members in this group, and most of them were young kids from Candeal. They recorded eight albums (专辑) and toured many countries around the world.
In the 1980s and 1990s, Candeal was a very poor area, and Carlinhos wanted to do something for the kids. So he opened the Pracatum Music School. On a classroom wall he painted, “This is the school of my dreams”, to encourage the students.
Hundreds of young people between five and twelve have learnt to play music there. They start by playing music on bottles and boxes. Then they go on to other instruments. Many of them have become very successful musicians.
The school has been training young musicians from the area since 1994—and it’s been doing it for free. “My musical work started here as a student with Mr. Brown,” said Jair Rezende. “I lost both my parents as a boy and Carlinhos helped me a lot. He is like a second father to me.”
Jair is a teacher himself and he has been working at the music school for many years. “We have been helping kids to stay away from danger and to get good marks at school,” he said.
For some years now, the school has been working together with government programs, and now there is a big project for improving the neighborhood of Candeal. People believe the Pracatum Music School has magic and they love it.

I can fly!
My name is Janet. I am an old student of Magic Island School. I first came here ten years ago. My first teacher was Mr Whiz.
I joined the school’s Flying Club soon after I came here. In the Flying Club, I learnt to fly in the air like a bird. I loved flying above the clouds. It felt amazing. The first time I went up, I saw many houses and trees below. I spent hours flying above the city. I liked to watch the people as they went about their lives. They looked so small to me. It was wonderful, but sometimes it was a bit dangerous. One day, I hit my head on a big tree and fell into a river. I got very wet!
I am now a teacher in the Flying Club. Come and join us! You will enjoy it!
