To most Americans，pumpkin pie（南瓜派）is a wonderful dish. If you want to enjoy the Thanksgiving Day，you must have it.

For me，however，the smell of pumpkin pie baking in the oven brings other special feelings. My father was in the army，so I often moved houses as a child. Before I could go to school or make friends in one town，we had to leave again.

There were so few things around me to give a feeling of home. When I was young，I did not know the difference—1 thought moving was usual. When I was a little older，I learned that most people have a hometown，but I didn't. Pumpkin pie was the one thing that was always there. That's why I like it so much. Another reason I like it is because I was born on October 31. It was Halloween. Every time my birthday came around，my father made a large pumpkin lantern for me. Campbell Remess is a teenager from Australia. He makes teddy bears for sick children for several years.

The story began in 2013 when Campbell was nine years old. He wanted to give gifts to children in hospitals. But he didn’t have enough money. The little boy didn’t give up. He decided to make their presents by himself.

Campbell made his first teddy bear in his bedroom. It was hard for him. He learned from the Internet by watching videos. It took him five hours to finish his first teddy bear. He can now make a teddy bear in an hour. He also started a project called “Project 365 by Camp-bell”. He tried to make a teddy bear every day.

Young Campbell uses his own money to buy things for making teddy bears. To make more money, he helps his parents with housework. Sometimes, he also sells his teddy bears online to raise money for sick children. Many people give free materials (材料) to him.

Campbell gave away about 1300 teddy bears. He is now busy making this year’s teddy bears. He never thinks of stopping and he will keep putting smiles on people’s faces.

Nick Smith is my owner (主人). He is a middle school student. This morning, Nick lost (遗失) me in the library. Luckily (幸运地), he has a good friend.

Her name is Lisa and she is a nice girl. She wants to help Nick find me. Lisa’s brother works in the Lost and Found (失物招领处) at the school. Lisa calls him and he says I am there now. Then Nick goes to the Lost and Found with Lisa. He finds me there and says thanks to Lisa and her brother.

I am Tony. I am happy to tell you my school and my life. Every day my father drives (开车) me to school. It takes us half an hour to go to school. My school is big and beautiful. I like my school very much. The desks and chairs are new. There are lots of pictures on the walls. You can also see some flowers on the teachers’ desk. We clean the classroom every day.

I don’t go to school on Saturday and Sunday, but I don’t get up late. I get up at six on Saturday. I play basketball with my father in the park near my home for twenty minutes. Most tourists don’t go to Candeal, a small city in the east of Brazil. But if they’re interested in music, they will go there.

Carlinhos Brown was born here in 1962. He arrived on the Brazilian pop scene in 1982 and in the 1990s he became widely known as the leader of the musical group Timbalada. There were more than 100 members in this group, and most of them were young kids from Candeal. They recorded eight albums (专辑) and toured many countries around the world.

In the 1980s and 1990s, Candeal was a very poor area, and Carlinhos wanted to do something for the kids. So he opened the Pracatum Music School. On a classroom wall he painted, “This is the school of my dreams”, to encourage the students.

Hundreds of young people between five and twelve have learnt to play music there. They start by playing music on bottles and boxes. Then they go on to other instruments. Many of them have become very successful musicians.

The school has been training young musicians from the area since 1994—and it’s been doing it for free. “My musical work started here as a student with Mr. Brown,” said Jair Rezende. “I lost both my parents as a boy and Carlinhos helped me a lot. He is like a second father to me.”

Jair is a teacher himself and he has been working at the music school for many years. “We have been helping kids to stay away from danger and to get good marks at school,” he said.

For some years now, the school has been working together with government programs, and now there is a big project for improving the neighborhood of Candeal. People believe the Pracatum Music School has magic and they love it.

I can fly!

My name is Janet. I am an old student of Magic Island School. I first came here ten years ago. My first teacher was Mr Whiz.

I joined the school’s Flying Club soon after I came here. In the Flying Club, I learnt to fly in the air like a bird. I loved flying above the clouds. It felt amazing. The first time I went up, I saw many houses and trees below. I spent hours flying above the city. I liked to watch the people as they went about their lives. They looked so small to me. It was wonderful, but sometimes it was a bit dangerous. One day, I hit my head on a big tree and fell into a river. I got very wet!
