China has completed its BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (卫星导航系统), or BDS, becoming another one in the world with a global (全球的) navigation network, the other three being GPS of the US, GLONASS of Russia and Galileo of the European Union.

As the name suggests, the global navigation satellite system provides navigation and location services 24 hours a day. From what we have known so far, building a good satellite system costs a lot. Why does China have a new one if there is nothing special?

The other three systems have 24 satellites in MEO. Besides the 24 satellites, China’s new global navigation satellite system BeiDon-3 also has three satellites in GEO and three in IGSO. What’s special about these six satellites is that they have a relatively fixed area of activity. This can improve BDS’ accuracy (精准度) in China and the Asia-Pacific region to 5 meters, compared with a 10-meter accuracy in other areas.

BDS has another advantage - the short message service. It allows users to have a two-way communication. In areas not covered by communication signals (信号), BDS can make the short message service available in uninhabited areas, such as deserts, forests, mountainous and polar areas. With this service, users who are in danger can tell the rescue team (救援队) their location and condition.

In fact, BDS is also good business. According to the official report, China’s satellite industry has kept a 20% annual growth since 2012. And BDS contributes (贡献) about 80% of it. BDS has also created countless high-paying jobs. And with continuous improvement, it will have much more to offer in the future.

D.It doesn’t work in areas where there is no communication signal.

文章大意:本文主要介绍了现在越来越多的人利用ChatGPT创作书籍,而这些由人工智能创作的书籍不断涌入市场,引起了一些人对作家生存的担忧。

【推荐1】A growing number of people are using ChatGPT, an AI program, to create books for sale.

Until recently, Brett Schickler never imagined he could be a writer. But after learning about ChatGPT, Schickler decided that he had a good chance. “The idea of writing a book finally seemed possible,” said Schickler, a postman in New York. “I thought I could do this.”

Using the AI program, Schickler created a 30-page picture book in a few hours. He offered it for sale in January through Amazon. “The book has made me less than $100,” he said. While that may not sound like much, it is enough to make him want to create other books using ChatGPT. Like Schickler, Kamil Bane told his wife that he could make a book in less than one day. “It was actually really simple,” he said. “I was surprised at how fast it went from an idea to publishing (出版).”

However, Mark Dawson, a famous writer, was quick to call ChatGPT-aided novels “dull”, which means not interesting. He said, “If a book gets bad reviews because the writing is dull, then it’s quickly going to the bottom.”

Mary Rasenberger is a member of a writer’s group. She said, “This is something we really need to think about. These books will pour into the market and a lot of writers are going to be out of work.”

In the search for clean, renewable(可再生的)energy, wind power might be the perfect choice. People have been using the power of the wind for centuries. Since ancient times, wind power has been used to move ships, grind grain(碾谷)and so on. Around the end of the 19th century, the invention of the wind turbine(涡轮机)made it possible to use wind to produce electricity.

The first advantage of wind power is that it is a renewable resource(能源). No matter how much wind we use to produce electricity, it will never run out. Secondly, wind power is a clean resource of energy, meaning it produces electricity without harmful emissions(排放物). Thirdly, although wind turbines can be very tall, each uses only a small piece of land. This means that the land below can still be used.

Yet, wind energy has some disadvantages. One of the disadvantages is that the large spinning blades(螺旋桨叶)of the wind turbines can be dangerous to birds. The second is that the turbines also create noise pollution. The sound may make the people nearby uncomfortable. The third, wind can not provide a constant supply(供应)of energy. Even the windiest places on earth are sometimes peaceful. Without a strong wind, wind turbines are not able to produce electricity. That means wind power isn't suitable as the only resource of electricity.

Although wind energy has certain disadvantages, there is no reason why we should give up this renewable and clean resource of energy. Wind energy certainly is one of the bright hopes of our future.

1. When did people start to use wind to produce electricity?
A.Several centuries ago.B.At the beginning of the 19th century
C.In the mid-19century.D.At the end of the 19th century
2. How many advantages are mentioned in this passage?
A.TwoB.ThreeC.Five.D.Six.
3. What's the main idea of the third paragraph(段)?
A.The advantages of wind energy.B.The disadvantages of wind energy.
C.The history of wind energyD.The development of wind energy.
4. The underlined word "constant" means_____________ in Chinese.
A.连续的B.短暂的C.无害的D.一次性的
