There are many unusual customs around the world. If you travel there, it’s important for you to know about them.
Greece
If children are changing their teeth, instead of saving their teeth and placing them under a pillow (枕头) for the tooth fairy (仙子) to collect, Greek children’s teeth are thrown to the roof of their homes. This unusual tradition is thought to bring good luck for the family, as well as a healthy tooth for the child!
China
When dining with locals and traveling in cities, it’s important to give out gifts as a way of saying thank you. But remember to avoid giving them the following gifts: clocks, handkerchiefs (手帕) , shoes and anything white or black. It may seem like a good way of saying thank you for their lovely treat, but they are each strongly connected with death and funerals. A proper gift to pass on to show your thanks is delicious sweets or fresh tea.
Thailand
This is probably one of the most unusual customs to look out for, but it’s also a lot of fun—especially for your kids! Every November, in the town of Lop Buri, the locals lay out fresh fruit, cakes and candies on top of tables that line the streets. But these mouth—watering treats aren’t for the people, they’re for the native Macaque monkeys to enjoy. This strange but wonderful celebration is called the Monkey Buffet Festival, and is a must—see on a trip to Thailand.

I was once invited to a special meal in China. When I arrived at the meal. I was happy to eat everything that was given to me. I did not want to be rude. I ate a meat dish that tasted rather strange, but I still wolfed(狼吞虎咽地吃)it all down. After the meal to my great surprise. I was told that I had eaten a dog. In European countries, it is a very strange idea to eat a dog. My Chinese friends explained that the dog meat is very useful for warming the body during winter and is often eaten in the north of China.
In England we call dogs “man’s best friend”. It would be against the law to eat a dog in England. In China, it is a big shock when we hear of people eating dogs, or, as I did, end up eating them ourselves.

What are the hopes of teenagers?
We received several different answers to the question: What would you like to do after finishing your education? It seems that some students would like to start work as soon as possible, so that they can help provide better lives for their families. Other students hope to continue studying. Although money is important, most teenagers said they want to do jobs they enjoy. According to the survey, the most popular choice of job is computer programming.
What are the dreams of teenagers?
Teenagers have all kinds of dreams. Some are more realistic(现实的) than others. For example, many students said they would like to be volunteers if Beijing could hold the World Cup, maybe working as translators or tour guides. And quite a few said they dream of going to the moon one day. According to the survey, less realistic dreams are also common, but many students reported that they were willing to work hard to achieve their dreams. Quite a few dream of becoming famous, perhaps famous sports people or singers. Some said they'd like to go on exciting trips. One student said she'd love to sail across the Pacific Ocean. And then there are dreams that are impossible. Three students said they'd like to be able to fly!
