There are many places to see lovely pandas in China. But where is the best place to go for a special trip? When is the best time to go?

The best place to see pandas is in Chengdu. Visitors can also look after pandas as volunteers (志愿者). If you just want to see pandas, we advise you to go to Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research Base (基地). You can see pandas at different ages, from the oldest to the newborns (新生儿). This base is big but usually crowded. If you want to experience more, you can be a volunteer at Dujiangyan Panda Base for a day or longer in Wolong Panda Center and Ya’an Bifengxia Panda Base.

Pandas don’t hibernate, so you can visit them even in winter. Spring (春天) and autumn are the best times to see pandas, because they are the most active (活跃) and the temperatures are the most comfortable at that time. If you visit between August and November, you will probably see lovely panda babies. Pandas spend almost half their days sleeping. If you want to see them walking or climbing, it’s important to know their bedtime. They usually sleep from around 10:00 am to around 2:00 pm. We advise you to get to a panda base as early as possible (8:00 to 10:00 am is the best), because it is less-crowed and the pandas are most active.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了猎鹰会筑巢的地方,猎鹰如何育儿以及人们保护猎鹰的措施。

【推荐1】Do you know that the falcon (猎鹰) is among the fastest animals in the world? It can fly at a speed of about 200 miles per hour. You might think a bird that could fly so fast would be safe from most types of danger. Unfortunately, that is not true. By the 1970s, they had already been endangered. Luckily, people begin to protect them. The number of falcons is rising now.

One unusual thing about falcons is that they like to make their nests (巢) in high places. In nature, they often nest on mountain tops and on the sides of cliffs (悬崖). Falcons have also got used to life in cities. They nest on tall buildings and bridges in cities. The height of these nests is from 50 to 200 feet in the air.

They also like to return to the same nesting place every year. Both the mother and father falcons help to raise the babies. The mother stays more time in the nest. The father hunts and brings back food for her and the babies.

Many people all around the country work very hard to help falcons live to adulthood. There are even video cameras fixed up in many places. This way, people can make sure the birds and their eggs stay protected. Falcons are lucky to have so many people who keep an eye on them.

【推荐3】We all know that animals are better at some things than humans, and we can usually explain why animals can do some things better than us. One of the natural abilities many animals have is their homing instinct, which can help them find their homes. These animals such as pigeons(鸽子), bees, frogs and cats are able to find their way home, sometimes making journeys of hundreds of kilometers back home. In our daily life, humans can make use of an animal's homing instinct. Pigeons, for example, have been used to send information or carry letters in times of war. Today some people train their pigeons and take part in pigeon races as a hobby.

There are many interesting stories of the homing instinct at work. In the USA, a cat traveled 1,360 kilometers back to its old home after the owners moved, taking nearly a year over the journey. When we lose our kitten, we usually find her again near the house where she was born. We have a pool in the garden where the frogs come back every year. I even heard a dog which was hurt by a car managed to take itself to the house. There are other wonderful stories about the homing instinct. But how do these animals find their way home?

They can't read maps and, as we know, they can't ask each other for directions. It seems that some animals use their sense of smell to take them back to the place where they were born. Other animals such as birds and bees may use the sun, the stars and the moon to help them find their way. Scientists believe that some animals have special things in their brain which help them to find their way. As for cats, nobody really knows how their homing instinct works and I am sure-cats are never going to tell us their secrets.

1. What does the underlined word "instinct" in Paragraph 1 mean?
A.Animal behaviour.B.Better things.C.Th secret of animals.D.Natural ability.
2. Which of the following is true according to the passage?
A.All the animals can go back home from far-away places.
B.Humans use animals' homing instinct to work for them.
C.Humans have better homing instinct than animals.
D.Scientists know exactly how animals' homing instinct works.
3. What does the passage mainly tell us?
A.How humans are different from animals.B.What special ability some animals have.
C.Why some people like to train animals.D.When some animals can go back home.
