I used to work in a lab for almost 10 years. It was a well-paid job, and a “not exactly exciting but safe job”. Then everything changed until my best friend introduced me to a man who wanted to open up a computer training school. What did he want me to do? Teach! Me? Teach? Is he mad? They knew I had a speech problem. I stuttered (口吃) . For me a simple sentence was going to take longer than it should. “Hello, how are you doing?” can take you 3 seconds, while it would take me 10 seconds. And someone asked me if I wanted to stand in front of strangers and speak about computer technology. Then the most amazing thing happened. I said yes!
To this day I’m still not sure why I said yes. Maybe I didn’t want to live a “safe” life where I did the same thing every day, year after year. I have always felt I know a better way to describe difficult concepts (概念) to listeners than a lot of other people. I’m good at explaining things when I write about it. So I took the class syllabus (教学大纲) and rewrote it MY WAY! I did all I could to make it easier to understand. In my first class I got the familiar funny looks from people when I started speaking. But after 15 minutes, people were asking intelligent questions that showed they understood. At the end of the class when people were leaving, they shook my hand and thanked me. You won’t get that from a “not exactly exciting but safe job”!

the desert,” she thought. As she started, she found herself slowly vanishing(消失)into the sand. After many tries, she still failed. “Maybe I can’t reach the ocean,” she said sadly to herself.
At this time, a deep voice said, “If wind can cross the desert, so can a river.” It was the voice of the desert. But the little stream answered, “That’s because the wind can fly, but I can not.”
“That’s because you can’t give up what you are. Let yourself evaporate(蒸发)into the wind and it can take you across me,” said the desert. “Give up what I am now? No! No!” The little stream could not accept this idea. “The wind can carry the vapor(蒸汽)across the desert and let it leave as rain. The rain will form a river again,” said the desert. “And whether you’re a river or vapor, your nature never changes.” After hearing this, the little stream went into the open arms of the wind. It carried her to the next stage of her life.

“Girls like dolls,” she thought as she stepped into the store.
Looking around, she saw a grandma doll that has gray hair and wears a pair of glasses. In her mind appeared Joyce, her own mother.
When Amy was a little girl, she got her first doll from Joyce for her birthday. Then the second, the third ... the dolls never arrived late, year after year.
“Why always a doll?” This question had been in Amy’s mind until one day her father gave the answer.
Joyce dreamed of having a doll when she was a child herself. Her parents promised one for her fifth birthday. Sadly, they both died in a traffic accident before it arrived. The never-received gift was the most precious (珍贵的) one in her eyes.

Love,

James shook his money box again. Nothing! He carefully counted the coins that lay on the bed. $24. 17 was all that he had. The bicycle he wanted was at least $90! How was he going to get the end of the money?
He knew that his friends all had bicycles. It was hard to hang around with people when you were the only one without wheels. He thought about what he could do. It was no use asking his parents, for he knew they had no money to save.
There was only one way to get money, and that was to earn it. He would have to find a job. But who would hire him and what could he do? He decided to ask Mr. Clay for advice, who usually had opinions on most things.
“Well, you can start right here,” said Mr. Clay. “My windows need cleaning and my car needs washing. ”
That was the beginning of James’ part-time job. For three months he worked every day after finishing his homework. He was amazed by the different kinds of jobs that people found for him to do. He took dogs and babies for walks, cleared out cupboards, and mended books. He lost count of the number of cars he washed and windows he cleaned, but the money increased and he knew that he would soon have enough for the bicycle he was eager to have.
The day finally came when James counted his money and found $94. 32. He wasted no time and went down to the shop to pick up the bicycle he wanted. “Yeah, right,” said Henry and half-heartedly rowed the boat up the river. Henry and Cameron were chosen to be partners, but they certainly weren’t friends. Cameron looked down on Henry and spent his time at summer camp keeping away from him. Henry never followed the rules, and that drove Cameron crazy.
Cameron hated the fact that the boat ride was at least 5 miles long. Just then Cameron felt some small drops of water again on his neck.

“I’m not doing anything!” replied Henry coolly. “If you look up, you will see that Mother Nature is touching you with water.”
Sure enough, when Cameron looked up, he could see light rain coming down. Things got quiet in the boat after that. Before long, the small drops turned into large ones, and thunder and lightning began racing across the sky. Cameron didn’t know what to do. All he remembered was hearing stories about never to be on the water during a lightning storm.

The soil is so rich that our crops seem to grow well by themselves, and even the precious(珍贵的) fire flowers can be found here.
Although life in the valley was good, my grandfather still worried about his people. The mountain and river kept danger out, but they also kept us far away from the world. “We must find a way to reach out to other villages,” Grandfather said, “to trade, exchange stories and make friends. If we do not, Koi will one day disappear.”
One day, grandfather saw a spider(蜘蛛) in his garden. He bent down to look more closely and saw it building a web between two grasses. Suddenly, Grandfather knew what the people of Koi must do.

“If I were a fire flower, I would rather be picked from the earth and loved than left alone and unseen,” Grandfather said. Some of the villagers agreed. After that, the strongest men and women of Koi began to work. Finally, the bridge was finished! My grandfather was the first Koi villager ever to stand on the far bank of the river. When he reached the other side, a stranger came to greet him friendly with a precious ice flower as a gift to share with us.

I used to be a shy boy and I was anxious about taking part in school activities. Once, to make the performance (表演) colourful, I was told to show Chinese kung fu. Though I have learned it since four years ago, I was still worried about it. After all, it was the first time for me to stand on the stage in front of so many teachers and students.
At that moment, I worried that others would laugh at me if I couldn’t do it perfectly. As soon as I stepped on the stage, I found Ms Smith in the crowd, smiling and nodding to me. I became brave and careful. Before the performance, I took a deep breath to relax myself. When the music was played, I imagined I was the best. Then I moved every step smoothly. Hearing the cheers and applause (掌声) from the teachers and students, I knew I made it.
When I finished my show, I ran towards Ms Smith and gave her a big hug. It was Ms Smith that made me realize how strong and excellent I could be. The valuable experience did give me a great lesson. It encouraged me to keep challenging myself to be a better man.
