It was a history class,     1     a Chinese teacher and a chemistry teacher showed up, too. After the history teacher introduced the function of bronze ware (青铜器) in ancient times, the Chinese teacher     2     about the Chinese characters on it. Then the chemistry teacher did an experiment to discover     3     was in the bronze ware.

This kind of class is not     4     for students at Shanghai Luwan Middle School. In 2013, the school began to open interdisciplinary (跨学科的) classes. Teachers in     5     subjects can have a class together. It makes students learn knowledge in different ways. More than 20 interdisciplinary classes have come out.

Work together

Students are excited about this kind of class. “I really look forward to what new ideas our teachers will     6     to us. And they always surprise us,” said Chen Fei, a 15-year-old eighth-grader. Once, she had an ancient poem class about lotus (莲花). Students can choose their favorite     7     to understand the poem, including painting lotus,singing the poem, and learning dances about lotus. “I chose painting and created my own lotus works. I not only fully understood the poem     8     painting, but also mastered (掌握) some painting skills. It was fun,” Chen said.

Last week, we learned about the connective words. Our English teacher gave us a group task. Each group had to make their own sandwiches and describe how     1     make them. We were excited when we heard the news. I hoped to make a beautiful and delicious sandwich. I brought a big bag of bread     2     looked like flowers. My classmates also took a lot     3     things, such as carrots, cream and cheese. We made sandwiches while describing the steps. We used words like “first”,“ then” and “next”.

    4     interesting the class was! We not only had fun,but also learned about connective words.

Our English teacher found an easy way for us to learn grammar. It is also     5     greatest way to learn a language. Do you think so?

Sam usually gets up at seven o’clock and starts his morning lessons at eight. But this morning, when his mum     1     him to get up, he says, “Mum, please let     2     sleep for another fifteen minutes. I didn’t sleep well last night.”

“But it’s seven o’clock now,” says his mum. “I know, Mum. I will not be     3     for school,” Sam says.

So fifteen minutes     4    , Sam gets out of the bed at 7:15 this morning. After having a quick breakfast, he gets his schoolbag from the sofa and runs to school quickly.     5     he gets to school, it is 7:55. “Great! It’s OK for me to get up fifteen     6     late,” Sam thinks.
