In North America, Australia and Europe, there are two or more courses for every meal and people use knives and forks to eat.

In the southern part of China, people eat rice a lot, while in the north people often eat noodles. In the central and western parts, people are far away from the sea, so they don’t eat much seafood. But all Chinese people use chopsticks to eat.

In parts of India, people use their fingers to pick up the food.

In Thailand, people eat with a spoon and a fork and they don’t use knives at all.

In Korea, people use spoons or chopsticks to eat, but it is not polite to use both of them at the same time.

Everyone wants to relax after working or studying for a long time. I have many ways of relaxing myself. Let me tell you some of my favorites.

I am a big sports fan, so the usual way I relax is to watch or play many kinds of sports. My favorite is tennis, but I am interested in all kinds of sports. It is exciting to see team members doing their best or playing very well.

I enjoy listening to music, and I always have some music playing during my free time. I listen to all types, but I enjoy listening to beautiful piano music. Some people can’t study while listening to music, but for me, I believe I can study better by listening to light songs.

Some people choose to relax by traveling. I don’t have a favorite place, but I hear that traveling in Hainan is really enjoyable. I like visiting different kinds of places and eating famous snacks there. I also enjoy sightseeing and seeing how the culture and people change from place to place.

Laba porridge is not the only tasty food in Layue. Laba garlic (腊八蒜) is popular in the north. People begin to soak garlic in vinegar from that day on, and eat it with dumplings during the Chinese New Year. While in the south, people like making sausages.

Another major celebration before the Spring Festival is Xiaonian. It is usually on the 23rd or 24th day of the last lunar month. Traditionally it is an important day when people offer sacrifices to the Kitchen God who looks after the family.
