One day, a young boy named Zhang Liang was walking along a bridge. He saw an old man siting there. One of the old man’s shoes was left under the bridge.

“Go over there and get my shoe, young boy!” the old man ordered. Zhang Liang felt surprised, but he still picked it up for the old man. The old man said, “Five days later, please come to meet me at the bridge early in the morning”.

Five days later, Zhang Liang went there as promised. But the old man came there before him. The old man got angry about his lazy habit.

Zhang Liang was asked to come again. The next day, Zhang Liang arrived earlier than before. But the old man was still before him. The old man became much angrier and asked him to get there again the next morning. This time, Zhang Liang arrived at the bridge late at night. He spent the whole night there. When the old man came the next early morning, he was happy to find Zhang Liang there earlier than him.

The old man nodded with a smile and gave Zhang Liang a valuable book. Zhang Liang read the book carefully day and night and learned many skills from it. Many years later, he became a wise general (将军) and made great achievements.

Do you know the documentary(纪录片)Biodiversity on Earth-Zhuonai Lake? It is very popular, and now people can watch it online.

The documentary is 57 minutes long. It is made by four scientists from Yunnan University and the Kunming Institute of Zoology named Luo Jie, Zhang Zhigang, Wu Jun and Zhang Chenghao. They started working on it in early 2020 and spent 18 months shooting the beautiful scenes and animals activities. After that, they spent another 6 months making the documentary.

Zhuonai Lake is in Qinghai Province. Few people travel to the no-man’s land of the lake, so the area has become a shelter(庇护所)for wildlife(野生动物). It is also an important place for scientific research.

The altitude(海拔)of Zhuonai Lake reaches almost 5,000 meters. So the scientists faced a lot of challenges. Sometimes they had to work the temperatures of -30℃ and below. And they used pressure cookers to make meals.

“Though it is exciting to meet wild animals, we must be careful not to change the animals’ normal life in the area,” Luo Jie said. “Most people may think wolves(狼)are dangerous, but in fact they are scared of humans.”

The documentary tells us many unknown stories about wild animals. The scientists hope more people can do something to protect wild animals.
