Take a look at your parents’ mobile phone. Can you see a small “5G” at the top? Do you know what is it? 5G means “5th generation mobile network (第五代移动通信技术)”.

Each mobile network generation is faster and more powerful (有力的) than the one before it. In 1980s, with 1G, we made phone calls for the first time. Around ten years later, 2G let us send messages. Then in 2000s, using the Internet, listening to music and sending emails appeared in people’s life for 3G. Later, we could watch films and even buy things in 2010s with 4G. To our surprise, 5G is coming now. What’s special about 5G?

Do you have online classes at home? With 5G, you can have classes outside your home. The class can go as well as the ones you have at home. Students from poor areas (地区) can have the chance to study just like you do.

In some movies, you might see cars that can drive by themselves—you tell them where you want to go, and they take you there as fast as possible. With 5G, cars like this may appear in our life. It makes self-driving cars safer. These cars can send messages to each other. They can also “talk” to traffic lights. 5G will make cars move even faster than human drivers.

5G networks are about 100 times faster than 4G. This means you can download (下载) a movie in seconds using 5G, and makes your video calls clearer. What’s more, VR games will become more popular with 5G. It will make the games feel even more real.

All in all, 5G will change the way people live and make our life more comfortable and convenient (方便的) than ever before. You won’t have to wait too long to enjoy it. Now you can buy a new mobile phone to use 5G networks. 5G phone cost 8,000 yuan right now. But experts say that about one and a half years later, the price could go down to around 2,000 yuan. Why not try 5G?

Former truck driver Chen Xianjun played a final chord(和弦) on the guitar as he and his band-mates—a salesperson, a farmer, and two doctors—enjoy themselves in the music. Behind them was the photo of a foreigner wearing a warm smile and hugging his guitar. It was 27-years-old Philip Hancock, an Australian teaching English in Chongqing.

Hancock died in May 2018 in Chongqing because of diabetes. His parents obeyed his wish to donate his organs. Hancock’s liver and kidneys save the lives of three people in the band. And his corneas helped the other two, including Chen see the world again.

“Last year, Red cross officials suggested we form a band in memory of Hancock. They said Hancock loved music and dreamed of having his own band one day,” Chen said, “I’m more than fortunate to be able to do this.”

Over the past year, the five “musicians” have learned different instruments in the studio.

The Band for One, a fitting name for the group, finally came to Hangzhou on Nov.7 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the implementation(实施) of voluntary organ donations in China.

“I was nervous before stepping on the stage, but I think we did a great job," Chen said. ” All of us now have the ability to carry on with our lives, and I believe that’s exactly what Hancock wanted for us.”

When the "energy" reaches a certain level (程度), some organizations and companies will plant a real tree in a desert area of China. And now it seems that the country's efforts as a whole to make a greener world have paid off.

According to a study by NASA, China and India are the main reasons for making the Earth greener over the past twenty years. The study has found that since 2000 the Earth's green leaf area has increased by 5 percent, or over 5 million square kilometers. The increased green leaf area is as large as that of the Amazon rainforest. It is mainly the result of big trees-planting programs in China and intensive agriculture (集约型农业) in both countries, according to NASA. China and India take up one third of the increased greening, but is only 9 percent of the planet's land area covered in vegetation.

China played the most important role in the increase of the green land, adding 25 percent to this increase, while India added 6.8 percent. Over the past years, China has made great efforts to green the land. In 1978, China began a nation-wide forestation project–the Three North Shelterbelt Forest Program, also known as the" Great Green Wall". The program has seen many trees planted in 13 provinces and autonomous regions such as Tibet and Inner Mongolia in northern China to act as windbreak. By the end of 2017, the forest coverage rate among the areas of the project had reached 13.57 percent, compared to 5.05 percent 40 years ago.

Because of China's success in dealing with desertification (沙漠化), the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) believes the country is a good example for others to follow. China is one of the most successful countries in greening the desert and has lessons to share with the world.

【推荐3】We all know that animals are better at some things than humans, and we can usually explain why animals can do some things better than us. One of the natural abilities many animals have is their homing instinct, which can help them find their homes. These animals such as pigeons(鸽子), bees, frogs and cats are able to find their way home, sometimes making journeys of hundreds of kilometers back home. In our daily life, humans can make use of an animal's homing instinct. Pigeons, for example, have been used to send information or carry letters in times of war. Today some people train their pigeons and take part in pigeon races as a hobby.

There are many interesting stories of the homing instinct at work. In the USA, a cat traveled 1,360 kilometers back to its old home after the owners moved, taking nearly a year over the journey. When we lose our kitten, we usually find her again near the house where she was born. We have a pool in the garden where the frogs come back every year. I even heard a dog which was hurt by a car managed to take itself to the house. There are other wonderful stories about the homing instinct. But how do these animals find their way home?

They can't read maps and, as we know, they can't ask each other for directions. It seems that some animals use their sense of smell to take them back to the place where they were born. Other animals such as birds and bees may use the sun, the stars and the moon to help them find their way. Scientists believe that some animals have special things in their brain which help them to find their way. As for cats, nobody really knows how their homing instinct works and I am sure-cats are never going to tell us their secrets.

1. What does the underlined word "instinct" in Paragraph 1 mean?
A.Animal behaviour.B.Better things.C.Th secret of animals.D.Natural ability.
2. Which of the following is true according to the passage?
A.All the animals can go back home from far-away places.
B.Humans use animals' homing instinct to work for them.
C.Humans have better homing instinct than animals.
D.Scientists know exactly how animals' homing instinct works.
3. What does the passage mainly tell us?
A.How humans are different from animals.B.What special ability some animals have.
C.Why some people like to train animals.D.When some animals can go back home.
