Dear Mr Henshaw, Sunny
I keep a diary because you tell me it is good to practice writing every day. You are right! It really helps me with my writing but sometimes I don’t want to do that. I just want to watch TV. You know what? The TV in my home can’t work but my mum doesn’t plan to have it repaired (修理). She thinks watching TV is bad for me. That’s why sometimes I get angry with her.
Well, let me tell you a happy thing. You know I like reading in the library on Friday afternoon and borrow some books. Today the school librarian (图书管理员) stops me when I'm leaving the library. She says,“Leigh Botts, please wait. I have something for you.” Then she gives me your new book Beggar Bears and says, “You are so lucky to be the first to read it in our school.” I feel very surprised (吃惊的). She goes on, “You always read books in the library on Friday afternoon, and always borrow the books by Mr Henshaw. So I guess you like him a lot.” I’m so happy because I know Mr Fridley (a cleaner) isn’t the only one who knows me in the new school. Now I am on page14 of Beggar Bears. It is a good book.
Yours,
Leigh Botts

He asked his mother to help him shorten the pants. His mother said she could not do it as she was not feeling well.So the man asked his wife .His wife said she was very tired that night, so she could not help him. Then the man asked his daughter. His daughter apologized for not able to do it because she had agreed to go dancing with her boyfriend.
"Ah well!" The man decided to wear his old trousers to the reunion.
Later that night, his mother thought to herself, "My son has been very nice to me.I’ll just help him before going to bed." So she shortened the pants by 10cm.
Then his wife thought," My husband knows I am always busy and seldom ask me to help him." So she shortened the man’s pants by another 10cm.
His daughter came home from dancing, and thought, "Daddy loves me very much. And he is such a cool daddy, allowing me to go out with my boyfriend.I would help him to shorten his pants." So she shortened her daddy’s pants yet another 10cm.
The next day, three ladies told the man that his pants were shortened. He tried them on and found that his pants had become shorter by 30cm!
He laughed heartily, and said, "I must wear this pair of pants to show my schoolmates that my mum, my wife and my daughter are such loving people." At the dinner, his old classmates were very envious of his loving family.
What would you do if it happened to you? Laugh out loud or start yelling?
Many of us have "High EQ" when dealing with the outsiders, "Low EQ" when dealing with our own family members!
Please be more patient with your families! Destiny is lucky enough to find the people who love you so much and bear everything of you.

After I was certain that the man was just giving away the ice cream, I talked with him for a long time. He told me that his dream had always been to travel around giving away ice cream, and that's what he was now doing. With his mother's support, he kept doing what he loved even during hard times. Now, however, some large companies are helping him his plan.
The man said he wanted to encourage people to do exactly what their heart told them to do with their lives. I kept asking him, "So your dream was just to drive around and give away ice cream? It seems like a very unusual goal." "Yes, just meeting people and making them smile," he replied. At that point he handed me my ice cream. I thanked him, but what I got from him was much more than just an ice cream. It can't easily be explained in words. I believe what he is doing is exactly what a great person does all the time: small acts of big love.

The book tells us that when facing changes in our life, like a new school or new friends, don’t be afraid of this change. Instead, use it to lead a better life.
The book gives an example of a change at school. A school is changing from having two terms to three terms because there are too many students. Several teens are talking about this. Most of them are unhappy and worried. But Chris is not. He laughs and tells a story about two mice. two dwarves(小矮人)and some cheese.
The four are in a maze(迷宫)looking for cheese. Here, cheese means something important in life. But they find the cheese has gone. The mice realize that they can’t change what has happened and have to find more cheese. This means finding different dreams. But one of the dwarves can’t do this. He is afraid of changes, so he finds no cheese and is unhappy all the time.

One day, while our cab(出租马车) was waiting outside a park, a dirty old cab drove up beside us. The horse was an old chestnut(栗色马). Suddenly she looked at me and said, “Black Beauty, is that you?”
It was Ginger! But how different she was! She was thin, and tired from too much hard work. She looked miserable(悲惨的) and she had a bad cough. She told me her sad story. She had a year’s rest and then a gentleman bought her. For a while she got on very well. Then one day after a long gallop(疾驰) her old problem returned, and her back hurt again. They bought and sold her several times after that.
“Then at last,” she said, “a man who has a lot of cabs and horses bought me. I work hard, all week, with no rest on Sundays. I wish I was dead.”
I was very sad to hear this. I put my nose up to Ginger’s, but I didn’t know what to say to her. She said, “Black Beauty, you are my only friend.”
Just then her driver came back, and they drove off. I felt very sad indeed to see Ginger like this.
A short time after this I saw a cart with a dead horse in it. It was a chestnut horse with a long, thin neck. I think it was Ginger. I hope so, for then all her problems were over.
One day a lady got into the cab. “Jeremiah Barker,” she said, “Is that you? How are Polly and the children?”
I listened to Jerry’s answer and found Mrs Fowler was a lady Polly once worked for. She asked Jerry:
“How do you find the cab work in winter? I know Polly was worried about you last year.”
“Yes, ma’am, it was a hard winter and I had a bad cough,” he replied.
“Well, Barker,” Mrs Fowler continued, “I know people who want good drivers or grooms. If you stop working on the cabs one day, let me know.”
“Certainly, ma’am,” smiled Jerry. “Thank you,” he said, and he seemed very pleased.

He regarded her as everything to him. Normally, it was hard for rich girls to have good behaviors. But it was not difficult for Sarah.
At the age of seven, her father sent her to a school in London. There, she wore beautiful clothes. She was nice, beautiful, helpful and gentle just like a real princess(公主). Soon, everyone in the school loves her.
But then came bad things. Her father died of a serious disease suddenly. Without her only relative, little Sarah felt very sad. She had to move into a cold, dark and wet house. Her food was cold and bad. What was worse, she was often insulted(辱骂)by others, including the headmaster. In spite of(尽管)these, she still smiled to everyone and never gave up her hope for life. Sarah was confident, brave, helpful and kind-hearted just like before. Later, with the help of her father’s friends, she finally became successful and got happiness again.
I was shocked after I read the book A Little Princess, which was written by an American woman writer named Frances Burnett. Since it came out, the book has moved millions of people. I hope more people will read this book.
