When it’s lunchtime, students from Daping Primary School in Majian Town queue up to get meals from their school’s kitchen and return to the classroom to eat. They will enjoy a free meal made up of one serving of meat, two servings of vegetables and hot rice.
However, 10 years ago, life was difficult for the children there. According to Tie Yanbiao, a father of four children in Xiji county(县), Ningxia, the improvements in students’ lunches are made thanks to a nutrition improvement plan. (营养改善计划) “____A____ the plan was introduced, students needed to prepare their own lunches,” said Tie. His three elder children usually just took food to school in the morning. Thanks to the nutritious lunch subsidized(资助) by the government, Jiaxin, his 7-year-old daughter, can now enjoy better food at school. The plan covered mostly poor areas. In these places, many schools do not have enough money to build dinning rooms.
In rural areas in Guizhou, Qinghai and Gansu, students no longer have to take lunch to school, noted China Daily. More importantly, rural students in China have grown taller and healthier on average over the past ten years, as noted by an evaluation report of the nutrition improvement plan.

Jim Smith is a part of Green Primary School, in New York, USA. For 15 years, he has cleaned the halls of the school. Although he is deaf—he can’t hear, he never complains (抱怨). Instead, he says hello to every child and teacher with a smile. And he even teaches them sign language (手语) sometimes.
Teachers and children love him and call him Mr. Jim at school.
On the day Jim turned 60, the school gave him a very special surprise.
That day, when Jim walked into a classroom, a group of children started to sing “Happy birthday” in sign language. He got excited when he realized what was going on. A few teachers guided the kids through the whole song as Jim watched. A big smile was on his face. “He had his hands over his face. He felt so touched that tears (眼泪) came out from his eyes,” Bonnie Scott, a teacher of the school, said. The children were happy, too. They gave him high fives (举手击掌) in the halls.
The school shared the birthday video online and it was seen hundreds of times in a day. Anna Miller, one organizer of the surprise said, “Jim is fantastic and is always saying how much I put a smile on his face, but today he just surely put smiles on faces all around the world.”

Who can jump the highest at your school? Who has the most skips over a rope? Who’s the fastest at solving a Rubik’s Cube(魔方)? Everyone can be the best at something. Recently, Beijing 101 Middle School held an activity called “Guinness Campus” to help students find their potential(潜力).
“There are all kinds of projects you can take part in and all kinds of records for you to set,” said ninth-grader Liu, “I choose Domino Tower because I have the most confidence in this.”
Students needed to build a tower using dominoes(多米诺骨牌). Who ever built the tallest tower in one minute won. Liu set the record with 33 levels. “At first I didn’t do it well, but after learning from other people and trying over and over again,I found some ways to do it faster,” she said.
“The game requires you to be calm and patient. If you lose your temper(脾气) when the tower falls. you may lose the chance to win.”
Seventh-grader Wang set a record for the longest juggle(颠球) of a soccer ball with one foot.
He did it for 4 minutes and 34 seconds.“I started to play soccer at 5 and have been practicing juggling for three or four years, so I’m confident I can do it well,”said Wang. ”Juggling with only one foot needs good balance and stability(稳定性), which I’m good at. You also need to train hard for sure.”
When asked if he was afraid that someone else would break his record one day, Wang said he was expecting that to happen. “The charm(魅力) of Guinness Campus is that we keep reaching higher goals. If someone breaks my record next year, I’ll be even more encouraged to try harder finding more potential within me.”

Dear Mrs. Green,
I am Jack White’s father. I am writing to you to ask for three-day leave this week. Because we have to deal with some important family matters in Washington D.C. Jack’s grandfather is badly ill in hospital and he hopes we can go to see him. Maybe it will be the last time. We have already told Mr. Johnson, the schoolmaster, about it.
Could you please give Jack some homework to keep up with the class while he is absent? You can contact me on 88763568 if you would like to discuss the homework.
Thanks again for you help. We are very happy with Jack’s progress in study.
Sincerely
Mr. White

This is an open letter. I want to apologize to all the people I have made trouble for over the last year. What I did was wrong. I am so sorry. It was easy to pick on smaller children because I am big for my age. At first, I just want to make sure no one else would give me trouble, so I acted tough(粗暴). But then it seemed so easy to control other people just by using my strength.
I cannot make any excuses for my behavior but I can tell everyone about how I became a bully. I want other bullies to read my letter and realize that they can stop hurting other people too. The first thing you should all know about me is that in my family, all the men are very tough. My dad is a policeman. And my uncles are all fireman or soldiers. They all expect me to act tough as well. It is very hard to show any kindness when all the people who you look up to tell you that being kind is weak. Sometimes I just want to talk to my dad, but he can be quite cold. I love him and I think he loves me. But there is always a distance between us. Perhaps I have not learned how to build a relationship with other people yet, because no one has ever taught me how.
I want to change. And I hope this letter is the second step of my new life. The first step was finding out how many people I had hurt because of my behavior. I only recently found out how badly I was behaving. One day the smallest boy at school was brave enough to tell me that he wasn't scared of me and that he wanted to help me. This is also a letter to him to thank him.
Sincerely
Joshua

To better understand people’s sports and health, scientists decide to do a survey. On October 5th, 10,000 people from different ages around China were asked questions like “How long do you spend on exercise every week?” “What kind of sport do you like best?” and so on. Here is some information about the survey.

The survey also shows that running is becoming the most popular sport because of its convenience(方便) and low cost. “The group aged 36 to 40 spend the least time on exercise because people of this age usually have more pressure and less free time.” One of the scientists said, “However, they must care about their health and spare time for exercise.”
