I have experienced many acts of kindness in my life. But the one that stands out the most was the one that happened at the blacksmith (铁匠) shop in Sturbridge, Massachusetts.
I visited the village that day with my autistic (患自闭症的) son. He had no idea what danger meant and needed me to watch his every move to stop him from running away or heading into a crowded street. He also loved making friends and thinking that everyone was his friend.
Although he looked much older than he really was, he acted much younger, which made it even harder for other people to accept him. People’s look of pity (怜悯) broke my heart. I had started to be scared of taking him out to crowded places. That day, at the village, I had walked around taking my son’s hand, ready to keep him from being hurt by anyone. For some reason, my son wanted to visit the blacksmith building. With great worry, I took him there. As soon as we walked into the shop, he pulled (抽出) his hand out of mine, ran over to the blacksmith, put his arms around the man’s legs, and asked if he would be his friend.
My heart stopped at that moment. I expected that he, like almost everyone else that we had met, would ask him to go away. However, the blacksmith looked him in the eye, and then reached out his hand for my son to shake. He said that he would be glad to be the friend of such a fine young man.
The blacksmith spent the next hour letting my son “help” him. I was surprised at the way that man was always patient (有耐心的), answering my son’s questions and also keeping him safe although he was always moving. The blacksmith not only gave my son a dream-come-true experience, but gifted my son with things more meaningful: Kindness. Acceptance. I will always be grateful to that blacksmith.

Food in Chengdu is hot and spicy(辣). Hot pot is a good example. It’s so popular. There are so many restaurants serving spicy hotpots to people.
Each dish has a special name. Mapo tofu, for example, is named after the person who first made it. This dish is not very spicy, so most people can enjoy it. The spiciest food I’ve had has a funny name—Hot and Spicy Jelly Noodle(伤心凉面). It doesn’t mean you will feel sad when you eat it. It means it is so spicy that it will make you cry.
People in Chengdu also like sweet foods. One of the local dishes is called Sandapao(Glutinous Rice Ball).
Its name scared me at first. I thought it was a kind of weapon(武器). In fact, I only saw three balls made of glutinous rice that were covered with brown sugar. And it always tastes as sweet as honey.
You are what you eat. People in Chengdu are friendly. If you get lost, you can ask the way on the street.
Almost everyone here likes smiling. Their smiles are so sweet that they even make you want to smile at others too.
People in Chengdu like not only spicy foods, but also sweet foods. It’s a fantastic city. I want to visit Chengdu again.
