I am an eighth-grade student who suffers from asthma (患有哮喘). My asthma was so bad that I had to miss a lot of school last year. My parents and doctors were worried about my health and my education (学业). Together they came up with a way to begin reaching out to schools.

Do you know that there is something you can do to provide a safe environment for your students? The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute says that you can take these simple steps to give a safe environment for kids.

• Provide good indoor air condition. The building should be free of dust (尘土).

• No smoking in school or during any school activities.

• Review students’ asthma action plans. The plan should be filled out by the student’s doctor and should list what to do if the student’s asthma gets worse at school. The school nurse should work with the student to help him or her follow the plan during the school day.

• Advise teachers to keep furry pets and other animals out of the classroom.

• Heavy cleaning should be done after school hours every day.

• Instruct all teachers and students about asthma and how to help students who have it stay safe.

If you have missed anything on this list, please take action now. The health of your students depends on (取决于) your actions, and their education does, too!

Sincerely, Guo Xiwang
