What is an ocean like?
Bubbles rise. Before your eyes is a world of color and beauty. There are colorful fish, coral (珊瑚), and other forms of ocean life. Its coral can be millions of years old. Its Earth’s largest environment—the ocean.
An ocean is a large body of salt water. Earth has five oceans that are all connected (连通). They cover more than 166 million square kilometers, or about one-third of the Earth. The Pacific Ocean is the largest. Millions of living things are found in Earth’s oceans. Almost all ocean life forms live in shallow (浅) waters that are 100 meters deep or less. Yet, most of the world’s oceans can be as deep as 1,500 meters or more. The bottom of the ocean is too cold and dark to support much life.
____________
Of all the animals in the ocean, the number of fish is the largest. Ocean animals have their own ways that help them live in their environment.
The ocean is a wild place. Animals live in a changing environment. Some small fish feed on plants, and large fish eat smaller fish. Still larger animals, such as sharks, rule the underwater animal world. So how do animals stay safe in this environment?
Some fish have special tails. Waving their bodies, they can swim quickly along the ocean floor. If a stingray (黄貂鱼) senses danger, in just a few seconds it will cover itself with some sand. Its skin is the same color as the sand. This camouflage is a way that the stingray and some other ocean animals stay safe under water.

Before stamps, people did not pay for the letters they sent, but instead they paid for the letters they got. The first stamp ever made is called Penny Black. It is a British stamp made in 1840 with a picture of Queen Victoria on it.
The earliest stamps didn’t have sticky (黏性的)backs. In the past ,people used paste(糨糊) sometimes, but usually they had to pin (钉住) or sew (缝) stamps onto letters!
Years ago sending letters used to be the most important way to communicate with other people. It seemed that everyone had stamps on hand. Although now fewer people send letters, stamp collecting is still one of the world's most popular hobbies. There are even stamp clubs to help people find new stamps to add to their collections. When people talk to friends online, they may use emojis(表情符号) or memes(表情包) more often than words to show their feelings. Memes are more complex(复杂的) than emojis. They have words on images(图像).
Why do people like using them so much? I think there are a few reasons. With emojis and memes, we are able to show our feelings without typing(打字). It makes us chat more easily. If I want to say “I love you”, I can just send someone a “heart” emoji. Or I can send an “angry face” emoji to say “I'm very upset right now!”
Sometimes it is difficult to show feelings with words, so we can use emojis and memes to help us. For example, when you want to celebrate a victory(胜利), you can use the Success Kid meme. It's a picture of a boy with a clenched fist(紧握的拳头) and a determined(坚定的) face. It's easy to use a picture to show a thought or feeling that everyone knows.

People make elephant tusks into crafts(工艺品) and jewelry and sell them to rich people. But can these priceless body parts grow back? The answer is no. The tusks are gone forever after being removed, Live Science said.
The elephants’ tusks are actually part of their teeth. Elephants use their tusks to protect themselves, lift objects, dig for water and gather food. Nearly all African elephants and most male Asian elephants have these long teeth. About one-third of the tusk is embedded(嵌入) in the animal’s skull(头骨). The tusk has a nerve(神经) running down its center. This makes it similar to human’s teeth. Once you lose a tooth, you will never grow a new one.
But losing the tusk is not what kills them. The way of losing the tusks is what matters. Usually, people get tusks by limited killing, which means killing old and weak elephants. They also take tusks from the elephants that have died naturally. However, some healthy elephants are given some medicine. Then the animal killers cut their faces open and remove the tusks.
Actually, about 27,000 elephants are killed every year. Scientists recently found that some African elephants are born without tusks in order to live. So we’d better not buy anything that is made of tusks.

Do you think England teaches math in the same way as China does? The answer is yes!
In England, we have math lessons very similar to what kids have in China. During each lesson, our teacher teaches us about a new math concept first. Later, we finish a series of exercises to improve our understanding. We have a test once every term to see how much we have learned.
But things were a little different in Year 7. We didn’t do any end-of-year exams. We did something different—a math test to form “sets”. What does set mean? In each class of 26 students, only 30 percent will reach the top set. The other students will be in the medium set. To get into the top set, you need to get high scores on your math exams. With the sets, teachers can focus on a smaller group of students who are good at math. They can pay more attention to them and give them harder questions to do.
I had my math sets exam on May 17. It had two parts, A and B. For part A, we had 40 minutes. It was mainly arithmetic (算术) and questions about numbers. For part B, we had 50 minutes to answer problem-solving questions.
I got into the top set. It is true that the lessons are much harder. But I like it because it makes me more competitive (有竞争力的) .
