What is an ocean like?

Bubbles rise. Before your eyes is a world of color and beauty. There are colorful fish, coral (珊瑚), and other forms of ocean life. Its coral can be millions of years old. Its Earth’s largest environment—the ocean.

An ocean is a large body of salt water. Earth has five oceans that are all connected (连通). They cover more than 166 million square kilometers, or about one-third of the Earth. The Pacific Ocean is the largest. Millions of living things are found in Earth’s oceans. Almost all ocean life forms live in shallow (浅) waters that are 100 meters deep or less. Yet, most of the world’s oceans can be as deep as 1,500 meters or more. The bottom of the ocean is too cold and dark to support much life.

____________

Of all the animals in the ocean, the number of fish is the largest. Ocean animals have their own ways that help them live in their environment.

The ocean is a wild place. Animals live in a changing environment. Some small fish feed on plants, and large fish eat smaller fish. Still larger animals, such as sharks, rule the underwater animal world. So how do animals stay safe in this environment?

Some fish have special tails. Waving their bodies, they can swim quickly along the ocean floor. If a stingray (黄貂鱼) senses danger, in just a few seconds it will cover itself with some sand. Its skin is the same color as the sand. This camouflage is a way that the stingray and some other ocean animals stay safe under water.

When people talk to friends online, they may use emojis(表情符号) or memes(表情包) more often than words to show their feelings. Memes are more complex(复杂的) than emojis. They have words on images(图像).
