People call the Chinese diving (跳水) team a “dream team”. It has been a world-class team since the early 1990s. Its future still seems to be bright these days with Quan Hongchan, a new diving star.
On August 5, 2021, Quan scored perfect 10s in three of her five dives and won the gold medal in Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The 14-year-old girl’s composure made reporters remember her easily. “I was a little nervous, but not very, just a little bit, ” Quan said.
Quan said, “My parents told me not to be nervous, and that it doesn’t matter whether (是否) I get a medal or not and to just be myself.” “Those words really helped me,” Quan added. She planned to eat latiao, a popular Chinese street snack, to celebrate that night.
Quan was born in a rural family in Zhanjiang, Guangdong. She remembered how she felt when she started to learn diving at the age of 7. “It was so much fun and I wanted to win prizes as early as possible to help my seriously sick mother, ” she said.
However, it takes more than just interest for a beginner to turn into a professional (专业运动员) . “If I don’t train for a day or two, I feel scared when I get back on the 10-metre platform. A diver needs to practise every day and try his or her best every day,” she added.

When one villager asked him if it was a joke, the old man answered, “It’s true.” The villager ordered three dumplings. After he finished the third one, the old man smiled and let him leave. Soon, other villagers copied the first villager’s action. They all got the free dumplings.
When the old man “sold” all his dumplings, he left. Then, villagers started talking. Most of them said the old man was silly.
In the following days, the old man kept coming. Each time the old man came, the villagers ate as many free dumplings as they could. One day, a young man came. He asked for one dumpling.
The old man asked, “Why only one?” The young man answered, “You work so hard for no money. I feel bad and want to help you.”
“Aha! I found you,” said the old man. “I’m in charge of (掌管) the mountain. You have the character to be my student.” After that, he took the young man away to help him in charge of the mountain.
The villagers were surprised. Then someone pointed out that the old man’s dumpling pot was full of mud (泥) and mountain rocks. What’s more, they saw that half of their mountain was missing. One day, my friend and I entered a little coffee house and ordered two cups of coffee. While we were waiting, two young men came in and began to order, "Five cups of coffee, please. Two of them for us and three suspended." They paid for their order, took the two and left. I asked my friend "What are those 'suspended' coffees?" Instead of giving me the answer, he told me to wait and see.
Some more people came. Two girls asked for one coffee each, paid and went away. Then came three lawyers who paid for seven coffees-three for themselves and four suspended. While I still wondered what the suspended coffees were, I enjoyed the sunny weather and the beautiful view in front of the coffee house. Suddenly a poor man dressed like a beggar(乞丐)came into the coffee house. He kindly ordered a suspended coffee and sat there to drink it.
At that moment, I knew the meaning of the suspended coffees. It's just people pay the coffee in advance(预先)for someone who can't afford it. The tradition with the suspended coffees started in Italy over one hundred years ago during the Christmas. And now it's spreading to many parts of the world. Meanwhile, I understood suspended coffee is not only a cup of coffee, but also the warmth and love to someone in need.

A.pay for others | B.enjoy the coffee |
C.spread love and warmth | D.order more food |
