You have been familiar with the learning environment in your middle school, and it feels like home. So it is not always easy to say “bye-bye”to middle school. After entering high school, you may face some new challenges. The schoolwork may become more difficult and require greater skills. Most students need support. Teachers and parents may give you a hand.     1     What can you do? Here are some suggestions.

Understand what kind of learners you are. Do you need silence to focus? Then make sure the TV is not on when you are studying.     2     Some students focus better in the morning; others at night. Find the right time so that your efforts will work well.

3     It might be helpful when you get used to making a to-do list of all your schoolwork, and checking each item off when it is completed. Try to divide your work. This will create smaller, more manageable tasks out of the larger ones. Big projects seem less difficult if they are done step by step.

Form good reading habits. Read something every day—the more, the better. It doesn’t matter what you read.     4     Newspapers provide plenty of details and background. In addition, information you get from newspapers is usually official and true.

High school life can be enjoyable. Old friendships might come undone and new ones will develop. Hope you will feel confident and perform well in high school!

A.Learn to be better organized.
B.Middle school life is difficult.
C.Reading newspapers regularly is a good choice.
D.However, you can’t depend on others all the time.

【推荐1】Reading is the key to success in all school subjects. With a bit of creativity, you can help your child enjoy reading more, and encourage him to do more!

Buy or borrow a lot of “fun” books. Choose books that are slightly below his level of reading ability. Don’t forget what your child likes to do when choosing books for him. Don’t comment about the books. Simply leave the books lying on the table where your child is sure to see them. Computer games are not as harmful as most parents usually think them to be. Instead, you should take advantage of your child’s love of computer games to purchase those that require a lot of reading and avoid those that are simply computerized video games.

Buy your child a bedside reading lamp, or a tiny book light. Tell him that from now on, he must be in bed by a specific time (say 8:30) and that he can either sleep or read. Most kids will do anything else rather than go to sleep, so there’s a chance you’ll create a new bedtime reading habit.

Many children will read when they are sitting alone having a snack, or when they have a few minutes of unplanned free time. Put a box of books and magazines near the kitchen table so that reading material is accessible.

Often, once children learn to read independently, parents stop reading to them. This change of routine causes great sadness to a child who has come to love falling asleep as you read. Even a teenager will enjoy being read to if you pick books that interest him. Select books together, and make sure they’re ones you enjoy as well, so your enjoyment will come through as you read to them.

【推荐2】Has the wind ever blow your hat away? Have you ever drop your notebook on a windy day? How many important pages did you lose? Wind is moving air. It can pick up light materials and carry them far away.

Wind is a force of erosion(侵蚀). It can carry away small materials such as dust particles(灰尘微粒)and sand particles from the earth’s surface. However, wind itself does not cause much erosion. Most “wind” erosion is done by particles. Wind is an important natural force of erosion in dry places.

When wind slows down, it drops the materials that it is carrying. When sand is dropped, it builds up and becomes dunes(沙丘). Sand dunes are common in deserts and on beaches. Some dunes can be harmful. They can bury(埋)farms and homes, even whole towns.

Wind carries dust particles higher and farther than it carries sand. Thick deposits of wind —blown dust may also build up. The wind—blown dust is called loess(黄土).

Sometimes people plant grasses and trees to try to stop wind erosion. How does this help? The roots of plants help to hold down soil and other particles found on the ground.
