Presentation (展示) skills are important at school and in other areas of life. Some people don’t like giving presentations because they don’t know what to say or because they get nervous about public speaking. Here’s some advice to help you make presentations easier and more enjoyable. | Get organised The best presentations are well planned and clearly organized. Think about topics (话题) and choose a proper one. In one topic, three or four main ideas will be fine. The beginning of your presentation should be interesting. For example, you can tell a short, funny story to make people laugh.
Use photos or videos Try to use photos or videos. These things make your performance more exciting and help you remember what you’re going to say. However, you shouldn’t use too many. The “star” of your presentation should be you, not your photos or videos. | Practice before your performance You need to practice many times before the “big day’. Practice saying any unusual words. Then write the main ideas on small cards to help you remember. Practice in front of a mirror and time your presentation. Finally, you can record your performance or ask a friend to watch you and then make suggestions for improvements.
Connect with your audience (观众) Always look at the audience when you speak. Stand up straight, but don’t stand still or move around much. Finally, be sure to thank your audience when you finish speaking. It’s a simple but good way to end any presentation. |
1. How can you interest your listeners at the beginning?
A.By listing your ideas. |
B.By telling a funny story. |

D.By saying simple words. |
A.The day you prepare videos. |
B.The day you get some advice. |
C.The day you visit your friends. |
D.The day you make a presentation. |

C.Did the writer invite us to attend a course? |
D.Did the writer ask us to be polite in public? |

Sometimes, you want to add many groups (组) of things together. For example, you have 5 groups of apples. Each group has two apples. You can add 2 five times (次) like this: 2+2+2+2+2=10. But that’s too long. So, you can write that like this: 2×5=10. It’s called multiplication.
Subtraction is taking a number away from another. For example, you have 5 apples. You take away (拿走) 2 apples and give them to your brother. How many apples are left? Now you have 3 apples. 5-2=3. So, the difference of 5 minus 2 is 3.

I’m Lennox from Kentucky, the U.S. A. Here’s the story of my family village.
About seven years ago, my parents built a small house village on our family’s land in the countryside. It is made up of five small houses.
To have a green life, our family chose this kind of housing. These small houses save energy(能源) because smaller spaces are easier to heat and cool. We try to be nice to the environment. For example, we follow the rules of recycling and only produce(生产) one bag of rubbish each week.
I feel very comfortable living in my two-floor house. On the first floor, I have a pink sofa and a brown dresser (梳妆台). I also have an open bookshelf with a TV on it. On the second floor there is a small loft(小阁楼) with my bed in it.
However, I don’t really like the way the inside of my house looks now. So I’m planning to do a makeover of it. First, I’ll get a new cover for my sofa and paint my dresser in another color. Dear Aunt Aggie,
I’m having a problem with my classmate, Rena, at school. The other day I wrote an e-mail to another classmate, Beth, in which I said some things about Rena that perhaps weren’t very nice. Unluckily, when Beth was writing back to me, she accidentally forwarded(无意间转发)the message to Rena! Now Rena is really angry with me and won’t talk to me, and Beth is unhappy as well. She’s said sorry to me a hundred times already, but the harm is done. I feel bad, because I never would have said those things to Rena’s face, but how can I get her to forgive(谅解)me? What should I do?
Joe
