Have you ever heard of leaf painting? It has a history of more than 2,000 years in China.
Ding Li is 27 years old. He comes from Xianning City, Hubei Province. He has spent many years learning leaf art and has opened his own workshop in his hometown.
Ding Li started to learn painting at the age of five. At the of age 12, he began to learn caving (雕刻). When he first found out about leaf painting at the age of thirteen, he fell in love with the art.
Making leaf paintings is quite complicated. First, Ding Li needs to choose fine leaves from mountains in Yunnan. Then, he goes through over 60 steps (步骤) such as cutting and drying. It takes about two to three months to finish all of these steps.
Ding Li has spent one year making the old painting Along the River During the Qingming Festival. He painted it on ten leaves.
Before Ding Li makes each painting, he first learns its history to make his artwork more detailed (详细的). “I want to tell stories through my leaf painting,” he says.
Ding Li’s works are very popular, On October 28, 2018, two of his works won the second prize at an art show between China and Japan.

The Natural History Museum in London holds a yearly competition for the Wildlife Photographer (摄影师) of the year. This year’s competition has attracted (吸引) 49,000 pictures from around the world. Here are some of this year’s best pictures.
Russian photographer Sergey Gorshkov is this year’s grand prize winner for his picture named The Embrace (《拥抱》). It shows a Siberian tiger, an endangered animal, hugging an ancient tree in the Russian Far East. It takes Mr. Gorshkov about 11 months to take the photo using hidden cameras. “It’s a scene like no other,” says a leader of the competition.
The pose by Mogens Trolle from Denmark has won the Animal Portraits prize, and it shows a monkey with a long nose raising his head a little and closing his eyes as if in thought. Found only on Borneo and nearby islands, the monkeys are endangered and known for their big noses.
There is also a competition for people under 18. 13-year-old Liina Heikkinen from Finland has won the Young Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2020 for her picture of a fox. Liina comes from a family of wildlife photographers. She and her dad spent a day watching two adult foxes bring food to their babies. After one parent brought home a goose (鹅), the babies fought over it. The girl followed the one that won and then got her picture.
One of the leaders from the museum says, ‘Through these pictures, we are reminded of the beauty of the natural world and our shared responsibility to protect it.” All of the winning photos can be seen in the Natural History Museum.
