The Chinese ping feng (folding screen) is an ancient invention and traditional Chinese furniture (家具) . Its earliest common use dates from (追溯) the Han Dynasty. The term ping feng means protection from wind. showing its purpose at the very beginning.
As time passes, it has been made into different sizes with colorful paintings. On screens usually appears a dragon. It’s a symbol of light, growth and life-giving water. It also stands for nobility (尊贵) and power. The peacock, a beautiful bird, can be seen on screens, too. It’s a symbol of everlasting (永恒的) life. Beautiful flowers, which mean wealth and good luck, are also chosen as a popular design of the ping feng. All the designs carry people’s beautiful wishes.
Behind the ping feng lies an interesting story. In the past the unmarried daughter of a rich family was not supposed to see or be seen by men except her father, brothers or very close male cousins. When an admirer (追求者) paid a visit, however, she might take a secret look at him from a screen behind which she would be completely hidden. Her father would discuss poems with the young man and ask him to create one. If the daughter and her father were satisfied with the young man’s poem and his look, she might agree to take him as a husband.
Today the ping feng is back in fashion for its beauty and its practical (实际的) use as furniture. Acting as a moving wall or divider, it can be the perfect match for modern sofas and walls, which adds style to them. The ping feng is more than beautiful furniture.

【推荐1】Confucianism (儒家思想) has been followed by Chinese people for more than two thousand years.
To help people understand how to behave towards others, Confucianism teaches the Five Constants (五常). These are ren, yi, li, zhi and xin. They are general virtues (美德) around the world. The most important two are ren and li.
Ren is the feeling of care and love we should have for others. Confucius explained ren could best be understood as loving others. He is famous for teaching people “What you do not want done to yourself, do not do to others”. It is quite similar to what is known in the West as the Golden Rule (treat others as you wish to be treated).
While the meaning of ren is easy to understand, li is a little harder to express. It can be thought of as duty or even respect. Generally, li is the way we should connect with people in our everyday life. In Confucian writings, discussions about li include the proper way to drink tea and how to remember ancestors (祖先). While ren is mostly about our opinions and feelings, li is about how we express our opinions and feelings towards others and towards the world around us.
Perhaps the most well-known Confucian virtue is xiao. This is the duty children have to their parents. Xiao means loving, respecting, obeying and taking care of one’s parents in their old age. In Confucianism, xiao is important for a harmonious (和谐的) society: Without it, the whole world would fall into a mess.

Several festivals throughout Asia celebrate the elephant, but none are quite as colorful as the Painted Elephant Parade in Jaipur, India.
Every year in March, the air is filled with excitement and delicious smells of food are flowing around. The parade is the first event of Holi, an ancient Hindu celebration which marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring.
The parade’s four main colors are red, blue, yellow, and green. With all this joyful color, the painted elephants play an important role in it. While it’s not that easy to paint the elephants. Work clothes, paintbrushes, and water are needed for sure. Painters must be extra careful because their canvas tends to move and has extremely heavy feet. Thus, a soft voice, gentle hands, another person to help, and some tasty snacks for the elephants are also important.
The painters often plan the theme, or designs, for days before they even touch their canvas. Designs are drawn on paper or computers, and then enlarged. Once the artist is ready to paint the elephant, it will be cleaned. The designs are usually outlined in white paint across the elephant before they are filled in with the fancy colors. Hours later, the moving models are dressed with special jewelry. Their noses are painted with gold and decorated with rings. It’s an eye-catching line of color as these huge moving canvases walk down the street.
Gathering alongside the streets, people sing and dance to welcome the colorful elephants, praying for luck and blessing. Hand-made silk umbrellas and the white vencamaran can be seen everywhere, which also express their deepest sincerity. Many tourists come to the parade for the wildest part, that is, sprinkling colorful powder on others no matter if you are strangers. It’s said that the more colorful you are, the luckier you will be. So why not come and try your luck?

In the UK and Ireland, all schoolchildren receive a one-pound book token(购书券), and many children now dress up as their favourite character from fiction!
